useless without pictures useless without pictures tuesday may 14 2019 j is for joy fold my j card for the a to z challenge uses the joy fold technique here is a tutorial from splitcoast note there is a typo in the tutorial the supply list includes two 2 3 4 x 4 pieces of cardstock or designer paper optional these are used at step 5 however the cardstock piece you re matting them on is folded down to 3 by 4 so if you use the 2 3 4 x 4 pieces there s no border on two sides those patterned paper cardstock pieces should actually measure 2 3 4 x 3 3 4 the joy fold card is one of my favorite fancy folds to make it isn t very complicated once you ve done a few although i still always have my cheat sheet with measurements and it s a good way to use up extra patterned papers the stamp here is from favorite things tuesday april 16 2019 h is for herringbone continuing along in my year of alphabet themed cards i went with the herringbone technique for my h card here is a tutorial from splitcoast stampers which i did not exactly follow because i was doing the technique from memory i neglected to do the sort of v pattern shown in the tutorial for laying down my strips of paper and neglected to alternate directions on basically the entire left side of the pattern but i think the end result is neat anyway honestly it looks cooler in person one tip the tutorial has you cut your card to size to start i prefer to make my card slightly larger than i want it to be and then when i am finished laying out the strips i trim the whole thing to size with my paper trimmer because i am not good at trimming each little strip straight aside from a little bit of planning to get coordinating papers to cut into strips this is really a very fast card to pull together and it looks super impressive this fancy fold is that the finished card is still 4 25 by 5 5 a2 sized the monkey stamp and sentiment are from sugar pea designs i colored the image in with copic markers and used a pierced circle die to mat the image i ve also popped up the sentiment on the right side just a bit so that the circular image in the center tucks behind it to help keep the card closed posted by emily at 11 25 pm no comments labels a to z gatefold sugar pea designs f is for foil for my f card i opted to use some lovely foil embossed cardstock i ve had for a while even though it s hard to see in the photos the floral outlines are all foil i thought the color scheme was quite springy the sentiment is from verve i believe a stitched rectangle die adds some interest to the focal sentiment plus ribbon and gems and dies from simon says stamp they are retired though sorry i started by diecutting a bunny from a double sided adhesive sheet i lightly traced its outline to use as a guide before stamping the face then i removed one side of the adhesive and adhered it to the panel before erasing the outline i burnished the diecut to make sure all of the adhesive was well attached then i removed the top liner of the adhesive and sprinkled glitter all over i then stamped and colored the sentiment matted everything and added the sequins the magnet was made similarly though i started by diecutting a bunny from white cardstock it was pretty easy to line up with the diecut adhesive piece posted by emily at 11 13 pm no comments labels a to z easter simon says stamp saturday february 23 2019 d is for dryer sheets the year of alphabet themed cards continues for the letter d i opted for the dryer sheet technique here is an official tutorial from splitcoast stampers you will need a used dryer sheet preferably unscented unless you know your recipient doesn t mind the smell take the image you want to use and stamp it i find this works better with an image that isn t too finely detailed color the image trim it down to size or die cut it i used an oval die to cut out my image run the image face down through a xyron machine if you have full sheet adhesive you could cut a piece slightly larger than your cut out trim to size peel off one side of the adhesive backing and adhere to the front of the image yep you want your image covered with adhesive it also needs to be a dry adhesive not liquid burnish your image well to ensure the adhesive is all stuck peel off the protective sheet and apply the dryer sheet to it smooth out as best you can trim away the excess dryer sheet then sprinkle clear glitter over the image rub the glitter in it should be sticking to the little bits of adhesive that remain exposed by the holes in the dryer sheet s weave an unused dryer sheet is too dense and also coated with softener which has a waxy feel here is a close up of a focal image i think this technique works especially well for snowy scenes this stamp is a little stamp from altenew here is the finished card the picture seems a little out of focus i don t think my phone liked the woodgrain paper i ve done this technique once before a long time ago and it turned out a little differently i think the secret is to use a brand name dryer sheet if you can i think the last one i used was either by snuggle or all this one was my grocery store s brand because they were free the brand name one had fibers that seemed to be much more open once the sheet was used the generic one was a little dense and a little fuzzier but it s still a neat technique posted by emily at 9 49 pm no
