aang wikiipediabf everyone mad at me for this like jesus yes he did make jokes he did do dumb things and get himself in trouble but you have to understand people can be funny in different ways a big part of what makes sokka funny is actually the way that he reacts to other people or the situations that he s in and most of the jokes he makes are very self aware and usually sarcastic he s not funny in the same way that aang would be considered funny but he makes you laugh because he s essentially the normal guy reacting to the crazy shit that happens to him like yeah he makes puns and is notoriously sarcastic from like one of his first lines of the show but to act like he s some free spirited guy who was relaxed all the time and tried to have fun all the time is insane and if you think that you genuinely might have to watch the show again like this is the same guy who was scheduling bathroom and snack breaks at the same time for efficiency who kept getting angry at aang for straying from his plans and who made most of the plans to get out of the boiling rock he literally made the invasion plan he invented submarines he figured out how to make the air balloons float and how to detect gas leaks go watch the show again and you ll see how often he mentions them being out of supplies and food like yes they re a team and they divide all the camp chores amongst themselves but he was also their main strategist the movie forgets all this and only makes his character the fun part of him while everyone else gets to grow up and be mature which doesn t make any sense because sokka has been that way since the beginning addressing the elephant in the room aang isn t silly enough he was the guy making those jokes ur telling me their ship is going down and sokka is the study done on how everyone on this site is extremely sympathetic towards zuko because they can understand that his actions were the direct consequence of the abuse he suffered at home but would rather die than extend the same sympathy or understanding to aang who is literally the last remaining survivor of a genocide like zuko can be as awful as he wants for the majority of the original show because he s learning and he s trying but aang having an intense emotional reaction because he s 12 and lost the one thing that survived the genocide of his people along with him is him overreacting and being immature okay man sure whatever i think it genuinely has to do with the enormity of aang s loss and suffering where most of us couldn t even understand or comprehend it even if we tried much less relate to it whereas zuko s experience becomes somewhat relatable to anyone who has suffered at the hands of their parents or family and you absolutely should be sympathetic to zuko s situation but the dissonance between how zuko s struggle is treated with maturity and nuance vs how aang is constantly criticised and mocked for displaying a fraction of that anger and grief when he s literally twelve years of age always leaves a bitter taste in my mouth mind u i love zuko i believed in him even when he had that fuckass hair style but holy shit some of you guys are either incredibly stupid the atla universe writers can never do properly is write about the entire bender vs non bender situation lol they consistently have plots where non benders want recognition and justice because they feel like they re being mistreated by the benders and the writers always make them out to be the villain i still think in the original show they dealt with this topic fairly well but the legend of korra and the movie is where it really just falls flat in the face both the movie and tlok constantly sideline and neglect their non bending characters or just not have any except the one token non bender and then try to act like the in canon non benders are stupid for saying they re being mistreated like you are literally proving their point for example the movie essentially making sokka entirely useless except giving him a flying bicycle for one hype aura moment which inevitably leads nowhere and then erasing almost entirety of it s other non bending cast just makes me think hey maybe the denied have a point actually i understand that it s a movie and they can t bring in every single side character but was suki not a part of the main gang by the end of the show was sokka not a leader a strategist and eventually a politician why couldn t we hear sokka s thoughts on the denied i understand that the denied are violent and have disruptive ways of being seen and heard but isn t their core principle right are the non benders not treated worse this isn t even a new point that was first mentioned in tlok you see it in the original show except they never spell it out for you you see it in the way sokka feels about himself you see it in the way toph initially treats sokka and assumes he s useless because he can t bend the boiling rock episodes aren t just fun but they re such good examples of sokka suki and hakoda and mai and ty lee who are all non benders doing most of the heavy lifting to get them out sokka with his brain suki with her fearlessness and dedication to her art and hakoda with his strength the atla universe always comes so close to addressing this issue with maturity and dignity and then just backtracks when it realises it can t give it too much time
