have an effect on you to a point it s not really about who owns the media it s more about who controls it there s a difference it s the people who control the media that civilians need to be aware of as they are the ones with the power but in order for them to be to manipulate the way we think and feel we have to allow it access to our minds which totally doesn t sound like mind control or anything subtle propaganda has been around for such a long time that often people are unaware that they re being manipulated at all we would never call the ad campaigns that take place in our educated are we really something which i ve always found fascinating is how images can hold so much power they are capable of making people think just as much as any other medium which is interesting because they re just a still picture a moment captured in time but that s it or is it there are many instances in which they have been cleverly set up to manipulate the viewer into feeling a certain way ads and propaganda are notorious for doing this and i have long been fascinated in these kinds of campaigns times of war or the threat of war are when these campaigns are most likely to occur they play on people s emotions fear is the most common weapon used to put one over people thus making them do what they are told one of the most infamous posters used during the white australia policy is called the mongolian octopus and it allows an insight into a time which we sneer at today believing ourselves to be superior this image shows an asian face with the body of an octopus white people are being trapped and ensnared by arms that have words engraved in them that would ignite terror in their viewer such as opium smallpox and immorality this image has very much been constructed with a
