this year so sunday night our christmas eve we invited a few families over to eat dinner with us tow years now our traditional christmas eve dinner has been a variety of finger foods none of my kids complain about that after all our friends went home we talked and read luke 2 we take the time to each bear our testimonies it s not easy for the younger girls but it s good for them to get practice at sharing what they know to be true 7 00 am all 4 kids were wide awake and anxious to come downstairs baylee kept saying she thought santa forgot her i don t know why maybe she thought she was a little too rotten at times but as they all came down she was happy to see she was not forgotten we decided to change things up a little this year santa only leaves the stocking and 3 gifts after many many questions of why santa leaves sooo much for our kids why can t he leave any for other kids we decided santa can leave 3 gifts and the stocking but the rest of the gifts are from us i worried the kids may be a little sad to only see a few gifts by their stockings but i was worried for nothing they were all happy and excited with what they had each child had a couple gifts inside their stocking along with candy lexi got the bath and body works spray she s been wanting ashlee got the traditional bag of make up they get the christmas they are 11 carly got a new doll stand and 3 pairs of shoes for her american girl doll baylee got 6 necklaces in hers with our upcoming trip to las vegas we told the girls christmas would be smaller this year i think i like it small in the past they all seem a little overwhelmed with what to play with or use first this year there was no overwhelming chaos it was really calm lexi got a three outfits two pairs of boots vera bradley scripture case a new ctr ring ashlee got three outfits watches a kindle fire and a pair of boots carly got her beloved mckenna american girl doll a doll bed and matching clothes for her and her doll a dreamlite and an outfit along with a couple different toys for her other american girl doll baylee got a new scooter an outfit for her and her doll another outfit a dreamlite a baby doll a few things for her bitty baby and a doc mcstuffins doctor kit there are a few things i ve forgotten but those were their favorite things because we have a live tree we had to take that down before our trip that was a little depressing while i finished getting breakfast on the table darrell and the girls were taking ornaments down later darrell took the girls to their traditional movie while i stayed home and packed it was baylee s first time going to the movie she told darrell this tv is waaay bigger then ours we flew out at 9 05 and while waiting to check in at the airport a news man came up and asked if he could interview us i made darrell be the spokesperson i had no desire to do it three of our girls were so excited lexi on the other hand did not want to be we weren t ever able to see what aired we heard it was darrell talking and then they showed us waiting in line as a family but it was a fun experience anyway posted by darrell and alissa at 3 20 pm 1 comments wednesday december 19 2012 christmas is coming because i haven t been able to upload pictures to my blog it s been put on the very back burner but the more i put it off the more i have to update i have a bunch of links to kids concerts lexi has had many many choir concerts and performances and her winter band concert ashlee had her first orchestra concert i will admit it was much better then i thought it would be lexi and ashlee just had their piano recitals and did great it s not always enjoyable to listen to a child learn a new instrument sometimes it can be quite torturous but after a few months it s so fun to see and hear their improvement and then attend their concert and hear how well it all comes together carly just had her 8th birthday this little girl is growing up so quickly with her birthday being so close to christmas and our trip to las vegas for her baptism we were really struggling to figure out ideas for her party i had a crazy idea that it would be so cute to buy each of the party attenders pajamas as their take home gift instead of goody bags so after playing with that idea and talking to carly we came up with the great idea of a spa party a friend of mine loves to polish toes she holds monthly toe polish parties i asked her if i could pay her to polish the girls toes at the party and she was happy to do it next i got on pinterest cause that s what you do when you need ideas i found a good face mask for sensitive skin since they are kids after all and figured we could polish fingers too lexi and ashlee were able to invite a couple friends to come help with all the foot and hand soaking applying the mask and polishing fingers they had a lot of fun doing it and it left me free to take pictures of the girls they were sooo cute during the spa we only had time for one game before parents came it was a how well do you know carly type game i will list the questions and answers so you can all know carly a little better to 1 when is carly s birthday december 17 2 what is carly s favorite color purple wrong question the kids had to put a piece of bubble gum in their mouths it was so funny to watch them keep shoving more and more in baylee is baylee she s sweet 90 of the time and then quite sour the other 10 of the time i may or may not sometimes claim she s bipolar she s busy with dance preschool and playgroup each once a week registration starts soon for next years preschool it s such a bittersweet thing i know she will love it and i will love my free time but i m going to miss my little friend that goes everywhere with me i am starting to think it may be a little harder on my then i thought it would be darrell and i are busy being parents we love life love each other and love our kids since finding out about my mom having breast cancer it again has given us that little jolt of a reality check to remember what is most important my emotions are all over the place but through all my crazy emotions i know all will be fine i will keep trying to figure out how to change