house andrew worked hard on this little masterpiece we were a bit behind for this project i bought the very last one at the store getting all of his supplies ready starting to decorate the more bling the better more glue to hold it all together ta da posted by the vehiges at 8 57 pm no comments wednesday december 18 2013 neuromuscular clinic today marks another six months since we last visited andrew s neurologist steve and i were a bit anxious for this appointment because andrew started taking prednisone a steroid since our last visit starting steroids at five years old was a huge decision but one that had to be made to give our little guy the best chance at fighting this fatal disease today will let us know what kind of impact if any the prednisone has made thus far for andrew andrew did great with everything asked of him as usual sitting in these appointments and watching our son just move from one test to another measurement to another timed trial and all the while being passed from one doctor to one fellow to one therapist to one nurse is overwhelming to say the least not only does andrew just go with the flow but he keeps everyone smiling and laughing through it all these appointments are not short in length by any means our experience has been a minimum of 2 5 hours and seems like forever andrew doesn t seem to even notice the amount of time spent at the clinic nor lose interest in whatever is going on he keeps everyone going we did see some increase in the results from all of the testing but nothing to get too excited about overall we are to keep everything the same and continue with our routine we ll take it mda summer camp was discussed since andrew is age eligible camp starts at age 6 he s super excited but i don t think he understands that it s a week away from home and he stays overnight i still don t think i fully get it who sends their little 6 year old to a camp over 2 hours away for a week good thing we really don t have to worry about it for six more months we continue to take one day at a time and pray that andrew continues to make progress or at least maintains the muscle function he has posted by the vehiges at 8 50 pm no comments tuesday december 17 2013 neighbor christmas party several of us ladies in the neighborhood gathered together for a little christmas party this evening my next door neighbor hosted a party last year that ended with an overwhelming amount of support with donations to the boys trust i knew they were doing it again and am humbled by each and everyone s generosity and constant support it was a fantastic evening just us girls enjoying each other s company i never really get a chance to talk for more than a couple minutes at a time with our neighbors because the boys are always on the go it s fun to be able to sit back and relax and actually get through an entire conversation without being interrupted once again our neighbors made generous contributions to the boys trust and we will be forever grateful we continue to work hard to make sure we are providing andrew and nathan everything they need and this is made possible because of all of our amazing family and friends constant support we just can t say thank you enough posted by the vehiges at 8 18 pm no comments monday december 16 2013 kindergarten christmas play this afternoon andrew s kindergarten class performed a play for the entire school and all of their families each child had a speaking part which they had to memorize and they all did fantastic we were really proud of their accomplishment and very impressed by these little 5 and 6 year olds welcoming their audience andrew s debut one of the three wisemen posing for pictures after the play posted by the vehiges at 8 03 pm no comments saturday december 14 2013 bruemer family christmas we went ahead and celebrated christmas early while todd laura and the girls were here the kiddos couldn t believe we were opening presents already it was nice to just sit back and relax and not rush for once sometimes the holidays end up being more stressful trying to fit everything in not this year nathan and daddy super excited for a 100 piece puzzle nathan opening a present andrew was so excited to rip through the paper nathan working on yet another present mary learning how to work her new camera littlest paparazzi around mary was able to capture everything love holding little miss avery happy boy bedtime snack and andrew joining in on a curious george episode didn t take nathan long to join in cousins tickles with daddy posted by the vehiges at 7 49 pm no comments wednesday december 11 2013 the bruemer s are here my brother and his family came in tonight to stay with us through the weekend we are so excited to spend time with them and help them introduce avery ann to the rest of the bruemer clan we are looking forward to just hanging out and having some quality family bonding posted by the vehiges at 3 51 pm no comments monday december 9 2013 tilles park after dinner we went for a ride through tilles park to check out their christmas lights display we all loved seeing the entire park glowing it s always such a sight to see this has become a favorite tradition for our family and tonight we were able to share it with percy and polly andrew s classroom pets snug as a bug with percy and polly some of the lights percy s and polly s favorite of course posted by the vehiges at 3 46 pm no comments thursday december 5 2013 interview with ranken jordan this evening i finished up an interview with ranken jordan to be included in their winter newsletter i was asked to share our story which you would think would get easier the more i told it well sadly it doesn t i am blessed to meet so many amazing people that spend their lives trying to help others lisa is one of these people it took over 2 hours to get through the interview with lots of tears and laughter even though it s not an easy story to tell and we are still adding chapters i want to share our story and help make a difference if we can make it any easier on the next family that is faced with anything we ve been through it s worth it and anything we can do to help give back to each organization that continues to help andrew and nathan we are open i am glad that it s over and can t wait to see the article it s always interesting to see how people print our story after hearing it from us we ll be sure to share it once published posted by the vehiges at 12 28 pm no comments tuesday december 3 2013 review of existing data meeting this morning steve and i headed to pierremont to meet with andrew s team of therapists and school psychologist as well as his kindergarten teacher from christ prince of peace and their learning consultant this meeting is to discuss andrew s progress both in and out of the classroom and to see if further testing is needed to qualify andrew to continue to receive services from special school district at pierremont now that andrew is in kindergarten he is considered school age and requires a new eligibility diagnosis in order to continue to receive services currently andrew receives speech physical and occupational therapies at pierremont andrew spends an hour tuesday and thursday mornings working with his therapists at pierremont before starting his day at cpop there was a significant amount of paperwork completed by all of andrew s team including steve and i that was submitted prior to the meeting for discussion we went through each of these areas and discussed andrew s abilities strengths weaknesses and any concerns anyone had regarding his school day after almost two hours of discussion it was decided that andrew go through additional testing to help determine his school age diagnosis through special school district steve and i were surprised at this conclusion but agreed it will be nice to have a baseline so andrew will go through another evaluation like he doesn t work hard enough as it is already with the school psychologist she is the one that does all of the testing andrew is not that familiar with her which is a concern but it never hurts to have a new set of eyes looking at our little guy we just pray everything goes smoothly and it doesn t bother andrew he usually is eager to try and play new things so hopefully he ll see it as just that time will tell posted by the vehiges at 12 06 pm no comments friday november 29 2013 christmas decorations it s become our tradition to put up all of our christmas decorations thanksgiving weekend while steve and i were cleaning up after thanksgiving dinner andrew took it upon himself to start after the decorating he was able to reach one box which then led to getting the christmas tree up and ready for ornaments i loved his eagerness
