igital albums they are downloading sound like crap and they are not getting their money s worth and perhaps just perhaps a new format will come around that will showcase this new uncompressed digital sound for music like blu ray did for movies and we will enjoy a resurgence in physical copies and in enjoying uncompressed music at least i can always hope for now digital albums do not give me the opportunity to listen to that music uncompressed and there is a greater chance if i lose the files i lost the music for good even backing it up can be unreliable i know somebody who had all their mp3s backed up on an external hard drive they were moving they dropped the external drive in the process the drive broke and all that music was lost for good like i said previously with my cds even if my backed up mp3s get corrupted or lost i still have the original discs it makes me reluctant to throw my hard earned money at these so called christmas albums available only for download because i am not getting the full audio experience i would from a physical copy even if i choose to rip the songs from that physical copy to mp3 at least i can still enjoy the full audio fidelity of those songs when i want to is it ironic that i would be commenting on the lack of sound quality in mp3s on a mp3 blog perhaps so but my hope is that my mp3s inspire you to go out and purchase the music featured here and listen to it uncompressed i am honored and humbled to see some new numbers on my followers list i promise to be back soon with more christmas music i know i said that before but this time i mean it now i got all this out of my system it s time to get back to the music and i hope what i have to say about digital downloads hits home with some of you i know there are people who read this greatly exaggerated wait there were rumors of what on december 5th i attended the christmas open house at wayside waifs and on december 6th i developed a bit of a runny nose and a small cough that i chalked up to an allergy reaction of some sort on the 7th i woke up with a full blown cold flu whatever it is that made me the sickest i ve been in oh at least the past 15 16 years no joke so that s why you haven t seen much of me or heard much from me and for that i truly apologize i am still recovering but at least i feel a bit better every day this is some kind of insidious cold that refuses to improve with rest and liquids and medication it s a tenacious sort that gets a hold of your body and forces you to suffer until it s done ravaging you suffice to say it s not just this blog that has suffered i missed time from work and shoot i haven t even been able to buy any christmas music this year let alone down load any new tracks shoot but i would like to share with you a collection of some of my favorite songs that i ve compiled over the past year i intended to post more than this of course but this is really the first time i could make it on here in a while i tried monday i really did and i could barely stay awake i was so sick 01 august darnell christmas on riverside drive a nice upbeat tune to start things off this is from the ze christmas record 02 triffids save what you can from the album calenture the triffids were always a favorite of mine and this was the first album i heard from them and while not exactly the most overtly christmas song of the bunch though it does mention christmas cheer it does lead quite well into the next track 03 prefab sprout earth the story so far prefab sprout rose to fame around the same time as the triffids did this track comes from their 2009 release let s change the world 04 super fuffy animals gift that keeps giving from hey venus 05 adam and darcie with wondering awe found online last year at the village ten collective 06 april march last train to christmas i liked the sound of track 5 and it seemed to compliment well the sound of this track april march s music is often a bit of a challenge to find at reasonable prices but always worth it if you do your digging at the right time this comes from april march and los cincos 07 milagro saints the sounds of creation choir band child of peace and this comes from the first one thing that is more frightening than halloween it has to be christmas strangers all around dressed in santa costumes wanting to talk to your children and have them sit on their laps any other time of the year the thought of this kind of thing going on would be the cause for amber alerts and stranger danger reports not to mention santa knowing all your movements he knows if your kids have been good or naughty i think they put people like that on trial and put them behind bars or make them live in tents outside the city at the very least so on this day of costumed people prowling the streets and stories of stranger danger on the news and amber alerts and all that festive stuff that comes with this time of year i present to you yet another selection of christmas tunes that seem to be perfect for the halloween season sorry no podcast this year robin gibb come some christmas eve or halloween ooooohhhhh that was a spoooooooooky one little boys and girls i will give you a few minutes if you need to go change your pants before opening the next file scary stuff coffin caddies halloween on xmas granted this is about halloween