becky and i went on a short trip to morton minnesota why morton minnesota you say well we just needed to get a way for a little while also morton has jackpot junction a beautiful casino out in the middle of nowhere we also found it to have a great hiking park complete with waterfall and paved trails we also got to play several rounds of golf what more could anyone ask for well how about 25 ago a hackberry tree was planted in the southern part of wisner that tree lasted until today due to a split in the main trunk of the tree that threatened traffic on us 275 in front of the parsonage the tree had to come down when all was done the middle of the tree was actually hollow from rot and grubs which may also threaten the other trees in front of st paul lutheran church we hope not in that it is difficult to watch such a massive tree lose its life we ll also miss the shade that it provided however it was also the tree that blocked the way to us getting satilite tv it was that big riding with the patriot guard riders this motorcycle group has done much to honor our fallen heroes this day we were transporting the moving vietnam wall from omaha to the grand island nebraska veteran s home where it will be on display this summer the escort contained some 350 motorcycles from all over paying tribute to the men and women who were killed in vietnam although the speed at which we ride was quite intense riding at up to 85 mph at times it was both a privilege and an honor to ride with the guard receiving salutes cheers and waves from those who lined interstate 80 and all the roads leading into grand island i look forward to riding again with the guard this is now my second ride with them many thanks to willis and lorna hollman pastor rod armon and pastor stu burt missouri it was excellent great organization great food great fellowship with groups from texas iowa and illinois probably the best of the 16 servant events i ve been on enjoy the pictures click here from concordia seminary st louis and received a call to be the associate pastor of st paul lutheran church of boca raton florida however he chose to be ordained at st paul wisner i was given permission to do the ordination and i am a proud father the following link will take you to the pictures of the whole weekend including a trip to the zoo the baby shower for jess a time for shooting september 22 2009 trip to washington dc i just got back to wisner after a week long trip to our nations capital a good friend of mine who is pastor of a church in dc got married and i was able to attend pastor john f johnson and christine dennis tied the knot at mount olivet lutheran church in dc which is about 4 blocks away from the white house i flew into pittsburgh pennsylvania and drove over to dc with my friend pastor art litke it was a great week enjoy the pictures 2 comments posted in 1 posted by carretto3 july 31 2009 servant event in colorado what a week spy st paul youth which consisted of five kids and three counselors spent a week at lutheran valley retreat near woodland park colorado it was a tough week with a theme of fire mitigation five years ago the area had a fire and our job was to cut down the charred trees that were left and carry the logs to piles where they could be burned i found out very quickly that first of all there s not much air up at 8 000 feet but also that i don t do that kind of manual labor anymore it was hard enough to carry the logs much less do it on the side of a mountain but our kids and counselors were real workers and did a great job made many new friends and had a great time our youth counselors walt and saundra are retiring after this trip not because of the trip but because they ve been youth counselors for 30 years they ll carretto3 june 14 2009 tribute to bert carretto bert carretto april 29 1998 june 13 2009 what can you say about the perfect dog that s what bert was to us he was with us for 11 years and 3 days whenever we d come home he was always waiting for us at the door as if to say welcome home now please let me out he was even a perfect dog in his death we knew that he was fading fast his arthritis was really painful for him he was truly labored in his breathing we brought him to the vet and she said it was his heart but while we were dreading having to make the decision to put him to sleep on saturday evening he went outside to do his thing and then quietly laid down in the soft grass and was gone it s a very hard thing to lose a dog to death but he made it much easier on us his final resting place is a farm south of town between two tall trees we ll truly miss him enjoy the pictures of our companion and friend 5 comments posted in 1 posted by carretto3 may 19 2009 dog haircuts when becky and i returned from vacation we picked up our dogs from doggy motel and found that their hair was trimmed we asked to have them trimmed but the motel lady let s call her kim decided that
