the gambas ide and related packages there are several ways to do this you can install gambas through your package manager or you can compile from source there is plenty of information on how to install either way an optional way to install and use gambas is to install gambos either on an unused computer or laptop or on a vm virtual machine gambos is an all in one operating system that is based on teaching a newcomer to programming in gambas you can register and ask questions in our forum about gambas gambos or linux blogs i use sqlite in most of my application projects and also use a small amount of mysql when required but to be honest it would be like using a nuclear reactor to boil an egg for most of requirements i subscribe to a mailing list run by jenny muralidharan on the sqlite forum and while some of it is a bit over my head i ve picked up some great tips on on a great range of sqlite subjects i don t have many big databases mine are around 5 10mb but i know that some gambas users especially those who are using it for commercial purposes may have significantly alongside gambas i have a set of linux applications that if not critical are ones that i use constantly in my programming endevours i m a fantasy writer and have written my own editor in gambas so i do use a lot of external applications to provide functions alongside the process of writing thesaurus spelling and so on it does a lot more but that s a blog for another time general applications xdg utils this is a utility application set that tends to be provided with most linux why use a shared memory heap approach rather than using sockets or pipes i would also say signals but with the shared memory heap library signals are used to create the events when an application requests to be notified when a variable symbol changes is created or deleted at the base level of the library when polling or waiting on a queue there is no delay except for the semaphore that protects queues and variables symbols even locking can be turned off the main reason to use shared memory heaps is performance the exchange of information in the tone of using shared heaps in a gambas application i have attached a couple of examples one of which is a tool for monitoring the available heap variables in real time in order to make the process of using the library a little easier i have updated the farm version to 2 2 6 cleaning up a few of the examples if your interested in following along with the next few blog posts it would be good to update to the newer version it requires gambas 3 20 or later
