spens family skip to main skip to sidebar spens family tuesday november 27 2012 thanksgiving every year my mom comes up with a fun little craft to do with the kids as our table centerpiece this year the kids made cute little turkey s they were all very unique and adorable the kids and grandma had a blast doing them this is what they looked like when they were finished then she decided to make gingerbread cookies for the kids to decorate they all got sugar high from this little project but had a bunch of fun to say the least we almost had everyone here this year my house is small but it sure was fun to have everyone come here again for thanksgiving i love it when we can all get together and make memories we were all stuffed to the max and getting ready to open grandma s christmas tree ornaments it s a tradition she has made from the time dillan was born and has held strong to it since the kids look forward to the ornaments than anything else a lot of people post something on facebook every day of what they are grateful for i dont do that but i would like to express my gratitude on here i am very thankful for my family i am grateful for my parents that have raised us to be a close family i am grateful for my wonderful husband i am so grateful for my children life would just not be complete without them in it i love each and everyone of my family so very much and i am so grateful for them i am grateful to live where i do to have a nice cozy house to live in the opportunity to live on a farm to have food on my table and clothes on my back each and every day and most importantly i am grateful for my heavenly father and brother jesus christ i hope everyone had a very special thanksgiving posted by katie at 2 50 pm no comments tuesday november 13 2012 happiness i ve written and deleted this particular blog so many times its not even funny i don t know why i hesitate to post it so the past several years i have studied about happiness and the things i could do to be happier in my life im not unhappy but i do feel like i could be happier with my life and show it more i have note books full of notes and journal entry after journal entry that promises to be better and improve my mood somethings i have gotten better about is spending more time with the younger kids but i need to try and find a solution to spend time with the older boys its hard because they are teenagers and lets be honest moms are just not cool when your a teenager haha but i have to at least try last weekend i woke up at 3 am and could not go back to sleep so i browsed through the library app to see if there was a good book to read because reading always makes me tired the only thing i could find that looked even a little appealing is a book called happier at home by gretchen rubin i started reading it and it was like this woman wrote the book about me with a new york life to say the least i didn t fall back to sleep and even later that day when i went in to have a nap which is rarely successful with a full house i kept reading and reading the last time i read a book and couldn t put it down was the twilight series she had some very interesting aspects to her happiness project some of which i would like to try so i ve made even more notes to start my own happiness project i will carefully and logically make a list of things i can change in myself to make me happier and maybe just maybe it will help others to be happier as well i plan to start as soon as possible so that i have a head start to the new year and will be less likely to fail at my goal if i start to make certain things a habit now then soon enough it will just be natural to me what do i have to lose nothing now is the time because tomorrow comes way too fast and i don t want to have anymore regrets i plan on keeping notes and hopefully will post my progress as i go along i think if i make this a public matter then i will be more apt to doing it so wish me luck posted by katie at 7 47 am no comments monday november 12 2012 snow the first big snow storm we had a whopping 4 inches the kids were so excited the night before when they seen that it was snowing before bed they talked about building a snowman in the morning and having a snowball fight once it stopped snowing the next day we all went out and played i think this was the fist time that kimber really got to enjoy the snow and it was the first time juan seen snow well more than a couple flakes anyways we had a snowball fight made snow angels and got the tube out to let the kids go down a little bank it was nothing like what scott and i grew up with but it was something and that s all that mattered they all played til their faces were purple and numb we usually only get a couple of good storms in the winter but still deal with the bitter cold so im glad they got to enjoy it before the wind picked up and blew it all away posted by katie at 4 57 pm no comments sunday october 28 2012 carving pumpkins gutting the pumpkins juan s facial expressions says it all haha he said i ll never be able to eat pumpkin again having fun juan and i in deep thought carefully carving our masterpieces the end results left to sadly we had so much fun watching the boys play this year dillan was so excited to play and he did a really good job he was in every game and is one of the tallest boys they have and one of the best tacklers out there i was a proud mom this was juan s first time playing football at first he wasn t too sure about doing anything but kicking the ball and then towards the end he was out tackling and playing defense he was really good and everyone loved him he has got quite the rep already now he is focusing on playing soccer for the riverton team he is so excited about it posted by katie at 