about especially notorious individuals putting it all together to summarize everyone in an imperial position of power needs status this is what determines the pecking order non sith also need rank because that is what allows them to attain status while most sith have the sith power base advantage sith do not take rank non sith can have only one type of rank but should also have either rank or sith power base never both having levels in a sith s power base means serving your master is your full time job and you do not have the time to maintain active duty in another service you can retain your previous rank in such an organization as courtesy rank army navy and intelligence rank come with levels of legal enforcement powers while status comes with levels of legal immunity for sith only patrons can provide similar benefits as rank power base but having both gives you more options characters who have levels of rank or power base within their patron s command structure can order around other of their patron s underlings whereas they wouldn t be able to do so if they lacked the advantage trait purchasing checklist when creating a character first decide which position in society they occupy by consulting the status table do not buy that many levels of status yet though because you may get some levels imputed from rank power base and wealth these traits effectively give you a discount on your status they do not modify its level from the one indicated in the table for sith consult the arithmetic of rank table on gurps social engineering p 14 if you d like to have underlings to command and buy that many levels of sith power base for non sith consult the rank tables and purchase a level corresponding to your desired rank you may buy courtesy rank instead of full rank if you so desire this will give you no imputed status but still lets you have status corresponding to your rank after this purchase your desired level of wealth if any once you ve purchased your power base rank and or wealth see if you get any imputed status from them if so only spend character points on extra levels of status which are needed to reach your final desired level if you get no imputed status you must buy your status in full finally purchase legal enforcement powers or legal immunity as indicated by your army navy intelligence rank or status take a patron and duty as per the relevant guidelines examples moff pyron had lord kallig as his patron but also a duty towards him he retained his military rank and didn t take levels in kallig s sith power base because he did not cross over full time into lord kallig s service and couldn t command kallig s other minions kallig s own sith power base would have increased in level once pyron started serving him if pyron s span of control in the military was greater than kallig s span of control via his sith power base before that point in time the future emperor s wrath was depicted as having no levels in sith power base at least until he deposed baras yet he was still a sith lord with status 5 he was served by captain quinn and lieutenant pierce who both had active military rank the wrath was never depicted to have been 29 2024 09 29 chaoticgm leave a comment gumby bush from the gurps discord recently wrote up an adaptation of leech and absorption for use with innate attack with his permission i am reposting it here in its entirety charging 20 level your innate attack provides points like absorption on dr does for every 1 point of injury you deal to a foe you gain 1 point per level of this trait you may allocate this point to a single trait you can store a maximum number of points equal to your maximum injury assuming the default wounding modifier for your ability x your level of this trait you lose unused points at a rate of 1 second you may extend the use to further traits for up to 9 traits multiply the value of the modifier by the number of traits you can spend the points on for 10 or more traits the value of the modifier is a flat 200 level charge healing 140 or 200 level immediately after charging up points you may use them to heal hp fp or any er you have this costs the usual 2 points hp or 3 points fp or er you may not save points to heal hp fp or er later unless you also have charging the value of this modifier is 140 if you can only heal one of your resources 200 if you can heal any of them levels after the first allow you to charge points relatively faster as usual with charging thus charge healing hp only 2 280 allows healing 1 hp per point of injury inflicted on your foe under the hood going through the steps from absorption revised we just replace the 20 it uses for only when damaged with the modifier only when inflicting injury and run the same math say 10 here assume the modifier we need to calculate will be applied to a 5 point die innate attack and assume the higher prices of others account for better wounding modifiers that s 0 3 per point on a 5 point die ability if we make points average injury that s 3 5 0 3 1 05 so 20 level cap of points equal to average injury similarly charge healing is adjusted to cost the same amount relative to hp and fp when applied to a 5 point die innate attack as for absorption revised gumby further unpacks charge healing for this post in pk s absorption revised the modifier is 40 for one 60 for both and thus adds 2 points per point or 3 points per point of damage convertible directly to the resource hp or fp multiplying these values by x3 5 and rounding gives us the 140 200 i list 210 would be the technical result but 200 is prettier it is probably also worth flagging pk s use of extended duration for absorption revised as being applicable for charging to make points drain more slowly too i think it is also worth flagging that using charge healing in the same game as leech may produce