bridge ipa brewed by cottrell brewing company in pawcatuck ct 6 alcohol so after glancing at a few beer reviews i noticed some people feel the need to tell you how the beer pours out into a glass they ll give you the color of the beer the amount of foam head heh heh and all that jazz let me tell you now unless otherwise noted these beers are pouring right out of the bottle into my throat mystic bridge ipa now lets get the point mystic bridge ipa i m not a huge fan of ipa s so right off the bat i get a little worrisome before tasting one mystic bridge ipa is technically an american ipa india pale ale which is slightly different than the uk ipas they are known for their hoppy taste which results in that bitter after taste that takes a while to get used to most average beer drinkers don t like ipas as they don t have a great drinkability factor you don t pound an ipa down to get hammered mystic bridge is not an overpowering ipa it s hoppy and bitter enough to know its an ipa but its not extreme it goes down smooth and if your like me where ipas take some getting used to after muscling through the first one the rest drink with no problem i d say this is a good beer for people looking to venture out of their budweiser phase and want to try an ipa a good introductory ipa if you will i didn t drink this during dinner but it s got a good taste and is probably an excellent dinner beer like i said before this is not something you can slam down but i don t think there is an ipa you would want to do that with it s slight bitterness is almost welcoming i want to compare it to other ipas but i don t have much experience in them yet if i had to pick one i d say its comparable to magic hat s blind faith but that s probably because that s the last ipa i tasted that i liked maybe that ll be the next review if you re in the area you can visit cottrell brewing company at 100 mechanic street pawcatuck ct 06739 they have tours and tastings monday wednesday by appointment thursdays at 3pm fridays every half hour from 3 6pm and saturdays every half hour from 1 5 be sure to spread the word to your friends about this blog if there s something you d like to see reviewed or know it s more than a month away but i wanted to get the word out there in case nobody knows about it on july 23 at the rock hill fire department the international great beer expo will be taking place from 2 00pm 6 00pm tickets are 40 if purchased ahead or 55 at the door if any tickets are available the price includes a tasting glass and ability to taste 2 oz pours of any participating brewery as of right now they are expecting 30 brewers and 75 beers the brewers signed on as of this posting are as follows innis gunn signha beer keegan ales gilded otter peekskill brewery doc s hard cider staropramen thomas hooker spaten franziskaner stiegl goose island beer company the old burnside breweing company and alexander keith s all of these breweries represent different parts of the world and if your a beer enthusiast this is a perfect opportunity to try out different brews i will definitely be in attendance and you can expect a full assortment of reviews following shortly after the this review was fate i ve always heard of blue point but never tried it how fitting that the very first review i do on my blog just happens to be brewed in my birthplace of patchogue ny funny thing is i didn t even realize it until after downing my first one and then inspecting the bottle trying to find the of alcohol maybe this is a good sign let me set the scene for you memorial day bbq alice in chains on the ipod friends sun 90 degree heat and an iced cold blue point summer ale it really couldn t get any better than that simply put this beverage is awesome it s your typical light summer ale comparable to a sam adams summer ale or a harpoon summer ale the originality in the names is astounding blue point may not have the same billing as sam adams but it is just as good if not better again this is my first beer from blue point and i can t wait to try and review the others this summer ale is seasonal and is only available from april july according to the blue point website so yes i love this beer and will try it again i don t venture out to bars that often as i d rather buy a 6 pack for 7 10 rather than 2 beers at the bar for the same price but if i do find myself in a bar within the next couple of months and this is on tap you can bet your ass i m ordering one if you enjoy those light summery beers like the ones i mentioned above as well as corona landshark etc etc you can definitely not go wrong with this if you are in area or live on long island be sure to check out this brewery they offer tours and tastings at their tasting room located at 161 river ave patchogue ny hours are thurs fri from 3 7pm or saturdays from 12 7pm i will definitely be taking a saturday trip to go back to the place of my origin and check blue point brewing company out final rating 4 5 pints
