tree plant small tree tree parcel farse my royal mail hell hello all it s been a while since my last blog so i thought i d check in hope your well i ve had a quite upsetting week hence the title of this post so i hope your sitting comfortably as the rant is about to begin after counting up my collection of bonsai trees i decided that 16 was a little too many and with a baby on the way i thought i d would be a good idea to sell a few logging onto e bay i listed a handful of them and watched the bids come in once they had finished i carefully boxed them up with plenty of bubble wrap and love and dropped them off at the nearest post office after the lady had weighed them in and mugged me of all my money i left confident that the packages would be treated with as much care as i have given them not a chance before after before after i m not quite sure what they were doing with either package but the trees were obliterated i ended up giving the buyer a full refund for both trees so i m i m not a big fan of working sundays well after having yesterday off i was in today which as everyone knows is a bank holiday however after popping across to the same garden centre let s just call it bomehase i picked up three banyan fig one fukien tea and one zelkova all around 10 12 years old for 7 50 each which is a proper bargain if you have one near you i insist you take a visit weetreestudio being slightly bored yesterday i decided to make use of a shallow ceramic pot that i had lying around and have a go at a group bonsai display i picked up three cupressus macrocarpa goldcrest trees which all stand around 20cm high apart from the one in the middle which is slightly heigher from a well known high street store for 6 which i thought was a bargain after trimming some of the lower hanging branches and pruning to shape i added some root treatment to them and positioned them within the pot adding a special bonsai soil mix i made a mound in the middle to add some perspective and some small stones for effect i was thinking about getting some small bark pieces and adding a meandering path through them maybe not a bad effort i think for little over 15 and it kept me quiet march my scots pine bonsai i ve given the roots a root grow treatment mycorrhizal fungi to help the tree take in more goodness and to promote good root growth it s the first time i ve done this so it s a tags bonsai bonsai tree fungi hobby tree flowering cherry prunus incisa flowering cherry bonsai prunus incisa prunus is all about blossom to most people the word also suggests large flowering trees with hungry roots but there is a neglected group of cherries that are much more workable where space is short the prunus incisa is from the slopes of japan s famous volcano and is a better choice than its larger cousin its blossom has come a little early this season although the autumn colour is spectacular and even the leaves are interesting in japan this prunus is often potted up for bonsai because its outline of zigzag twiggy branches with neat rough edged leaves means it looks interesting even while resting between blossom and autumn colour i ve resisted the urge to put it in a shallow ceramic pot and leave it in a taller pot emphasising its tall slender shape it s been wired and shaped to give it a slender reach look helping it show off its colour march 24 2013 ns eccentric leave a i took a trip to greenwood bonsai centre today to pick up some new ceramic pots i picked out a deep burgundy one for the citrus tree and a dark green one for the olive tree after removing the cheap plastic containers and a mass of overlapping and matted roots i got them ready for there new home olive tree front olive tree back the olive tree was positioned off centre due to the shape of the trunk split and i ve piled some rocks together over the overhang which i think works well citrus tree front citrus tree back i popped this tree in dead centre as it has a great trunk and an even branch spread i m really happy with both of my new trees and think they will both turn out to be great finds at this rate i ll need a new bonsai stand march 18 2013 ns eccentric leave a comment officially dislike having to work sunday that was until today when on the drive in i noticed a certain garden centre homebase were having a sale i m not a massive fan of supermarkets trying to be garden centres as they usually sell a mass of poorly grown plants and trees at ridiculous prices however i managed to pick up the following bonsai project trees for 10 each which i thought were pretty good value olive tree citrus tree i m hoping with a bit of work tomorrow trimming the roots and getting them into some nice ceramic pots they will look pretty good so a happy sunday after all march 17