my blog to and onto the many links for kids things in october lexi had her all region s concert darrell and i have been shocked with her voice we had no idea she could really sing so we were in a huge state of year but by halloween we were ready lexi couldn t decide if she wanted to dress up or not so she decided she just wanted to wear a halloween shirt the night before halloween she changed her mind and wanted to be a nerd with a little scrambling we had her ready ashlee wanted to be a soldier or police officer when she saw the swat costume she was so excited she has decided she wants to like her uncle dustin when she grows up carly couldn t decide what she wanted to be cheerleader witch and then she saw the gypsy and wanted to that baylee really really really wanted to be izzy from jake and the neverland pirates but we could not find a costume in her size she was so sad but decided tinkerbell was a good second choice darrell s team at work was all rockstars he was bret michaels he totally looked like him bays was bothered that he had make up on we lost count of how many times she told he boys don t wear make up lexi and ashlee went trick or treating with different friends so i only had these two little girlies to take after trick or treating at the home office they had tons of candy already so we just did our block and they were happy to come home and pass out candy posted good things after a little incident today i decided to do a second blog it s a blog to my daughter s i want them to know so many of the things they go through are normal if you want to read it feel just grown up kids and we did crazy things too posted by darrell and alissa at 9 31 pm 0 comments sunday october 21 2012 the c word while darrell and i were in california i called my mom to get a recipe while we were talking she told me she had to go in for a biopsy from an abnormal mammogram my heart jumped into my throat but she seemed fairly confident that she would be fine i had it in the back of my mind all day saturday but kept thinking of my mom s peace she felt sunday morning i wasn t feeling as calm i know my mom she doesn t like anyone to worry about her she stresses and worries about people stressing and worrying about her through chris s mission farewell i was incredibly emotional all the thoughts of not wanting my mom to be having to go through this combined with chris s incredible song and talk mom told me she wouldn t get the results until the end of the week thursday my sister posted a status that made me think something was going on i called her and found out the results were back and it was indeed cancer i really really hate cancer after talking to my sister then another sister then another sister mom was working in the temple until 9 30 that night that s 11 30 our time and after spending the whole day crying i just couldn t stay awake any longer and i couldn t get a hold of her to talk to her her cancer is not far progressed it seems they caught it very very early it s called ductal carcinoma it s the most common form of breast cancer and one of the most treatable breast cancers all the facts make me feel better to know my mom will be fine she will not be taken from us because of this nasty c word but there are so many other thoughts i don t want my mom to have to worry about things it s my mom i don t want her to hurt or be sad it s been hard to watch her over the last almost 10 years after losing my dad she has said many times how much she misses him and wishes he would come and take her no my mom doesn t wish to die and leave all of us but my mom loves my dad so much and misses him terribly they met and married with in months of meeting each other they were each other s everything to watch my mom have to adjust to being a widow and kind of going through a find out who you are moment because losing a spouse changes you my mom is a protector after losing dad she felt she had to be strong for all of us kids she didn t want us to see how badly she was hurting because she knew it would make us so much sadder and then there were the selfish thoughts too she s my mom why her the thoughts and realizations that not only do i have to have early screenings for colon cancer now i have to also watch for signs of breast cancer i have 4 daughters this is now in our family history and can be passed down to any of them honestly the selfish thoughts aren t as frequent as the worrying about my mom thoughts it s a blessing to have so many kids and siblings but not when you have news like this and have to repeat it a thousand times she talked to me about dreading calling everyone and saying well i have breast cancer as a mom it is your natural instinct to shield you kids from things that will hurt them but she is now in the position to have to tell us something she knows will make each of us sad can you tell i m still processing everything from all my ramblings thursday and friday i felt like i was bipolar i knew mom would end up being ok and then 5 minutes later i d be crying and just so sad 10 years ago finding out dad had cancer and them losing him so quickly shook my world and now this has shaken it all over again even though i know all will be well my world is still turning and shaking i ve taken family for granted i love living here in arkansas but after the last 2 3 years i have been missing being closer to all of our family so much we live in an area that has so many members of our church we have great friends that i consider family but nothing can replace the real thing as much as i love living here i want to move and be closer to family darrell has a great job and that job is here so obviously we stay here but one day we hope to move at least a few states closer to our mom s it s so hard to miss so many family functions and gatherings but it s even harder to be away when something like this happens i love my mom she has always been such an incredible example to me of so many things i m so thankful she has been very regular with her yearly exams and that this has been caught early tuesday will bring a lot more answers for us she meets with the oncologist it will be nice to
