listing stars is now in e book too great feedback is coming from readers of stars the memoir is so full of episodes that ride the waves of every edge of emotion i think wayne had the ability to step some distance aside to look at his life as if it were a play being presented scene by scene with an intense conclusion i am sharing some of the history of wayne in photos he recorded some poetry plays and books only on this one occasion did i photograph him in the process of recording he was totally having a great time making the words come alive for his book malacca gold lots of gusto there were about those times wayne opened his heart and shared the fire that drove him to write and encourage other writers and thinkers the energy of this book has already reached hungry readers around asia as from around the world together i helped weiser books find some of the literary people that knew wayne from times pouring over thai tea a singha or guinness in malaysia nepal japan connecting to talk about stars when the sun shines brings back memories of some great late night discussions i just spoke with scott berry author of a stranger in tibet due to rapid succession of travels around asia he went over every page of the manuscript again while he was being cared for he saw each day as so vital beautiful worthy of singing songs and being encouraging to all around him the book went to print flying elephants the truth about february 1 2009 i am willing to adjust my theory about the make up of the universe right thought i asked my writing students to play with an idea as if it is a ball and bounce them around for awhile before you dribble them down on paper i remember two answers the first came from a cynical high school senior who spent most of his time figuring amazing sometimes byzantium schemes so that he could avoid work life is full of contradictions he wrote but then again it isn t the kid got it naturally twisting words so they turned back on themselves like everyone does he entered the ballroom at the top of the stairs but came in with his butt first oops dang no it s okay i thought i was wrong but i was wrong same concept i had taught him well with my true and false test number 16 the answer to number 17 is true number 17 the answer to number 16 is false my students often developed headaches the other student s idea ball went up if wishes were horses and horses could fly we would need stronger umbrellas where did that come from this was written by a blonde haired intense assumed a student who always wanted to know the right answers and was impatient with my metaphorical response to her questions be willing to adjust your conceptions of the universe she broke through at that moment her mind was so excellent that she went back into being an obedient minding rather than mindful a student destined for college and all if she ever goes back to that point of break through i will most likely meet her she of course was quoting an old saw maybe she heard it from her mother mom i ve decided i want to go to yale oh have you now my darling daughter and you will indeed go there if wishes were horses and horses could fly looks like mom rained on her dream or more accurately gave her dream a golden shower no wonder she was looking for an umbrella once upon a time elephants flew or so the story goes it was in that golden land of shangrila in a warm high mountain valley of the himalayas a wise man inhabited the hill top in the middle of the valley a pleasant dome of land with easy slopes all the way around peasants became pilgrims coming on instinct to hear him preach his words of wisdom animals too were drawn to his enlightened presence even the birds of the air and the elephants came closer the elephants looked like clouds as the hovered overhead in the thermals but late in the day the thermals diminished and everyone knows elephants with their huge bodies cannot fly around forever at their leisure one of them swooped down and lighted delicately on a sturdy tree branch it was an inspired idea but not one that should be imitated necessarily another elephant came down and sat on the same limb their combined weight naturally was too much for the tree and the heavy limb snapped and plummeted down on top of twenty seven pilgrims killing and maiming them and totally disrupting a sermon like a fart in the front pew no pun intended but let s not go into that right now and besides it wasn t me it was bob berg and he pretended it was me so i would suck up all the blame and i was laughing so hard and blushing that i was guilty by aroma the reverend was so mad wait i believe there was a bleed through of stories the holy man on the hilltop was so peed off that so many people were screaming in pain and interrupting his sermon that he actually looked at the problem and assessed the cause immediately for he was a very wise man and there were a couple of elephants with wings now splayed out on the ground he darted his angry eyes at the totally embarrassed elephant and zapped off their wings and that explains why elephants cannot fly even to this day and that when you do see one in the sky it is more likely than not merely a cloud this adjusting ones concept to a new universe often comes at times of stress in grains of ancient gold there is the story of the execution of utimuti rajah his son and son in law the son in law approached his death with what appeared to be dignity upright but was really rigid with fear the son was bitter for he had been practicing and practicing a time honored invincibility ceremony on himself and he had just about got it right and now he was going to be killed before he had a chance to use it utimuti rajah the old coot was smiling broad his opium stained teeth exposed and beaming yellow he had seen the light that morning to prepare himself for the day he had given himself an extra pipeful and now he knew the secret the whole world the universe is made out of single celled elephants single celled elephants were the basic element of everything utimuti was euphoric all three lost their head that day who died the best given a choice would you rather see the world as unfair and a veil of tears and carry that conviction to the grave content on being correct in the room next to you is a fool who has enjoyed life to the fullest because he never really thought about spelled backward january 20 2009 my middle name is otto fortunately i m somewhat dyslexic there is an odd sort of symmetry even in this to have been given a name that would cause a dyslexic no problem seems unusually prescient even for my parents or do you believe in coincidence my mind functions differently than the average person imagine seeing things everything not just words in a mirror this metaphor limps my thought process is more akin to turning a tennis ball inside out without cutting it there is no ordinary vocabulary available let me show you instead in some cases mine is the more accurate way of looking at reality for instance the next time you watch the sun set you might want to sit down you can feel the world moving 1000 miles per hour and you are going backwards because that is what s happening try another if you shine only green light on a plant it will soon wither it reflects green having no use for that color so what we call green is actually every color but green the sky is every color but blue this is comforting to a mind like mine sometimes thinking inside the mirror gives you a completely new reality viewed from thousands of feet high on the slopes of mauna loa in hawaii on clear moonless nights there are so many stars filling the sky you can actually see the clouds where the stars aren t think about it i am not talking nonsense if you look at a sky filled with stars and find a place where no stars can be seen that isn t a hole in the sky it s a cloud at the top of mauna loa when the sun rises on the frost and melts it the frost remains white in the shadows beside the dark black wet rock exposed to the sun the world turns into a black and white photo negative of itself silence is the space between dog barks just listen to it you could think of a dog s bark as a dot pointing out the silence it is possible to make that choice how do you know that there aren t other dimensions happening at this moment if you haven t seen any traces and if there are other dimensions we most certainly are in them now all we need to do is become aware of the leaks everything is thought if it isn t thought it doesn t exist if it exists outside of thought
