from the town of blairgowrie located in the region of perthshire in the center of scotland the town with its red stone buildings grew rapidly due largely to the town s location on the banks of the river ericht in the 18th century the blairgowrie area became a huge center for growing flax it seems only fitting that this sampler which was created in the style reminiscent of old scottish samplers should take its name from a scottish town with such a rich textile history this original sampler contains many traditional scottish features these include the large alphabet of illuminated letters
