the mcguire family the mcguire family sunday january 18 2015 battling a sugar craving when we first started our weight loss journey i knew it was going to be hard i had tried eating good before on my own i would make it about 6 weeks and then i would give up and eat my guilt for giving up on myself it took me a while to realize that i was an emotional sweets eater if there was something to celebrate i wanted a sweet treat if i was having a stressful day at work i wanted to get something sweet if i was really upset for one reason or another i would go buy or bake something to try and help me feel better i would feel better for about 5 mins while i was eating it but once it was gone my feeling were back it is a vicious cycle i have been with out sugar for a year i took it one day at a time there were times when i literally cried because i wanted sugar its embarrassing to admit this but i promise to be 100 honest when i wanted sugar i would brush my teeth and have a big glass of water to take my mind off of the thought that i wanted sugar i no longer crave sugar i use to eat candy everyday at work now i can keep the candy jar on my desk and it doesn t bother me in the slightest candy does not sound good to me i do want the baked goods like cake cookies and pies for now i m not going to eat them because i ve worked so hard to resist them i am worried that if i have me know posted by the mcguire family at 5 21 pm no comments thursday january 15 2015 a year review 2014 2014 was an incredible year we had many adventures here are some of our highlights we went to arizona it was our first time flying as a family and it was avah s first time flying we had a wonderful time visiting with caitlin and ryan we went on a jeep tour in sedona and saw many interesting places jan 15 2014 the day after we got home from az wes started on his weight loss journey i joined in about a week later i am adopted and have know my whole life on march 11 2014 wes came to me and said don t be mad at me my first thought was oh crap he bought a motorcycle he then told me that he created a face book page looking for my birth family with in 3 days we had been able to contact each other i found out i have 2 sisters my sister and i always wanted more sisters many aunts and uncles and grandparents its been a dream come true we had our first major experience with having a child be in er it was horrible and i hope we never end up there again 2 weeks later we were back in the doctors office for stomach problems after x rays we discovered her bowels were severely backed up and it was causing a lot of pain avah had a party like a rock star birthday party we had karaoke refreshments and cupcakes we had some of her closest friends over to celebrate avah played soccer and has decided that she really loves it we have been asked to practice with a more competitive team i would love for her to find an activity she loves and follow it through for life we bought mountain bikes we love it wes is looking forward to improving his bike and trying out new trails this summer avah and i are still learning how to keep up with the boys we set a goal to go hiking as a family and we were able to go a few times our goal for this year is to make it to the top of the wellsville mountains they are one of the steepest mountain ranger in north america this year we were able to make it 3 4 of the way but we ran into a storm and weren t ready for those elements we participated in an amazing 5k race with the most wonderful group anything for a friend fight to the finish if you would like to know more visit http www anythingforafriend com we were on team preslee wes and avah ran the 5k my goal next year is to run the 5k we went to lagoon two times and spent the day riding rides and enjoying the pool we loved it so much that we now have season passes aug 2013 wes was kicked off a ride for being too big to ride he says he had to take the walk of shame this year we were able to ride every single ride we wanted to with no worries of being kicked off wes and i celebrated our 9 year anniversary it is amazing how quickly time passes it seems like just yesterday we met and were on our way to elope in october we celebrated my 30th birthday i ve always been nervous to turn 30 i remember my mom turning 30 my dad bought her a package of depends i thought it would be hilarious for my sister and i to put them on and run around the house i also remember thinking that 30 was old that day i was delivered the most beautiful floral arrangement the card told me they were from my birth mother and sister and they were coming to visit in a week i hoped that one day we would get to meet it was so exciting that it was happening for my 30th i don t know if any other birthday will top my 30th we spent christmas weekend in island park enjoying the cabin snow and snow machining we were able to do jan13 2015 we were featured on ksl new morning show wes was able to talk about some of his weight loss success and i was able to join by changing to a healthy life style we ve been able to do activities we never though possible together we have lost 265lbs you can watch the video 15 pm 1 comment tuesday february 28 2012 monday morning madness on monday morning we woke up late and were running behind i was doing avah s hair and grabbed what i thought was the water bottle sprayed a few squirts there was a really strong smell i looked at the bottle that i sprayed on avah s it was scentsy room spray it was super greasy i made avah get in the shower and wash her hair when she was done with the shower and we wee doing hair she grabbed the room spray bottle and said i ll be taking this away from you we were laughing so hard i m a spaz posted by the mcguire family at 8 53 by the mcguire family at 9 29 pm 1 comment saturday august 27 2011 vacation 2011 oregon coast the week of aug 15th we drove to the oregon coast it was so much fun the first night we stayed in tillamook or we stayed at the ashley inn the beds were amazing they had a pool so the kids were able to swim they were like little fish avah just finished swimming lessons before we went so she is now able to float on her back for 5 sec or longer without help and she can hold her breath for 5 sec under water we cant wait for her to start lessons again its amazing that in 8 lessons she was a completly different child around water wednesday morning we got up and went swimming again we drove out to cape meares to see the light house the view and scenery was beautiful we then drove down to pacific city and we went to the beach it was windy and the sand blowing accross the beach was like knives stabbing into your leggs we drove back to garibaldi and stayed at harbor view inn it was a cute little motel really clean rooms always a plus that night we went out to the jetty watched the waves and had some dinner thursday morning we were up bight and early 4 30 to head out deap sea fishing it was so freakin cold we signed in with the charter and headed out the loud humming of the boat motor and the rocking of the boat put me right to sleep the deck hands were laughing at me because they d never seen someone fall asleep on board and my mouth was wide open fishing was extremly slow but i was the first one to catch a fish jeff one of the deck hand kept casting out his line with us and when he would catch one he would hand me the pole to reel it in we caught the most fish out of our group on the way back to shore we picked up the crab pots we had dropped on our way out on the way back in i fell asleep again and woke up right before we got inland that night we went to the beach and played in the water collected shells walked on the beach and avah found a starfish on the beach so we tossed it back into the ocean friday morning we got up and headed home we drove all day long the kids were really good on the drive it was an excellent vacation and we didnt want to leave we cant wait to do it again i think next time we go we might go more south where its warmer and we are thinking of renting a beach house so that we can spend as much time as we can on the beach review avah loves putting on makeup getting her hair done dressing up in costume and performing she looks forward to it all year long i love to watch my little girl get up with all the confidence in the world and perform i dont really like to get up in front of people and i hope she will alway love to perform they had 2 songs that they danced to the first was calld sprinkle sprinkle little roses it was about watering your roses and they had little watering cans as their props and lollipop they had a big plastic swirl lollipop s when i was little i danced to lollipop and from what i remember it was one of my most favorite performances i was able to find flowers to match the color of avahs dance costume darn i cant get my pics to load i will keep working on it posted by the mcguire family
