building in a loud ongoing rumble while several cars in chase whooshed like bats outta hell with their motors revved up barreling down market street top that off with an ambulance suddenly blasting its siren as it careened through the castro to wherever wtf was all i could think over and over again things quieted down about ten minutes later but there were sketchy types lurking about and i had to keep crisscrossing market street to steer clear of them and protect lucky i didn t even know if deek were still out there on the corner as some others were and i couldn t tell if one of them was him though a ton of his crap was still there but he could ve just dumped it and departed so i had no choice but to walk away from my building s corner and towards castro street after the bars had closed the worst place to roam about at that time of night 3 30 am once we crossed the intersection of castro market we veered left onto 17th street and passed three houses in a row each of which i lived in consecutively in 1979 the year before i got sick of constantly moving to another rental and migrated south to santa cruz where i lived for three years also moving from place to place before returning to san franshitsco to share a flat with a royal jackass who went to the bathhouses every single night and died of aids almost two years later in the most agonizing way possible and i had to move again a bit later we looped back around to castro market crossed the intersection and walked up the hill that was still castro street minus the tacky glitter two blocks up we turned right down 15th which led us back to noe street and morey s corner shop we were now just two blocks from market street and hotel california north on the northern edge of the district lucky seemed perfectly okay didn t puke again since he vomited outside my premises almost an hour previous upon reaching the intersection of 16th noe market i espied some vagrant crushing cans on my building s corner with two doggies prancing about it was deek of all people at such a late hour i don t think he saw me or he would ve called out as i swiftly led lucky back up noe street at a fast clip he was with another indigent and they began moving in my direction that is onto noe street instead of walking straight up market we slipped left up 14th street as i raised lucky into my arms and proceeded halfway up the block at a hurried pace then seated ourselves on some doorsteps hidden by the shadows of two large trees fearing that deek and company might walk further down noe and spot our presence i was prepared to sprint all the way up the hill to castro street while clutching the 25 pound brindlekin close to my chest who fortunately remained silent all that while didn t even bark at deek when we almost had a run in good doggy we remained concealed on those wooden steps for around fifteen minutes before i figured the coast was clear finally apparently deek and cohort only turned the corner to collect cans on that end of noe where stood the mediterranean restaurant and rosenberg s right next door and no further then turned around to resume their scavenging of bottles and cans along market street next block up what a close call wattson if i had the bodhisattva script in my hands i could outsmart deek and everyone else in my world every single friggin time alas kismet so deems this will never be or at least not until i discover the scroll a hidden object somewhere on the map that will also gift me with unlimited power ups alas that may never occur until i ascend to the next level however that is achieved and whatever that even means solving puzzles bores the hell outta me and that is why i always use a cheat sheet if i can find one and activate god mode if i can discover the key to do that as well nonetheless even without those gaming perks in this battle of the bodhisattvas multiplayer rpg i safely returned hovel with sweet lucky by my side and we both crashed out soon as we hopped onto the bed and drew up the covers he kept my feet toasty warm for all those wee hours and we both slept well bed bug update yesterday paolo never got back to me about scheduling my room for bed bug treatment this is worrying as he has always been prompt to return my call later that same day so i wondered if he just went straight to devon about this but if so surely devon would ve informed me by now thus i planned to contact him about it some time the next day but i fortuitously ran into him later that afternoon at the corner of market 16th streets waiting to cross hello devon i said as i approached him did paolo ever call you about scheduling pest treatment oh hey zeke he turned to me in reply no he did not that s not like him i expressed my concern i texted him yesterday and he s never replied now i m not one to spread sad rumors but i suggest you contact the company he works for and ask if he s alright yes that is most concerning he agreed he s always been prompt and will call them later that day and get back to me about it well it s now the next day and he hasn t yet wattson and i m wondering what this bed bug infestation is gonna lead to if not tended to very soon they still remain a minor nuisance but i m sure they re almost ready to breed again a population explosion i care not to deal with plumber inspection today residents on the west wing of my floor received a notice taped to our doors yesterday that there s a bad water leak coming through the ceiling of the hohokum smoke and dildo shop no doubt they re talking about the extended floor space that once composed the atm station about ready for business after so many months construction work that caused a mouse infestation on our building s second floor so of course that includes my unit dammit and i certainly won t be able to remain indoors for the entire stretch of 11 am to 4 pm due to lucky s poopy strolls in which case the plumber will access my room w o my presence gaetani posted a notice about a week earlier asking all pertinent residents to check their sinks and toilets for leaks and get back to them if they find any i don t think anyone did or perhaps the leak in question is hidden between the woodwork at any rate i informed devon some time ago that i only have a sink no restroom and there is no leak i can find the cabinet floor below the drainpipe is absolutely dry though it does have a hole chewed out by some mousy occupant that i just discovered this morning when emptying the cabinet see pic 1 cheap particle board easy for a rodent to gnaw through in a short time i wouldn t care for the plumber to report this aspect to gaetani as i d rather not be intruded upon on top of the bed bug issue at this juncture i have since covered up the cabinet floor with a rectangle of aluminumized bubble wrap that i cut from a larger piece i found on the back porch hopefully the plumber won t look under it i will return a tub to the cabinet in which i store some cleaning products right above that gaping hole good news morticia as i was taking a short break from composing this missive i stepped into the hallway and heard whom i figured was the plumber knocking on the door of a 3rd floor unit gaetani here is anyone home so i walked upstairs to greet him and request he check my unit right now if possible so i won t have to cancel an later i took lucky for his third poopy jaunt of the day when i arrived at the gate another resident whom i ve never seen before had his own wee mutt half the size of mine on a leash and looked apprehensive but i held lucky in tight reins and opened the gate wide so he and his teensy charge could pass through with ease he thanked me profusely but his poochie began to bark at lucky just the same and lucky did likewise in return suddenly i heard some passerby call out shut up lucky bad dog it was that vagrant wayne the heavyset scruffy bearded jackass who obliged deek a few months back by pretending the other dog deek acquired for a few weeks was actually his i felt like following him around the corner to behind my building where he was camped out with a few other deadbeats and clobbering him on the spot how dare he talk to a sweet little dog like that he s every bit as rotten as my cajun scumbag upon our return a delivery person carrying a small package showed up at the gate just when i pressed the entry code and grabbed the handle so i kept the gate ajar and told him go ahead he then entered and held the gate open for me but i told him don t worry about us go ahead he didn t seem to grok my point that it s better for me not to have lucky enter with a stranger close by so i had to repeat myself before he released the gate from his grasp and walked towards the elevator i stood outside until the elevator arrived he stepped in and the doors finally closed i hope he didn t take that personally but some people are pretty damned stupid when it comes to canine protocol they are the kind who when walking along don t take care to veer away from a leashed dog coming in the other direction by at least a foot instead they almost crash right into the quadruped as if all dogs are trained in hollywood or they re looking to get bitten cause they d love to collect a sizeable wad of cash in a dog bite lawsuit at any rate i then ascended the stairway with lucky playing ninja pup by grabbing onto the heel of my left foot and slowing down my pace considerably soon as we arrived on the first landing devon appeared outta the blue barreling down the carpeted steps i quickly crouched down and held lucky close and told him to go ahead but i don t think he even bothered to stop in the first place he certainly didn t make any sort of reply and ya know wattson he hasn t bothered to tell me yet what s up with paolo and what about finding another exterminator to treat my room looks like i m gonna have to go over his head and contact gaetani directly this may
