ction well you can read it here i was so shocked by the nonsense i took three days to blog about it alan tyers tweet on that page has been reinforced a million times over this year https twitter com alantyers status 430783842535108609 i hope that came out if not click the link however while people froth at the mouth over the hiring of kp for the latter stages of the world cup and yes we ve been called chavs for liking the bloke as a cricketer which is really really classy the big picture is almost deliberately being missed as i ve said a ton of times on here the sacking of kp became less about kp and more about those doing the firing it then became even more about those in power and how they were being reported journalists took their clear dislike of a player and sided with the ecb despite the fact the decision was made with no rationale made public by a bloke new to the job and with the evidence rather tainted against dismissal than for it hence me ole mucker lawrence s comment about egg and spoon races doing my head in you can t single out kp for bad form when they all failed and when he failed less badly than others so when the justification for the sacking was not forthcoming the issue became less about the how of the sacking but of the why the light shone on downton the man who made the brave decision he decided the best tactic was to say nothing given what he does say in public when he is allowed out this is probably his shrewdest move better to stay silent and let us think you are incompetent than open your mouth and confirm it beyond all reasonable doubt because if anyone has to go for poor form in their role it is this clown downton s continued occupation of a role he has been a disaster in is an insult to all england fans except so few of them care that they d only ever object if the role was given to pietersen i ve been following some of the tweets today and looked at a couple of the responses btl it s been the same old same old but a meme now making waves is the one that we should just shut up because this issue bores some people we whine too much of course most of these people think that we want kp back in the team some do not me not now but because the career was trashed i want to see people who made the decision held up to scrutiny by the fans if you are happy with the way england cricket is run then good luck to you because i don t i could fisk this unutterable bollocks but i just can t be arsed there are some beauties in there seven of the ten test selections have made a contribution he boasts well let s look at that unmitigated success gary ballance very good punt and got fortunate moeen ali should have picked him earlier jos buttler we won t forget matt prior having to be prised away i m sorry but i m struggling now broad anderson bell root and cook are the senior pros now the other seven test debutants and he uses the 18 months rule which goes back before this man started are stokes downhill fast borthwick desperate and not to be seen again robson one century more than cook in 2014 but believed to be on the way out jordan incredibly inconsistent woakes not exactly set the world on fire in tests boyd rankin that went well and simon kerrigan this isn t anything to crow about but this clown does most have struggled a couple have done well a couple have done ok downton s making it sound like a whole new team then there s cook downton is actually having the balls to pat himself on the back for the decision this smacks of a bloke who hears there s a forecast for a long spell of heavy rain goes out without a coat and umbrella gets soaked stays out in it and just as the sun threatens over the horizon he buys an umbrella then congratulates himself that he bought shade from the sun can t people see this clown is a joke he can t deliver a live interview without cocking it up he s legally trained and broke a confidentiality agreement he s a businessman who alienates his customers with ridiculous comments if you have any doubt where outside cricket might have come from check out downton s entry in the 1985 cricketer s who s who from paul downton s entry in cricketers who s who 1985 his backing then sacking of cook was such an exercise in bungling that i thought george and zippy might turn up at any moment and all the while he keeps telling us things are terrific speaks like one of those we all meet with that air of superiority disguised under some false bonhomie and has never ever apologised for the insult to fans he and the pca authored more of that on february 9th which forever will be outside cricket day on this blog the press think he s a joke a lot of supporters think he s a joke i d be interested to hear what alastair cook thinks of him if he ever was allowed to comment on this man no instead of aiming your fire at a player who made 8181 test runs played some of the greatest innings i ve ever seen by an england batsman who i would pay to watch who served us bloody well you should be aiming it at the bloke who thinks you you are not worthy of a straight conversation i don t want to get too political but letting downton off is the same sort of behaviour and subjugation that allows us all to let those who induced the financial crisis to remain in clover while we suffer austerity kp s a great lightning rod for the ecb as they sold the game s future to sky while participation levels drop and see maxie s excellent well researched detailed piece on tft and sold its soul in a revenue grab so brazen that i m not sure even the premier league our football would have tried that keep aiming your fire at kp and ignore the world game i wonder who richardson had in mind when he talked about people thinking the game was run by cynical businessmen the carve up over colin graves doesn t look cynical in the least the blog got just short of 250 000 hits since the sacking at current rate i ll be looking at nearer 300 000 per year and i m not posting anywhere near as much stuff i m like all out there be you pro or anti kp i love the sport i love it so much i write about it for free in my own time you think i d do this if i was just looking for trouble looking for a writing gig wanting attention i stand by all i wrote that day in august i m thankful for what he did for my team i still am a man that history and performance over the last year has showed to be totally unfit to make such a decision is still in post that s what we should be angry about never mind he s from the right kind of family and the right kind of business that s ok genuflect before his genius tug your forelock for his foresight lick his boots for his brilliance have a good night posted in cricket opinion dmitri rants about cricket england the ecb tagged ecb english clowns board kp outside cricket silent downton 55 comments february 4 2015 happy kp termination day a year ago today kp was given his marching orders a new order was put in place and kp