plane to texas and that s an order he gets to say it twice joe don keeps bellowing insisting that he be given ten minutes with the bartender to get whatever information that guy might have to which mr wilson can only respond as programmed with the words i want you on the next plane to texas and that s an order joe don falls back once again on the fact that he doesn t work for him or the immigration department however joe don fails to recall that he was temporarily assigned to work under mr wilson s command but when mr wilson tries to get joe don to hand over his id that ain t happening joe don just walks right out on him i m surprised he doesn t put him on charges can he do that in malta let s not even get into choice of law applied to the case let alone the choice of venue forget i said that quickly we cut to scenes of mr palermo on his boat enjoying the company of half naked women he s all happy now he thinks geronimo is dead but geronimo was nursed back to health by the woman mother aunt sister daughter mr p remains blissfully unaware of that development as he removes another woman s top we hear the lamest background music like revolution no 9 as performed by liberace as film leave a comment my review of following 1998 posted on july 16 2026 by debbi hello take two of my review of christopher nolan s directorial debut film following this is a film from 1998 part of the 90s indie film movement i guess if you will this was made on an extremely low budget with volunteers friends and family involved in every step of the way and in any event the story is pretty much a typical kind of film noir set up the protagonist is a guy who s kind of a loser he doesn t seem to have much in the way of employment you don t see him at a job he just sort of follows people around and he says he wants to be a writer i think he wants to be a writer although at one point he says no i m not a writer to somebody but then that s like a lot of writers a lot of writers don t want to talk about they re embarrassed or something when they start out doing this stuff and they don t want to call themselves writers i don t know anyway so he wants to be a writer i think and he s following people around and he has rules about it and he breaks one of his rules which is to never follow the same person twice well of course when you do that that ends up becoming stalking doesn t it and he gets sucked into a situation in which he s screwed basically it s a basic noir plot is what i m saying so that is interesting in itself that he took this basic noir plot and made it interesting by fiddling with the timeline with the narrative structure so it s cool i like it it s like okay this is a typical thing i m always kind of looking for something different but this is different in a different way so i think to say that this is setting him up for memento yes definitely i thought it s a good movie it s a short movie it s 70 minutes and he made this 70 minute movie just in like 15 minute sessions apparently on weekends and it took months years maybe maybe not years but certainly took months for him to film i don t know how long it took him to edit but he was on such a lean budget that he didn t have an excess of footage let s put it that way and this involved people getting together and rehearsing extensively beforehand so that he could keep it down to one or two takes because that s time consuming and who needs that so anyway so yeah i did like this movie a lot and i really appreciate that it s 70 minutes because i think too many movies these days go on for way too long and so just so i m not going on for way too long i will stop here okay then i enjoyed the movie i would recommend it to anybody who likes film noir who likes neo noir who likes just movies in general because it s just an extraordinary feat that this movie was made and it s good as it is that s all i have to say be seeing you directed by christopher nolan written by four posted on july 11 2026 by debbi when we last left off a woman was giving confession to a fake monk so loudly you could probably hear it all the way from malta to vatican city the ruckus finally gets geronimo s attention but he quickly looks elsewhere for god knows what as he and ms malta look around one part of the church mr palermo the fake monk makes his way toward the exit geronimo finally notices again and yells hold it pal mr palermo won t follow orders from the texas rangers especially one that killed his brother so mr palermo beats feet and runs straight out the door this leads to a big long chase the chase takes joe don and ms malta on a merry tour of a marina or a port or whatever you call the thing with boats docked near buildings and metal structures for future buildings or boat storage or whatever clearly i don t know a thing about boats as geronimo goes after mr palermo ms malta cries out hold on in response he says why we re both outta bullets geronimo then goes after mr palermo following him to a place that looks like either the stern of boat or maybe the upper level of a big boat i honestly haven t the faintest notion and it really wasn t worth my time to figure it out anyhow mr palermo hides in a very obvious place which joe don manages to overlook then mr palermo sneaks up on joe don and nearly strangles him until ms malta shows up and having failed as a pitcher shows her ability to use a bat to defend joe don from mr palermo s deadly attack a few whacks from her and mr p scampers off like a little girl scarpers so geronimo gives chase hopping from pier to boat to pier again in pursuit of the wily mr palermo they each manage to commandeer inflatable speedboats so they can chase each other across the water many minutes are consumed with scenes of steering back and forth across the waves and geronimo pursuing mr palermo with grim determination eventually the filmmakers realized that watching these boaters cavorting would eventually get old came to their senses and had geronimo aim his boat to create a t bone crash that sent the conveyance up and on top of mr palermo s craft they then engage in the usual fist fight and as usual mr p demonstrates the old maxim the bigger they are the harder they fall and then in a slam cut to a new scene at mr big s hacienda mr palermo begs and pleads with mr big to give him 24 hours to get geronimo that s all i m asking he whines says mr big isn t so sure of mr p and his abilities seems he might be losing his touch meanwhile geronimo is back in front of the head of the malta police who makes the following statements you are a walking disaster area you use our country like your own private shooting range i m from the government and i m here to help he adds a few more statements of that kind all geronimo can say is i still think i can help you guys clearly geronimo is unable to take a hint determined beyond all reason to help these guys en route to ostensibly providing more help geronimo explains that none of this can end well because he killed mr p s brother after palermo had killed his ex partner donut bob these amount to irreconcilable differences wherein each has an irresistible force that meets an unmovable person so someone s gotta die and it s not gonna be the star who may or may not be the oaf who created this whole mess whether the oaf is joe don or mr palermo or a third party i ll let you decide so despite the fact that he s been ordered again to back off joe don proceeds toward the bar in the dungeon of half dressed women and orders a glass of milk this is his signature drink an order he tosses off with the casual air that james bond would use to order a martini shaken not stirred this creates quite a stir in the bar when one of the patrons mocks geronimo openly for his choice of drink this leads of course to a huge bar fight which sends ms malta running for reinforcements the soundtrack turns the whole thing into a music video about a bar fight the head of the malta police appears once again and informs joe don that ms malta has been reassigned i guess she was not ready for this assignment the top cop of malta tells geronimo who tries without success to defend her and recommend her for a medal for trying but the maltese cop ain t hearing it he issues geronimo an ultimatum your plane leaves in less than 10 hours he suggests strongly again that geronimo be on that plane he advises him to go back to his hotel until the flight leaves your hotel or your cell the cop says we see geronimo at the hotel briefly to