odd results the biggest difference is that leech inflicts straight injury not a typed damage while charge healing can benefit from wounding modifiers obviously pricing won t match since each level of a charging attack costs the same amount while leech s first level costs more than subsequent ones uncategorized character squad proceeded further down the tunnels soon they found a large three way junction which was full of charred alien corpses and other signs of battle a tunnel branched off to the west and another straight across the junction to the north the operators entered from the south at the northern exit they found the remains of thermobaric zarl the brute reptoid boron squad heavy weapons and demolitions specialist m2 recovered his bodycam footage which revealed that he made a last stand here to buy the rest of his squad time to withdraw from the alien swarm m2 then attempted to contact any boron squad survivors via radio and succeeded three of them were holed up in a freight elevator through the facility north of the junction that s where trauma squad went next they left zarl s remains here to recover them later in the tunnel leading north the team once again heard the sounds which last time heralded the alien swarm this time they all prepared properly taking cover behind a corner and some support beams next to it alien hordelings started pouring from around another corner to the south and the team started mowing them down there were a couple dozen all in all with the operators dispatching about half of those appearing each second after a couple seconds the hordelings reached the team but no more of them appeared just four more spitters which took positions behind cover and started aiming luckily they were far enough to land only a couple of hits at the operators who dodged them while taking out the remaining hordelings in the end the spitters fell as well trauma squad was unscathed and simply proceeded further they found another small bio lab heinrich determined that this one focused on mental conditioning and rapid sleep learning for cloning applications whereas the first one researched tissue engineering and cloning itself past the lab there was a large blast door which the boron squad survivors sabotaged on their way through to prevent the aliens from following them trauma squad blew open a hole in it on the other side there was another seemingly residential section of the facility and at its end the freight elevator where boron squad was holed up there the operators found alx chloe and rush all were severely injured and couldn t climb the depowered elevator s shaft to seek another exit it wouldn t have mattered though because m2 sent his gemini drone up and it reported a cave in as heinrich and link started treating boron squad they briefed trauma on the situation apparently the third tunnel in the central junction led to a large laboratory emilia rosenbaum boron s science officer and john hippocrates their medic were investigating it while the rest of the squad went to haul supplies from the makeshift camp on the side of the facility they entered through when they returned the aliens started emerging from pods in the lab killing emilia on the spot the rest of the squad retreated except for john who got separated from the others none of the survivors are sure how that happened though it seemed that the aliens completely ignored him boron squad attempted to retreat the same way they came in but got cut off by the heavily armored turrets in the first bio lab hearing the alien swarm behind them they decided to return towards the junction and fight just the aliens instead of both the aliens and the turrets the rest of their story matched what trauma squad already knew considering their options the two teams decided that the still heavily injured but patched up boron squad is fit enough to recover zarl s remains and retreat to the outside on their own after parting ways trauma squad set out to find john and emilia s remains in the main lab as they approached its entrance m2 noted that the disturbance which made radiocommunications in the facility difficult was in fact coming from the lab they opened the door which was unlocked very carefully and m2 sent gemini in to take a look there was nothing moving inside the 20 yard diameter lab just a bunch of alien corpses various scientific equipment and pods along the walls and floors which presumably contained the aliens trauma squad entered and carefully looked for the main control station they found it at the opposite end of the lab on a raised platform they activated the console and started looking for research data but also for a kill switch which would terminate aliens in all of the pods if any still remained as they were doing this one of the pods near them opened and link fired several shotgun slugs into it out emerged john stopping the slugs with a psionic force shield he seemed physically changed and greeted trauma squad answering their questions he explained how the aliens from the pods ignored him which allowed him to explore the lab after the rest of his squad ran away he put emilia s corpse into one of the pods as the technology within could revive her then he himself went to be uplifted he offered to prepare the pods to do the same with trauma squad if they so desired heinrich was quite intrigued by the possibilities and asked john what exactly this uplifting entailed but also tried to discretely prod him into revealing if the pod put him under the masters control john answered that he wasn t controlled by them but the party got the impression he was not telling the whole truth as heinrich got john to explain the details of the uplifting process link sneaked up to john and injected him with a large dose of knockout drugs at the same moment m2 engaged the kill switch which he
