recipe associated with george i exist but most of these seem to be dateable only to the 19th century so there is some debate around the authenticity of any of them the so called king s christmas pudding written down by my late father in the jungles of burma in 1943 describes a rather plain pudding recipe although it does include a couple of now hard to get ingredients like candied citron which when i made this i bought online the suet came fresh at a local butcher i had never attempted this recipe before but i found the quantities make a large quantity of pudding mixture enough for a couple of big puddings or four average sized puddings after hours of steaming a sweet christmas smell permeates the kitchen this evening with the puddings hanging in their usual place from one of the butcher s hooks one pudding will get a final warm up on christmas day 2024 the others will be stored in a cool dark place for a later date christmas in july anyone a string of christmas puddings in breadcrumbs ½ lb 230g sifted flour ¾ lb 340g ground almonds 1 lb 450g demerara sugar 1 lb 450g stoned raisins 1 lb 450g currants 1 lb 450g sultanas 4 oz 110g candied citron 4 oz 110g candied lemon 4 oz 110g candied orange peel teaspoon of mixed spice teaspoon of nutmeg a pinch of salt 1 lb eggs weighed in shells 8 eggs ¼ bottle sherry 1 wineglass brandy ½ pint 300ml beer the mixture is given 12