couldn t be a part of it this had a number of effects and for me changed my blogging life to commemorate mr downton has spoken it s the usual stuff and i ll be all over it this evening to celebrate tms has appointed kp as a co commentator for the latter stages of the world cup with the predictable results from the btl in the guardian i will be drafting a post in my head and putting my thoughts down later posted in england tagged kp silent downton 42 comments february 1 2015 so what do we think about this then i d be lying if i said i d seen a lot of the tri series you all know that odi cricket isn t my thing and normally i d have paid little attention but there are a couple of things that can t be let go i don t buy that england have always been useless at odi cricket we got to a champions trophy final twice in the last 12 years and outside the sub continent we have no real excuse to be poor if we have this mindset then we might as well not bother the tri series is the culmination of our preparation for the world cup now we must not forget that we have cleared the decks of test cricket got a programme for 2015 16 that is the unfair side of brutal and we re going to go into the next world cup as the best prepared in history we haven t played an ashes before it that should not be forgotten either since the end of the summer there has been progress the obvious one was the dismissal of the captain at the end of the sri lanka tour that it took so long has appalled us all on here but it was a necessary decision taken i m not giving credit to any of those who made it the bosses will pat themselves on the back if it all works out but at the end of the day it s a bit like congratulating yourself for taking an umbrella out when it s raining there is a formulation of a game plan there s a bit more purpose and we ve seen some decent individual batting performances but there has also been a propensity to ship early wickets of the five games we played three contained worrying collapses and that s not something teams who have an idea of winning can do australia do look strong at home and aren t afraid of favouritism status and england came close to beating them once they also worried them in the final but there needed to be a win one senses for england to truly believe the bowling is a bit samey but there s not a lot we can do about that at the end of the day there isn t exactly anyone else crying out for inclusion chris jordan doesn t look like someone who is going to be reliable the reserves have either not put a convincing case nor given a chance and so we have our plucky old stagers broad and anderson a risk in finn and woakes who had been mr reliable before his disastrous final as for spin i m not sure what tredwell is doing there if they can t trust him to bowl in australia moeen ali s improvement is a source of great joy but it s placing a lot of responsibility on him and we need an opener who is not distracted we need good starts if this means we play one spinner and moeen is put down the order so be it that s why i seriously thought we needed to give all our squad a game in the tri series then again it s easy to say that in hindsight so to the batting let s ignore the kp question it serves no purpose ian bell has cemented his place at the top of the order and i know moeen ali is now set in stone there i just don t think it s a great idea james taylor is the number 3 and has made it his own but i m with mark butcher on this one in that i m not just sure he s the right man for the job but he s there he s had a promising start and played a great innings against india it s nice to see someone take their place and at least show signs of not being overawed joe root is not a problem and jos buttler is our x factor who i d love to see higher than 7 but that s not happening unless we drop the great conundrum eoin morgan took the reins and made a hundred in the first game but people are still worried about him i m not sure if there s some underlying resentment at his nationality of birth or that there s a real worry about his form in the long term i ve seen one call him a traitor already for choosing to apply for the ipl he made the mistake last year of not doing so he has been in bad form but he s also one of the few players capable of playing that innings in sydney and there aren t many of them in county cricket as for ravi if he s not bowling is he in the top six odi batsmen in the country well on form probably not there are calls to get gary ballance in the team proving the old adage that you become a much better player when you don t play this is the ballance who was accused of being one paced before the jos buttler barrage at lord s i m not actually against this approach but let s not pretend ballance is knocking the door down here this would be a default selection he s been injured he s not played an international game for months and we expect this to work i d be interested in your views although i know some of them already on how you saw the tri series in other news i opened up the latest edition of the cricketer to see this at the bottom of the simon hughes column i think this isn t very becoming of what is supposed to be an authority of the sport maybe i m being a bit po faced and yes i found the cartoon s author to be extremely amusing but i don t know didn t seem right to me anyway world cup beckons and we need to have some discussions beforehand i ll do what i can in the next week or so but something i ve been working on for nearly a year is reaching its conclusion have a good week thanks for all the comments posted in 2015 world cup australia england odi tagged bopara eoin morgan moeen ali tri series 2015 95 comments january 31 2015 the tri series final australia v england there s a trophy on the line and england are in the shake up the excitement is tangible the expectation for a great contest in perth is enormous oh ok it s like one of those pre season football tournaments given a fancy name and the preserve of big clubs only messages thus far are that australia are probably as good as we expected them to be the indians worse than we expected and ourselves on an improving trend but with too many flaws at this stage but flawed teams can be dangerous and the one thing that shone through from that win on friday was the resilience that seems to be imbued in this team and which was shown in the first game when they still managed to get to a half decent score despite being 0 for 2 i m sorry i ve been a bit awol this week it s been tough work is horrendously busy by our standards i m knackered from the commute and as much as i love you all i haven t the energy to read more unadulterated bollocks from selfey newman et al i may sound impolite but when you have had enough you ve had enough anyone see the cartoon on the editorial page of the cricketer this month that s real classy i ll write something up tomorrow thanks