7 20 am no comments thursday september 20 2012 music another little experiment that i tried this week was a different way to wake up in the morning as i sit here at my little table and stare out the window waiting for my kids to get up out of bed for the day i remember the morning we had yesterday i was getting sick of yelling in the mornings feeling rushed and stressed of the list in my head that i had to hurry and get done before the boys would leave for school so one morning i thought about trying music we live in a small house and have a surround sound i think that explains itself the first day i tried it was a success i blasted lmfao because it is one song i have that all of the kids like we all sang and danced and we got ready for the hectic day i was thinking about giving them warnings starting out quiet and gradually getting louder and louder but with my boys most of the time the older ones are up before i am and i only have to ask keegan once so if its kimber that needs to wake up its an automatic blast haha such a nice mom i know i just seems to make the mornings smoother and brings a smile to our faces and a little dance to our souls now even if the kids are up we still listen to each favorite song before they leave just thought i would share posted by katie at 6 12 am no comments wednesday september 19 2012 homemade laundry soap things needed 5 gallon bucket empty laundry container to put the soap in after it is done i have used apple juice milk and empty laundry bottles in the past and they all work great make sure you have at least 2 gallons 1 cup washing soda 1 cup borax 1 2 bar of fels napa soap or any kind of bar soap you like 2 cups of laundry soap optional first thing is to grate the bar of soap into fine pieces like the above picture in a big sauce pan bring 6 cups of water and the grated soap to a boil stir until all the soap is melted then add 1 cup washing soda and 1 cup borax i add them sep so they can dissolve faster boil until the borax and washing soda are completely dissolved looking like the above picture in the bucket put 1 gallon and 8 cups of hot water add the soap mixture stirring well to mix it all together then add 2 cups of your favorite laundry soap i don t always do this only if i have some on hand once it is mixed together i pour it into whatever empty container i have on hand today it was a laundry soap container it filled this big one so make sure you have at least a 2 gallon or 2 1 gallon container to put it in let it sit for 24 hours and wahla you have your own laundry soap this recipe is doubled so sometimes the gel is a little chunky so make sure you shake it really well before you use it only use 1 2 cup per load or a regular laundry cup that comes on your container there have been several occasions that i have needed to use it before it was set and it still worked great if you have any questions feel free to ask me i have been making this for a couple years now and i love it it works friends in december 2004 our first actual date was march 17 2005 we fell in love very quickly and was married by may 14 2005 it was a very fast engagement but i wouldn t change it for the world we was sealed for time and all eternity in the salt lake temple may 16 2006 and welcomed keegan in the world august 24th on march 1 2009 we welcomed kimber lynn to our family it has been so fun having a little baby in our home again we moved to wyoming in 2007 and have been here since we really enjoy it here we live on a farm with lots of horses cows dogs cats chickens and hopefully we ll keep adding to the list we love to do anything outside ride horses travel and spend time with our family but most of all we love to just be with each other and our children our kids dillan kim dillan is constantly on the go and doing things around the farm to help us and grandpa kim out he loves to do anything that involves the tractor he loves to play mechanic and try to fix broken things like lawn mowers and motorcycles he is such a good helper and just a good kid in general we are so glad to have him here with us we love him as our own i just cant say how grateful i am to have him here love u dill keegan scott keegan was born august 24 2006 he has grown up so much he is very interested in all the boy stuff guns fighting spiderman chasing the dogs around the house everything like that he really enjoys going to school and learning new things he still keeps me on my toes and still loves his mama snuggle time thank goodness i love him so much i couldn t ever imagine my life without my kids in it kimber lynn kimber was born march 1 2009 she has been a very active little girl from the day she was born she keeps up with her older brothers very well and makes sure they know that she s the boss i am constantly on the watch for her because she likes trying new things that puch the limit like jumping off the top bunk bed she is a major mama s girl always has to be near me and snuggle with me when its time for bed i love my lil bug so very much and im so happy that i get this opportunity to be her mother juan camilo juan is a foreign exchange student from cali colombia that became a part of our family august 18th we have really enjoyed having him live with us and be our son he is very well mannered fun energetic and outgoing young man he already has many friends in school and has joined the football team to be the kicker his favorite thing to do it play and watch soccer his team is of course real madrid he enjoys playing games and listening to music electronica music he is very eager to learn anything american he knows english very well and improves on it each day i am so glad that we decided to be a host family and that we got juan for our son it will be a very