on december 25 not the other way around but this is certainly a good fun tune from last year s new release psychobilly christmas harley poe it s christmas time again the spookiest time of year for little boys and girls a little bit of tim burton feeling here to me anyway this nice ditty comes from a very standard christmas hot buttered elves better be good keeping with the theme from a very lo fi christmas wendyhouse the evil santa klaus now concept of the song this comes from the ze christmas record regina hexaphone christmas moon starting off about as scary as we started ok so these aren t exactly the sounds you are used to hearing around halloween time but this song about celebrating christmas under the moon with vampires is really quite a unique song and what better time of year to share it than now this comes from have a 2009 cyprus avenue christmas ii no folks i have not given up on this blog i sincerely apologize for not living up to this blog s name this year you d think at least one post a month would be easy enough for various reasons that i won t bore you with i just wasn t able to my second job has taken up so much more time this year than it did last year which is a good thing extra money is always good it seems in today s economy you either are out of work or you are working more for the same or less pay yeah it s been a while since a raise for me but at least i am still working and able to work more hours but as a result this blog has suffered i will post next week i d say next week suddenly bleeds over into next month and the month after that and i sit there looking at the calendar dismayed at where the time goes where does the time go well not in reading excuses of a blogger that s for sure you didn t come here for that i will attempt to post more here i am coming into some down time now as hours are cut at my second job but i suspect once the holidays kick in i will be working more it should make things a bit hard keeping up on here but i will do my best so onward and upward with the music now that s what you came here for last year i mentioned i had contacted some local djs about playing christmas music on their programs two of the djs agreed to let me submit music to them and are open to new stuff one of those djs is bill shapiro of kcur he hosts a weekly radio program called cyprus avenue and the show started out as an intelligent look at rock and roll music but he plays a wide variety of music mainly older stuff but sometimes some new stuff sneaks it s way in there as a christmas music fan i highly anticipated his annual christmas show the first year i heard it it was ok nothing too out of the ordinary nothing too far off the beaten path and his show certainly digs up some great songs that are off the beaten path on a regular basis so next year i tuned in and it was the exact same play list i looked at the archives of his play lists online and sure enough he s been repeating the same christmas show for quite a while now needless to say i had to rectify that kcur is a public radio station so perhaps not a lot of money is flying around to buy music to play one day out of the year i understand so i decided to intervene and offer my services and choices from my personal collection i made a custom cd complete with jewel case and full color cover for him and another cd of off the beaten path christmas songs that he may or may not play and sent them to him he emailed me back and was very grateful to receive the music he said the producers of his show were wanting him to do a full two hour special this year so i thought i would send him a second collection first the cover art i tried to select songs that would fit in his format the first collection i sent him mainly focused on artists i knew he liked and would be likely to play for this collection i decided to be a bit more adventurous and offer him songs by artists he never played before but would fit in well with his format 01_harley fine same old christmas song this first song i chose because of the message and i felt it really spoke of what is to come on this collection these are not the same old christmas songs i don t know if he d play this song it s a bit off from the style of music he normally plays if that s possible to say on a show where i ve heard everything from the pogues to tom waits to african music and everything else in between but like i said it sets the theme of the collection 02_the fireman dance til we re high this song was a real nice surprise for me i discovered this album earlier in the year and did a double take when this song came up on my mp3 player they may not use the word christmas but this is a christmas song if i ever heard it the fireman if you don t know is perhaps the best band paul mccartney has been involved with since wings and since 1993 arguably a much better song than wonderful christmastime i am sure there will be those who disagree with me what really but i am so glad we got a new christmas song out of paul after all this time and a great song at that 03_the spirit of christmas christmas is my time of year 04_the spirit of christmas will you still believe in me true 1960 s christmas rock pop classics that rarely get heard let alone on the radio i really hope that mr shapiro chooses to play one or both of these...
