this record changed my mind in 4 decades let s find out shall we album number three and black n blue must be feeling the heat as their first two albums stalled on the charts for whatever reason so they decide to hire mean gene simmons to control the dials on the recording console i remember reading at the time thinking maybe there would be 10 songs like fits like a glove on this record not really ok maybe opening title track nasty nasty which honestly has a great killer chorus and is very kiss revenge like which is ok in my books the rest of the album kinda follows in the kick in the crotch street rock vibe does she or doesn t she i want it all kiss of death 12 o clock high do want you wanna do could have been simmons 80s songs on kiss albums as they have that vibe the one track that is left field is the biggie power kicking ballad i ll be there for you written by jon cain yikes and produced on this record by jon cain double yikes it was released as a single and did zip too bad as i was rooting for bnb but to no avail even though anything that cain touches makes me want to puke in my mouth for the most part this album works as this isn t rocket science but 1986 hard rock these dudes could play and sing jamie st james was a good singer patrick young and pete holmes bass and drums respectively were solid as well jeff warner along with tommy thayer could dial up some good riffage on the six strings when called upon thayer smart guy got to know gene and worked in the kiss organization when bnb went tits up back in the late 80s and a few decades later tommy played the role of the late ace frehley in kiss fast forward to the present and lo and behold i came across a mint copy of nasty nasty in the used bins i figured what the hell and took the plunge i must be losing my mind as i have found an enthusiasm for this record that was missing back in 86 one reason may be due to the fact that there was so much music coming out in that period that if something didn t hook me right away i dismissed it yeah i was a judgy headbanger back then but hey cut me some slack as my dollars could only be spread so far in regards to vinyl magazines cassettes concerts and everything else liked the two albums that came before this one tbone took the plunge on this one and bought it never got into it all tried but the songs just did not do it for me the video for the deke july 12 2026 posted in uncategorized 2 comments on 1002album bolan bolan 2026 well here we are in 2026 and with skid row looking for singer number i ve lost count bassist and co founder of skid row rachel bolan has dropped a solo album i was intrigued as bolan has written some good tunes in the past and amazon had it a decent price for 20 on disc the self titled album leans much more toward punk rock than classic skid row hard rock melodic hooks and a kicking production courtesy of nick raskulinecz who dials it in perfectly the album kicks off with the punchy opener anything but you i have to say that it also helps when the album clocks in with 11 tracks under 36 minutes bolan though does much of the heavy lifting on this record not only singing but playing a lot of guitar and bass as well rachel also enlisted some heavy weights on tracks like at war with myself featuring danko jones jet black universe featuring nuno bettencourt and big stick which has contributions from corey taylor damon johnson is also featured predominantly as well as dave sabo rachel also drops a wicked cover of oasis rock n roll star which features scotti hill from skid row laying down the solo if i m being honest here i would be ok if skid row never did anything again and rachel stuck with his solo gig as bolan is a project at this point i can take more seriously posted by deke june 20 2026 june 20 2026 posted in uncategorized 14 comments on bolan bolan 2026 coney hatch growing up in the early 80s i was an avid reader of music express magazine and when i saw an ad featuring this band from toronto calling themselves coney hatch which had an iconic cover kudos to martin springett and these guys were also opening for judas priest what a mind blower how could i not check out coney right away i became a fan when i flipped over the album cover and saw that the coney guys didn t look that much older than me the fact that they were fellow ontarians also made it seem they could be more of a band i could relate to as fellow acts from ontario most notably rush and triumph were mega stars as much i loved those two acts and still do the hatch became my band through my high school years 81 86 as a fan i would hunt for any articles on them and when the followup 83 s outta hand and 85 s friction were released i bought them right away so it came as a bummer when that same mag that i had discovered coney hatch four years earlier wrote in a blurb that carl dixon had left damn but through various solo band albums that andy and carl put out following the hatches demise i supported the best i could i was pretty psyched when back in 2013 that the four original hatchers were going to release the first new studio record since 1985 titled four steve shelski moved on shortly after and in came sean kelly on guitar and it was as coney didn t skip a beat since 2020 the band has been active in releasing music two double live albums live at the elmo and postcard from germany along with a fantastic double album release of the self titled celebrating its 44th anniversary being a lifelong fan of the band i guess the word conehead could be used here it had been a thrill for me to finally see and meet the band the last two times they rolled through thunder bay 2019 and 2024 but back on may 1st 2026 posted to the official coney hatch page was this statement that you can read below https www officialconeyhatch ca my reaction was disappointing but i get what andy dave and steve are doing if you do you re due diligence which of course i did you can see for yourself the ads for the upcoming german shows it can be very misleading as of today may 14th 2026 both german shows are still listed as carl dixon s coney hatch what s also misleading is another coney hatch facebook page has popped up and has only 86 followers so take that with a grain of salt so like back in 1986 it seems carl has left or maybe he hasn t i have no idea i see a picture on the official hatch page has been posted featuring them as a three piece andy sean and hidden in the back dave i could be way overthinking this which could be the case so now my band has become one of those bands that have to deal