oldhammer gobbo s adventures into the known world a blog focused on discussing 1st through 3rd edition warhammer fantasy battle and mordheim skip to content oldhammer gobbo s adventures into the known world a blog focused on discussing 1st through 3rd edition warhammer fantasy battle and mordheim menu search about search for search a blog reborn on january 27 2026 january 28 2026 by vrgr 68 vættrið dweller ov the vargskógi leave a comment greetings and welcome to the relaunched oldhammer gobbo s adventures into the known world blog where i will be discussing 1st through 3rd editions of warhammer fantasy battle and mordheim since this is a new beginning for this blog i want to introduce myself and my journey into the warhammer hobby i will then discuss the initial scope of this blog s upcoming content when i initially launched this blog things have changed on what i wanted for this blog and my journey in this hobby moving forward i am the oldhammer gobbo a wretched scum from the west and i will be your guide for this journey i first got into the warhammer hobby back in the early 90 s when 3rd edition of warhammer fantasy battle was showing up in american stores it was the 3rd edition of this venerable game that hooked me as a geeky young metalhead i bought the 3rd edition core book and the two tome realms of chaos set of supplements the hours i spent pouring over the pages of those books was some of the best times i ve ever spent i also spent the following months collecting figures and even began painting them albeit horribly being the cheeky bastard that i was at the time i was drawn to chaos especially good ol slaanesh i would work on my models while listening to metal music especially albums by sabbat and bolt thrower those were the days eventually i would acquire later more current editions of both warhammer fantasy battle and warhammer 40k including mordheim and necromunda i have to admit i was more into the art and lore than the games themselves as i initially didn t have anyone to play with my younger brother was the one who became the person who played the games and built terrain whereas i was too busy taking care of family members and buying comics music and tabletop rpgs i still collected the rules and read the comics and other fiction and on rare occasion convinced a friend to get into the hobby after decades of on and off love affair with the worlds of the warhammer universes i finally decided to stop supporting current editions and fiction this is still generally the case now though i might buy the occasional kit for use in mordheim as i hope to find people to game with locally in the near future though i love both warhammer fantasy and warhammer 40k i was always more interested in the fantasy side of the warhammer hobby which is where this blog comes in i plan to eventually chronicle the mordheim campaigns that i hope to play in the near future that being said the initial focus will be in discussing the 1st through 3rd editions of warhammer fantasy battle highlighting their similarities and differences as well as discuss how the known world setting developed across those editions as i do this i will be developing my own house ruled skirmish role play rules using the 1e warhammer rules as the base just making the game easier to explain to players in campaigns that i hope to run using both those rules and those from the forces of fantasy expansion plus any info from the citadel compendium and arcane ramblings plus any additional info from white dwarf magazine that i might have the original warhammer this house ruled document and campaigns using it and forces of fantasy expansion will lean heavily in the dark ages default setting the difference is that i will develop my own setting for my campaigns though it ll share some similarities with the official warhammer fantasy setting as i am hewing closely to the setting as presented in both 1e warhammer and forces of fantasy with only minor changes like ignoring the regiments of renown well before this post gets any bloody longer i guess i ll close it and get to publishing and sharing it on social media cheers ya bloody oomie scum the oldhammer gobbo create a free website or blog at wordpress com subscribe subscribed oldhammer gobbo s adventures into the known world sign me up already have a wordpress com account log in now privacy oldhammer gobbo s adventures into the known world subscribe subscribed sign up log in report this content view site in reader manage subscriptions collapse this bar loading comments write a comment email required name required website design a site like this with wordpress com get started
