turbulent political climate the need for a new left wing party is undeniable the rise of the far right calculatedly stoked by an establishment who see xenophobia as a force that protects their remember the lines spoken between rose and jack in james cameron s epic version of titanic when rose the young woman engaged to a very wealthy man announces that when the ship docks she will be leaving with jack the poor lower deck emigree she has fallen in love with jack happily responds but that s crazy to which rose replies i know it doesn t make any sense that s why i trust it this is a scene about heart over the head and it s something the left need more of the left is full of heart maybe that s why we fail when we over think or apply logic over gut feelings good socialist politics is a marriage of the two corbyn has an appeal that on a superficial level doesn t make sense but that s why we and corbyn should trust it but it s not just about his name or the policies he champions corbyn s lived experience having faced the full force of media bias establishment smears and internal betrayal uniquely qualifies him to lead this new effort at least initially he understands better than anyone the brutal nature of british politics when it comes to those who dare challenge elite power corbyn s insight into the mechanisms of this smear machine will be crucial in building a party that can withstand the inevitable backlash from those who benefit from maintaining the current neoliberal order however corbyn should be reassured that his role as leader of this new party would really just be an interim one his role crucial as it is should be about laying the foundations for a future that doesn t depend solely on him corbyn s role as interim leader means a younger less seasoned leader will be spared becoming the subject of a huge and vicious establishment onslaught before they are fully prepared to face it by stepping in as a unifying figure at the start jeremy can mentor and protect the next generation of leaders who will eventually take over this new left wing party needs to be underpinned by a movement that strives and fights for lasting change wherever that change is needed with corbyn at the helm initially it has the best chance of making an immediate impact galvanising those who have been left behind and ultimately providing voters with a political party that offers them a choice of hope over hate with labour tanking in the polls and a tory reform coalition set to win the next general election this is no longer about choice or personal discomforts it s about necessity as the late great bob crow used to say if you fight you won t always win but if you don t fight you will always lose it s time to fight win or lose socialist positive change for the working class is careering to the right driven by a narcissistic driver high on his own ego and career ambitions he s ejected all the passengers who had a real sense of aspiration for the many not the few or gagged them and locked them in the boot the left hasn t given up however they are too angry and driven to fight injustice for that they have split into different factions yes greens independents worker s party plaid snp etc however in a positive shift away from their notorious reputation as zealous political purists who can never unite this hasn t resulted in them going for each other s jugulars that s not to say it s been all love and harmony the socially conservative left has upset the so called woke left and the independents have had a few disappointingly public and unnecessary spats discussions about which independent is best served to challenge labour in a constituency where more than one has chosen to stand yet it s almost certain neither have the ability to win simply because the tide swinging to labour is too high in this ge for an independent to breakthrough in our current situation where every left winger is marginalised smeared or ignored as an irrelevance by all establishment news sources two or more credible independent socialists amplifying and normalising each other s political views in the same area can only be a good thing fortunately though these fallings out have not been many and the sights of the entire left are still trained almost universally toward the incoming labour government and its hideous leader it s as if the left have finally realised there is a much greater enemy waiting in the wings when starmer s labour does eventually fall and that enemy is farage and reform which is basically the tories only more brazenly nationalist centrism begets facism should be the mantra the left never stop telling themselves over the next 5 or 10 years centrists love facists due to the way facists make them look more like the caring progressives they like to kid themselves they are in contrast socialists make them look like the servants of the establishment that they truly are we have a horrible tendency of holding a sparkling clean mirror up to them rendering them exposed to their own ugliness inside the broadcast media does the complete opposite always filtering the truth with a heavy dose of flatteringly misleading airbrushing with socialists they do the opposite they smear shit over the lens and show that warped view to the public the left understands this dynamic too well by now they know the media is just another arm of the establishment they know it will never give them a fair hearing the green party has far greater democratic representation than reform yet gets a minute fraction of their air time that s why we have to utilise social media door knocking community engagement