later the bone temple 2026 pssst this is where i ll spoil the end of the previous movie if you forgot about that warning from the start of the post after his mother s passing and the abandonment of his home spike set out to explore the vast world of the british countryside where he found himself rescued from infected by a strange group of tracksuit wearing oddballs led by the charismatic if mildly creepy jimmy crystal jack o connell a little bit later we pick up with spike finding himself being harassed by the group trying to make it through each day meanwhile the returning dr kelson ralph fiennes is conducting experiments to try and understand the infection a bit more if the first movie was an exploration of hope and love the bone temple is more about the exploration of evil and of not losing oneself it s a much grimmer tale on the whole with more instances of bad shit being perpetrated by man while also featuring this through line of trying to maintain one s humanity in a world where its so easy to lose sight of it this movie arguably has a more straightforward narrative in that sense as a lot of the weirdest legwork was done in the first one allowing for more familiar territory to be explored while still maintaining the heart of what came before we ve seen apocalypse stories about cult of personality we ve seen apocalypse stories where the main cause is turned on its head somewhat we ve seen stories where ralph fiennes is an absolute oddball and it allows this tale to be more digestible while still having a very interesting flavor of its own a flavor that feels very britpop the story just evolves its vibe here in an oddly musical way fascinatingly leaning into some of the uk s music history in order to give its story and characters a very human grounding that resonated on a level i can t even begin to describe it s a narrative that s as brutal as it is beautiful as dark as it is bright as nasty as it is for lack of a better word fun the characters continue being great evolving in really engaging ways and showing a fascinating amount of layers that work for both drama and humor making them feel more real than i think i might ve anticipated i also find it really intriguing to see these personalities clash from their wider ideologies to their deeper quirks it makes for some really electrifying character dynamics and as before the cast is superb alfie williams is once again fantastic i hope he has a very good career jack o connell coming hot off of his villainous turn in sinners once again brings us another deliciously abnormal figure playing jimmy crystal in way that are equal parts unnerving and a bit of fun and then you have ralph fiennes who stole the show in 28 years later and commits absolute fucking highway robbery here with an an incredible performance that shows every range of human emotion in believable and magically entertaining ways i also want to give special shoutouts to erin kellyman and emma laird who play two members of o connell s gang both vastly different in personality one warm one creepy but both equally brilliant and both standing out in this highly talented ensemble oh and chi lewis parry he s great in his recurring role too god what a cast unlike the last one danny boyle did not direct this but instead we got nia dacosta who along with doing an excellent job here directed the underappreciated candyman sequel reboot from 2021 that s not relevant to this movie but i wanted to give it a shout because it s really good anyhow she did a great job here not as experimental as boyle but instead just bringing a steadiness to it that i think fits with this story things were already set up with the first one so now that we already have a solid footing we could steady on a bit and i think dacosta nails that while also bringing a fiery intensity to proceedings from quieter bits of tension to more violent bursts to a particular sequence late in the film if you know you know dacosta has this confident ebb and flow to her craft that makes each scene thrilling and the music in this is another highlight young fathers did not return but instead we see icelandic composer hildur guðnadóttir take the reigns and she did not disappoint she does bring in some of the strange eerie vocalization style we heard in the previous movie while also letting her own dark brooding often string based style shine to create another great soundscape the movie also has a greater amount of needle drops than the previous which i did lightly touch upon with the story using some great british bands to explore facets of our characters the world they inhabit their role within it and music s impact on humanity and i adore theire usage it s flawless one track in particular if you know you know just hit like an absolute truck and had me grinning ear to ear both due to me being a fan and because of its faultless utilization i adored the bone temple it s a fantastic follow up to the great 28 years later and i can t wait to revisit it some day will we ever get the third part alex garland s talked about i don t know doesn t seem too likely due to bone temple not doing hot at the box office but one can always dream i want to see this story wrap up have a good one and don t lose hope series review primal season 3 2026 16 03 2026 themarckoguy leave a comment i adored the first two seasons of this show some of the most brutal unique and deeply interesting tv i ve ever watched but when season 3 was announced i was apprehensive as the second outing ended on a very interesting and somewhat final way for lack of a better word but here we are third season wrapped so is it good let s find out oh and spoilers for the end of s2 because it ties into the setup of this and i can t pussyfoot around it ladies gents and non binaries primal season 3 after succumbing to injuries sustained in his last battle the caveman known as spear aaron laplante has been laid to rest a number of months later his eternal peace gets interrupted by a shaman who brings him back to life as a zombie and we follow the now necrotic neanderthal as he wanders the dangerous world trying to find his purpose and make sense of these visions he starts having the story this season is quite fascinating as it s quite a slow burn tale tackling grief change legacy and reconciliation done in the show s unique style i don t think it always quite works the first few episodes feel a hair meandery and aimless even in moments when it i feel like it starts to find its footing it can feel quite unsteady i get that trying to rejig the pieces after s2 s radical end is tricky but those early bits don t always