with protecting the brand so to speak i would never lay claim to knowing the ins and outs of the music business as i m just a music nut who purchases records cds and attends shows when these acts come to town i m hoping this isn t the end of the road for hatch but if it is thanks for being my band and for putting out some incredible music over the years guys whatever path andy dave sean and steve comments on coney hatch side ii quiet riot metal health 1983 as the 80s progressed l a s quiet riot became a kicking bag amongst the metal crowd as lead singer kevin dubrow took it upon himself to trash in the press fellow bands ratt and motley crue the result was that by 1987 kevin dubrow got left behind in hawaii by the rest of the band and they soldiered on with a replacement singer paul shortino the end result was they put out a record in 88 that sold peanuts but 1983 rolling into 1984 qr was big business as we all snapped up copies of metal health to bang our heads too see what i did there metal health successfully crossed over from the metal selling market to the pop market everyone was buying this record side ii has some killer material that still holds up today kicking off with breathless good driving track with a cool chorus and zip in zip out solo by guitarist carlos cavazo more on him shortly run for cover features frankie banali pounding his drums into submission and such a killer song cavazo drills into my brain another fantastic solo kevin dubrow even though he was a meathead at the time had a great rock voice carlos over the next one minute and 39 seconds tosses down a killer guitar solo that he called battle axe lets think about this for a second randy rhoad s was the original guitar slinger in qr ozzy snapped randy up and they boarded the crazy train to huge success until a plane crash in march 1982 ended rhoad s life tragically carlos i tell ya had a huge set of balls to toss down an actual guitar solo on a studio album the great thing is i have never read or heard anyone ever shit talk carlos he was smart man kept his head down in the trenches and soldiered on let s get crazy kicks off with a huge guitar riff and the crash of a gong good stomping track with a cool chorus thunderbird was the tribute song written by dubrow about his friend randy rhoad s it s a fitting end to this album metal health is still a solid listen today the drums and production are massive and of course side 1 dropped the two biggie tracks that being the title track and cum on feel the noize dubrow and cavazo wrote up a bunch of rock meets pop metal is that such a thing and delivered a sound to the masses condition critical followed metal health in 1984 and the qr ship was starting to take on water as bassist rudy sarzo quit by 1986 the next album qr iii all but slammed into the iceberg head on crazy to think that both dubrow and banali have passed on yet sarzo continues touring around as qr while cavazo plays with the pearcy demartini band ordered from a seller on discogs here are my final six discs lynch mob wicked sensation 1990 fresh from the ashes of dokken george lynch went and assembled a new band and tagging along for the party was x dokken drummer mick brown oni logan was at the mic and has a great rock voice the 12 tracks that make up wicked sensation would have musically perhaps made up the next dokken studio record if blow and ego didn t bust them up in 1988 wicked sensation is the only album i really dug from georges output after dokken but man i tell ya this band stepped up on this record the title track river of love and big power rock balled through these eyes should have put them over the edge but it didn t big sugar brothers sisters are you ready 2001 gordie johnson is one hell of a canuck talent jack white is a huge fan gordie has been steering the the good ship big sugar for well over 30 years now brothers sisters are you ready is such a great rock n reggae n blues record gordie knows how to fuse three different musical genres if curious check out red rover nicotina she s all that butterball and all hell for a basement i just caught gordie and big sugar a week ago here in town the power trio can still blow the doors off any auditorium the man and his band showed up played 2 5 hours while gordie played a good third of the show with 3 different double neck gibson sg s slik toxik doin the nasty 1992 nick walsh is a killer singer and still is to this day back in 92 his band released their major label debut album doin the nasty which had a skid row vibe to it this record went gold here in canada and they had some bad luck at the juno awards here in canada as there bass player from my hometown of course got wasted stole a limo and crashed it after the junos party had ended the fallout was huge as the band lost their deal over it still though this record has a lot of great tracks check out helluvatime white lies black truth and cheap nicotine some good stuff and if snake and rachel from skid row are reading get nick in your band nuno schizophonic 1997 extreme takes a break and nuno takes his six string to and tosses down a killer solo album that is all over the map and at various times is the furtherest thing from more than words and get the funk out nuno basically does it all on this album and if opening track gravity doesn t grab ya i can t help you lol swollen princess has a scorching solo and nuno wrote the best dear john letter ever in the breakup tune titled note on the screen door a friggin great solo album david lee roth a little ain t enough 1991 roth hires bob rock and they put out a huge sounding rock record over time this album has grown on me more and more hammerhead shark is killer as the drums just want to blow your speakers out at the end of the tune some really cool stuff on here lady luck sensible shoes and especially drop in the bucket are lyrically and played brilliantly 1991 was a funny year for dave as this record was his last album to be certified i had tickets to see this tour and the show was scrapped because of low ticket sales van halen at the time i m sure was snickering about that the four horsemen nobody said it was easy 1991 another one from 91 these guys were nasty street rock and they didn t give a shit about anything the big tune from this album was rockin is ma business the horsemen just wanted to booze it up score chicks and fight dudes this is a no frills rock record it s one of those discs you would put on at a house party back in the day to either rile everyone up or drive everyone out the door i love
