ing and or just plain boring thing for me to do but this thing i like it at least as an observer anyway the socionics section there s no real socionics section because i ve already typed her in my previous post featuring her and i typed her iei but mentioned that the vanilla chatgpt whom i also asked to type her i didn t have my talanovish assistant grisha at the time yet typed her iee and did have some convincing arguments but basically her music and everything around it is very iei i still think the same and in fact what i ve just said about what her pieces are like and how they make you feel is very strongly connected to the cognitive function of ni as understood in talanovism if she s really an iee she s gotta have some gigantic ni accent but it s only today that i ve actually given some more thought to how her song titles are actually ridiculously sensory even jack noticed it which could make you think that maybe she s actually all about si capturing the present moment just the way it is and slowly relishing it that kind of thing or both si and ni together being nostalgic about the specific sensory aspects of the past even a specific era going back to them reliving them and recreating them just as they were then she could be an sei or an sei with an iei accent iei with an sei accent the sei iei hybrid people really enjoy recreating the past and immersing themselves in the sensory details of it and they re basically always at least somewhat artsy people if not artists but i don t get much sei ness or sensing in general from mary s music as such or from anything that i ve heard her say or read about her she seems rather abstract and as far as i am concerned what i get from her music is not so much sensory immersion in anything as more of a sense of a general vibe impression or combinations of emotions if that distinction makes sense this might be me i am an iei myself and one with ridiculously high intuition and floored sensing so i would say that generally robertson lord galloway s lamentation hey people today i thought i would share with you a traditional tune that s got a bit of a strange history to it from the title of it one could easily expect it to be scottish galloway is after all a region of scotland but it s actually irish and the galloway is more than likely a corruption of galway already the first collection of tunes that it appears in misspells the name as gallaway the lament later travelled to london and scotland as well and in london it got further mangled to galloway this lament is attributed to turlough o carolan the famous blind irish harper many of whose tunes i ve shared on this blog over the years in different interpretations however that too is probably wrong irish musicologist and historian donal o sullivan whose study of o carolan s life and work remains the most authoritative source could find no real evidence that the piece was authored by him according to him there s no credible lord galway person that he could have been lamenting there was however one earl of galway henri de massue also known under the title of 2nd marquis de ruvigny a french huguenot who went into exile entered william iii s service and distinguished himself in the battle of aughrim for which he was rewarded with jacobite forfeited estates he founded a huguenot colony at portarlington and served as lord justice of ireland from 1697 to 1701 notably most of the penal laws statutes discriminating against people practising faiths other than anglicanism which in ireland would obviously primarily be catholicism happened to be enacted during the height of his influence he died in 1720 and the tune first appeared in print in around 1724 in a collection of the most celebrated irish tunes by john and william neale so it would at least add up chronologically but o carolan was obviously catholic therefore aside from chronology the idea makes rather little sense to me unless the piece is supposed to lament not so much the man himself but all the ways in which he made the lives of irish catholics at the time suck even more than before lol so what seems to make most sense is to assume what o sullivan does that there really is no incontrovertible evidence of the tune having been written by carolan and that it may not be for a lord galway at all but instead written by one though who that would be i ve no idea as for kim robertson the american harpist who performs this piece she has already been featured on my blog a couple of times including a bit earlier this year with another irish tune cape clear socionics section i didn t type kim in that previous post so i thought i d try to come to some conclusion to share it in this one but it turns out that unlike what i hoped there doesn t actually seem to be that much material to type her from granted i didn t dig too deep yet just asked grisha to look for something but he didn t manage to find a whole lot from what he did find our joint conclusion is that she is very likely an ethicist and quite possibly irrational and judicious that leaves us with just two types sei and iee and although grisha managed to find a quote where she describes her childhood teenage self as an introvert at the same time the sheer quantity and breadth of her output points towards socionic extraversion and or a fair amount of ne which favours iee and that s what both i and grisha interesting piece from a project which i ve become familiar with quite recently in january 2020 welsh harpist rhodri davies who works in the field of free improvisation reductionism released telyn rawn an album of improvisations played on an instrument of the same name a mediaeval welsh harp strung with plaited horsehair as opposed to the now more normie gut or wire the earliest known reference to the horsehair harp appears in the 13th century manuscripts of the laws of hywel dda it would have been the instrument of travelling minstrels and bards and one of the last that were made in wales prior to the one commissioned by davies was referenced around two hundred years ago four years later he invited some of his favourite musicians to respond to his improvised pieces asking them to imagine that the original music was actually an ancient musical form that had fully existed in the mediaeval period whereas they were responding to it centuries later their responses to davies s original work have been recorded on the album creiriau y delyn rawn relics of the horsehair harp i like the whole speculative fiction idea so much and the fact that this all revolves around such a cool reconstructed instrument i ve been somewhat familiar with rhodri davies before via another improvising musician laura cannell as the two once recorded a collaborative album feathered swing of the raven and i also knew him as the guy who deconstructs disassembles destroys and burns his instruments and then puts them back together and does all sorts of other very unusual things with the harp far more unusual for that matter than laura lotti whom i featured last week but i hadn t actually heard a whole lot of his music until relatively