since i d last made a posting i ve been busy the farm is up and running i ve raised beef pork lamb and have sold about a thousand eggs my vacation from this page and political crap has been wonderful although as i look back and re read everything i d said and predicted about obama it s sad to see that i was absolutely correct on every point meanwhile the farm is chugging right along like a freight train and my customer base has already outpaced my ability to produce things fast enough grass fed beef grass fed lamb free ranged eggs pastured pork i had no idea that the demand was so high and that so many people are trying to escape from factory feedlot produced meats that clutter the shelves of their supermarkets while the obama regime is busy making common sense illegal and mandating lunacy i out or back ordered for at least a month or in some cases for popular calibers back ordered until june the last time this happened was four years ago when the democrats were wringing their hands and becoming less relevant really it s easy for some bloated dumbass in d c with a full fridge to make that kind of claim let s see how relevant farmers are when that fridge is empty and you ve regulated the price of food to the point where a person with an honest job can t afford to buy it anymore i ll be interested to see how tasty and filling those food stamps are to the parasites browsing empty shelves at the supermarket i say to mr villsack keep running your mouth keep making it harder for family farms to run the gauntlet of your regulations and adding unnecessary costs to the price of food for everyone the result will be more people buying direct from their local farmer and skirting the bullshit and regulations while getting a good deal and a full freezer despite the government s efforts co op food what s that instead of a customer buying a hog for example from a farmer at butchering time the buy it upfront as a piglet and store it on the farm under the care of the farmer they pay the cost of buying feeding and maintaining their pet and the butchering fee while giving the farmer a donation for his time and space the farmer avoids having to play government games since he s never actually owned the animal he just boards it and the customer ends up with a freezer full of pork that is raised to his specifications without all the expense and runaround from farm to butcher to freezer which is the way it should be yeah we re irrelevant as a voting block to the shitbags in d c but we re pretty damned relevant when people are hungry and i ll bet my last dollar that any might piss some folks off a tad bit but stay with me after reading some lefty blogs and news sites geared toward them i read a comment that struck a chord every one of those blogs and the commenter s were singing the same tune that the fiscal cliff as well as the solutions for it not being imposed are all the fault of the gop conservatives in general and of course the racist tea party people my solution the right should just stop trying to inject any sanity at all into the argument since it all falls on the deaf ears of the leftist looters and if obama s plans all come crashing down the moonbats will try and claim it was the gop s or bush s fault that it failed don t vote yea or ney on anything follow obama s example and vote present and wash your hands of any responsibility for the failure and the mess afterwards when it all comes crashing down it will land squarely on the shoulders of obama and the democrats for all to see because the usual tactic of blame shifting will be completely filled my deep freezer up to the gunwales and still have to pick up the rest of the meats from the smoker next thursday all in all for 2 nine month old hogs i have a grand total of 485 lbs of pork for my freezer and one more hog scheduled to be dropped off to the butcher when i pick up my smokehouse goodies it s my first livestock harvest that i ve raised from weanling to butcher to freezer and onto my own plate and the results have been nothing less than satisfying for 485 lbs of pork my investment came out to about 140 in feed 350 in butchering smoking and my own labor in keeping them sheltered with clean surroundings and the 60 i paid for each of them from my neighbor down the road so about 550 total for the both of them the good part i already have a buyer for one whole butchered hog for 500 which pays damned near for raising the both of them which means that my remaining hog that will feed my family through next fall cost me about 50 after 3 is butchered and sold my freezer pork s price drops to zero cost and it will pay for most if not all of the feed cost for the next batch of piggies will i ever get rich no but i ll be eating and feeding my family damned near for free we have all the rabbit we can eat all the pork we can eat all the chicken and eggs we can eat and in the spring all the lamb we can eat add that into all the tomatoes potatoes asparagus strawberries peppers onions and garlic from the garden and the plums apples and pears from the trees we re doing alright food wise not too bad for my first season of owning my own farm
