after five years with the startup that too at 31 she walked away from what many would call stability i didn t quit because any of it was bad she said i quit because none of it felt mine from rushed mornings to slow days the shift changed everything starting with how her days look when she worked at mckinsey mornings were rushed and anxious spent hurrying to the office during the startup years the worry never switched off there was always something wrong or pending she said today living amid the hills in himachal pradesh her mornings are slow she wakes up quietly drinks a glass of hot water and journals for 30 40 minutes she cooks her own meals something she says was impossible earlier and eats healthier meetings are rare instead of squeezing life into weekends she designs her days around people hobbies and rest i enjoy the flexibility she said i don t have to wait for permission to live earning less owning more agrawal now works as a content creator and ghostwriter she does selective brand collaborations and hosts slow living experiences for small groups she has been travelling slowly across india and abroad for the past five years living out of a backpack the money she admits is much less than her corporate salary mostly i m happy because this life feels like mine she said sometimes i compare myself with my peers and think about the opportunity cost those moments usually pass when she hears how unhappy many of them are they tell me i m living their dream life that puts things in perspective parents are not convinced when asked how her parents reacted to her first quitting mckinsey and then the startup agrawal said they were shocked twice she told them she had quit only after she had already done it they didn t understand my choices at all she told moneycontrol even now they wish she had stayed at mckinsey and built a high paying career they also want her to settle down in one place they still don t understand why i want to live like this she said but they let me be the hard part and the point of it all agrawal is clear that this path comes with costs the hardest part she says is not comparing yourself with others and figuring out how to make money without losing your authenticity working alone means no bosses no structure and no safety net it takes a lot of mental strength she said the reward she added is growth you grow in ways you never would otherwise you re forced to take responsibility for every part of your life agrawal said four years in her life is still far from sorted but now every decision where she lives how she works