recently and the whole horsehair harp thing has got to be one of my favourite things that he s done though his whole musical activity is very much my thing really because let s say this once again on this blog i absolutely love it when people do weird unobvious things with the harp all instruments really but the harp in particular because most people seem to view it in an awfully narrow way and i don t think i ve heard of anyone who has gone further in this than rhodri davies the piece from relics of the horsehair harp that i d like to share today is played by british jamaican multi instrumentalist orphy robinson i say he s a multi instrumentalist because he does play very many different instruments however his speciality is tuned percussion in particular vibraphone and marimba this particular piece is played on barimba which isn t an instrument that i d ever heard of before but as far as i ve been able to establish it seems to be a smaller more portable two octave marimba we ve recently had an artist whose main instrument is the vibraphone but i m sure we ve never had a marimba player let alone an actual marimba track let alone a barimba track so today is the day i remember i had a phase as a very little kid where i was low key fascinated with these kinds of pitched percussion instruments xylophones and vibraphones and stuff and i still do find them cool if only because it s something you don t tend to hear too often unless you go out of your way to do so and maybe it s just a me thing but i think there s a strangely soothing quality to their sound kind of no matter what you re playing the equivalent piece on telyn rawn is gorchan sali sali s charm incantation pretty much all the other titles on the relics album have some connection to their original sources which is in itself really interesting and kind of reminiscent of how linguistic stuff changes over time this one isn t as straightforward but charms and spells can often be comprised of nonsensical rhyming words so maybe this is what the connection is here made me realise how many negative tinted words english has that rhyme with this crude screwed feud brood as in think unhappily prude sued gorchan sali by the way is also a great piece and arguably vibes with my imagination a tiny bit more the socionics section and i m very excited for this one because it looks like rhodri davies is an ile and i ve already expressed on this blog that i ve been really enjoying collecting iles especially musical iles or female iles or both one reason being that i ve felt like there aren t very many iles in the very nf dominated field that is music and arts in general another reason being that it s possible i have an ile accent myself i e am not a full blooded ile but an iei with a sort of slight ile pull on top of it so i want to know how broad the ile ness spectrum can be and for that reason ile females are one of the ile subgroups i m into because i ve seen very few to them relative to male iles and the last reason is that my sister sofi is an sei and ile is her dual the most compatible type so i want to be good at spotting iles so i can give her a good idea of what to look out for to find an ile so she can marry one in the future and so they can dualise but it looks like my reason 1 might just be invalid in the first place since rhodri davies is the fifth ile i ve typed on this blog this year the ile club also consists of holly herndon someone or everyone in the bug club glennskii from groovekojad and so wylie i had doubts about the latter but at this point if she s not an ile i really don t know what she is even the ratio of ile females to ile males excluding the bug club since i don t know who exactly is an ile there is now equal as far as our musical mini sample size goes so while i still know of overwhelmingly more ile men than ile women in the world at large what i ve once said about ile females seeming to be rarer might also not be true after all assuming you can conclude anything seriously from such a mini sample that s likely skewed in multiple ways but an ile harpist is quite something isn t it i have to say i haven t actually typed him super in depth yet but as audacious as it may sound it s kind of obvious from afar that he s an ile what i did is i read up on him myself more than what i d known and asked my talanovish assistant grisha to type him in mode 2 which is like a lighter typing session which isn t so heavy on the biographical research and doesn t take an hour or however long we both reached the same conclusions though grisha also says there could be a moderate lii accent frankly it doesn t jump out at me much i d say he s a plain unflavoured ile and would be more rational than he seems to be if there was an lii accent but i guess don t know enough to exclude this possibility there s definitely a lot of ti but it very evidently works in service of ne and he seems to find the latter far more interesting in itself he isn t an ethicist because there s very little ethical subject oriented content in any of the interviews with him his writings etc that i and grisha have found and in fact there s an interview where he s asked how he keeps long term musical relationships fresh and he framed his answer very much around logistics not fifififififififi ing irrationality is kind of self explanatory given the type of work he does i d be low key surprised to find some uber rational lsi with no ne improvising all the time i mean i did not necessarily go into typing him being 100 sure that he s irrational because he s an improviser but for him the spontaneity and unplanned ness of it seems to be very much the point and what comes naturally he also said something typically interesting about disavowing conscious style changes any changes in it should happen slowly fluidly and organically i have a feeling it could also serve as evidence for dynamics which the pure ile is not and lii isn t all the more so maybe he s a dynamic ile but not too sure whether this is any real dynamics evidence at all it s probably better attributed to irrationality he s obviously very intuitive even all his experimenting with preparations and how different things affect sound the way he approaches it is to my current understanding classicile testing the limits and experimenting with what s going to explode when you break this or combine these things that no one s thought to combine before seems potentially somewhat questim or in any case more questim than declatim he s certainly quite individualistic it seems which is what an ile should be though somehow holly herndon is a very collectivist one as i wrote in my post about her robinson grisha says he s an ese with an iee accent i guess that d make him the first ese on this blog not sure we ve had any yet i think he s an iee with an ese sensing accent or some ambisensuitive iee one who s relatively neutral on intuition sensing it s harder to tell in his case at least with just a sloppy mode 2 typing but sounds like an ethical extraverted and very possibly peripheral judicious type whether he s a sensor...