feel entirely satisfying but then from episode 4 onwards it starts to properly build with emotional developments clever threads weaving into a riveting web leading to one walloper of a finale the last episode blew me away largely thanks to the beautiful work done in that second half of the series it s intense it s brutal it s funny it s emotional it s a damn good if rocky story the characters in this are wonderful beautifully expressive and colorful all getting marvelous little arcs throughout spear our leading man has always been compelling but here there s so much work done to add so many layers of nuance to the man showing more vulnerable sides to him developing his past and present to make him a genuinely beautiful character and despite having no proper dialogue only performing in grunts screams roars shouts hoots and hollers aaron laplante remains pitch perfect in the role to convey so much with no actual words is impressive and i every episode i m blown away by just how pitch perfect his noises are as with the previous seasons the score was provided by tyler bates and joanne higginbottom and once again their work is superb a rollicking mix of classic orchestration influences from some african folk music even some electric guitars it s a rich and emotionally powerful score that always managed to stand out and give each scene a lot of weight tension or sense of fun season 3 of primal was directed and co written by creator and showrunner genndy tartakovsky a legend in this household and i am beyond impressed by what he and his crew did this season primal has always looked good giving us well animated gory action since 2019 but here they ve majorly stepped up their game with consistently fluent animation in both action and quiet moments as well as some of the most gorgeous color and lighting i ve seen in an animated series making for some of the most breathtaking visuals i ve had the pleasure of experiencing in recent memory and as always the blood flows but despite being quite brutal and nasty the sprays don t necessarily feel as excessive as before maybe it s just me being a desensitized gore whore but i swear the first two seasons felt way bloodier that s not to say that i m disappointed by this just found it interesting this show season has been well received on rotten tomatoes it has a 100 positive rating on metacritic it has a score of 85 100 and on imdb com it has a score of 8 6 10 and is ranked 154 on the top 250 tv shows list while i did overall find it to be a step down from what came before season 3 of primal is still a damn good bit of tv with a fantastic finale it has a really good story great characters really good performances great music and fantastic directing animation time for my final score rawr my final score for primal season 3 is an 8 4 10 so while flawed i d still say it s very much worth watching my review of primal season 3 is now completed i kinda hope they don t make more because that ending is perfect movie review the running man 2025 14 02 2026 themarckoguy 1 comment fun fact i m not a fan of running love a good walk on a nice day i can walk forever but running can get absolutely bent ladies gents and non binaries the running man the world has gone to shit america is a dystopian hellscape run by corporations more so than it already is with people taking part in lethal game shows to desperately trying to make ends meet one such man is ben richards glen powell who in order to try and pay for medicine for his daughter goes to take part in a show known as the running man roll credits a dangerous show where he must survive being hunted for 30 days and we follow richards as he hides weaves and yes runs from all sorts of danger i had a lot of fun with this story it s propulsive it s kinetic and it does have some things to say about government and the commercialization of human desperation it s a little ham fisted in its more satirical elements but it does give the narrative a good drive and a slight edge that makes events more intriguing it s a solid fun and engaging story up to a point the last act is drawn out limp and feels like it kinda just fizzles out it doesn t flow right and the writing within it just doesn t carry the same zip and zap of what came before i had a blast with what came before but that last act really does hamper the overall thing the characters in this are a lot of fun a colorful bunch of individuals whose personalities clash in really enjoyable ways glen powell plays ben richards a good natured yet short fused man caught in a tense desperate scenario to try and provide for his family constantly on edge it makes for some solid drama and even humor when he s consistently pushed throughout the runtime with glen powell giving a really solid performance josh brolin plays the big corpo producer behind the show and he s delightfully slimy in the role colman domingo plays the flamboyant host of the show and he s buckets of fun and throughout we also get supporting work from people like jayme lawson karl glusman katy o brian william h macy daniel ezra and many more all delivering really good work the score for the movie was composed by steven price and it s fine kind of generic some cyberpunky synths some typical orchestration but nothing that ever really pops it s not inherently bad it works fine enough but it s just kinda whatever there are also a handful of licensed tracks used throughout and they work quite well to set some fun moods during action scenes and such based on the novel of the same name by stephen richard bachman king the running man was directed and co written by edgar wright and he did a pretty good job here it s not the most wright ish movie in terms of directing or editing dialing back the snappy energy usually found in a lot of his output but you still get some of it in certain transitions and in a few action beats and while i do lament not getting full wright energy in this i still like what they did the editing is tight and the action scenes are quite enjoyable in how they re crafted they re well shot decently violent and they did make me smile multiple times this movie s gotten some mixed reception on rotten tomatoes it has a 62 positive rating on metacritic it has a score of 56 100 and on imdb com it has a score of 6 2 10 while it is quite flawed i had quite a bit of fun with the running glen it has a pretty good story good characters great performances pretty good music and really good directing time for my final score ahem my final score for the running man is a 7 56 10 so while not perfect it can still be worth renting my review of the running man