rallies and activism to be seen and heard the left have developed an air of confidence it never had before honed during the corbyn era the shock ge result of 2017 which the media and starmer studiously ignore gave the left a sense of what s possible when we unite when we have hope and self belief and a platform to speak to the country we know starmer played a major role in the 2019 ge result and we also know the reason the media never put this to him is because both starmer and the media would prefer to blame the result on corbyn and socialism than starmer s toxic people s vote policy which few would now dispute was a clear case of electoral sabotage coming to corbyn jeremy is the standard bearer for the left he never chose this role however it s his regardless sometimes greatness is genuinely thrust upon people even humble people like jeremy which in my opinion is preferential to being led by someone like starmer a pathetic shell of a man trying desperately to seek greatness to compensate for his inadequacies starmer is a danger to us all due to a thirst for power and glory that can never be quenched jeremy on the other hand is driven by a thirst for justice peace and equality his thirst will also never be quenched because he won t see utopia in his lifetime or any of our lifetimes so the need to fight will always be there and we will be fighting right along with him the left generally don t have big egos though there will always be a few exceptions to this rule it means when we lose it hurts but it doesn t hurt us personally it hurts to know it leaves the vulnerable at the mercy of those who either don t care about them or worse would exploit them for their own gains it means life is harder for so many except for the wealthy few and it is the wealthy few who have all the main parties representing them and their interests the conservative party the reform party the liberal democrat party and the labour party they are breathing a big collective sigh of relief at the prospect of a starmer government they tell themselves that that scruffy and really scary corbyn fellow with his disturbing talk of wealth redistribution is now a sad old has been trying to cling onto his seat in a labour landslide general election and if he loses as polls suggest he might well that s that threat over once and for all but that s where they are wrong as i said earlier the left are not driven by ego and jeremy has even less ego than most of course he wants to win his seat and maintain his position in parliament as one of the only politicians to hold the entire pro establishment conglomerate to account and thousands of islington north residents want him to win his seat as an independent to keep their wonderful dedicated compassionate constituency mp who has always had their best interests at heart i spoke to many of them myself when i went i got a train up from worthing to go canvassing for jeremy this past monday some told me they love jeremy or said emphatically he s a good man which was heartening to hear after the vile smear campaign waged against jeremy this past 9 years and the broader left wants him to win his seat to be our voice in parliament we will feel hurt and sad and angry if he loses it will feel like another injustice among many other injustices the establishment in its current homogeneous form of media labour and tory mps will crow and say justice has been done corbyn has been officially exiled to the wilderness and to add insult to injury by the people he has represented so devotedly for 41 years oh such glee will be felt in labour headquarters a huge labour majority and the end of corbyn all in one night they did it they won every battle and they d be right they would have won every battle which means we have to win the war we don t get to indulge in surrender when surrendering means children remain in poverty and our sick and elderly are left lying on trollies in hospital corridors instead of getting the care they need and deserve we don t get to indulge in surrender when it means those suffering with mental health problems have to wait years for treatment which they may never live long enough to receive or our young people slip into despair as they go to work every day for years and years but still can t fly the nest or afford to start a family too much rides on us and too many people need us jeremy is our standard bearer and if he loses his seat he along with us needs to keep fighting to win the country a new party must be formed jeremy must head it at least initially and we must all join it and unite behind several core policies that literally none of us can disagree with we cannot afford to indulge in surrender and equally we cannot afford to indulge in division there is a greater enemy than each other if you get the economic and political conditions right and the investment in infrastructure right so that everyone has a secure home every state school is well funded staffed by happy valued teachers no one has to have additional stress added to ill health old age or disability because the nhs and social care are both understaffed and underfunded and no one has to live in fear of the next bill because our utilities have all been nationalised and people now come before profit the rhetoric of even the most charismatic facist will fail to ignite the flames of hate make no mistake we are all living under social conditions that divide people fostering scapegoating and othering people with socialist ideals which you d find is the vast majority of people in the country if you were to scratch the surface are not immune to the negative
