mostly because my girl sasha waybright only gets the one solo episode in season 3 and most of the potential development and characterization we could ve seen from both marcy and sasha is instead filled with damn earth shenanigans my obsession with sasha waybright only hounds me to further search for more sasha centric fics of her on ao3 and even commission short stories art about her during season 3a in the future autie j answered amphibia is such a frustrating show for me marcy wu is one of my favorite characters ever but amphibia is not season 1 is okay season 2 was the best the show ever got with an amazing season finale and season 3 was pretty bad imo instead of doing anything of substance especially with marcy and sasha the show s two most interesting characters we got endless plantar wacky earth shenanigans and the awful season 3 sprivy episode season 3 could have been so good if it focused less on the shenanigans and actually did something with marcy and sasha s character arcs it really didn t help that a season of tv as good as season 2 of the owl house was airing right afterwards made it look bad by comparison for sasha fics she gets a lot of screen time in season two of the arcanist marcy au fic series i really love that fanfic series in a lot of ways i enjoy it more than canon ofekma for me the worst part is that it isn t just a writing preference like if the writers thought well marcy and sahsa are cool but this isn t their story it s anne s and by proxy the planters so that s who we re going to prioritize giving focus to i wouldn t like it but i d get it your story your rules dude the worst part tho is that marcy s complete lack of screentime in season three isn t an unfortunate side effect of we can t write everyone all the time we only have so much screentime it s that it s a punishment i can t even begin to unpack just how wrong and messed up this paragraph is autie j i had not seen that but it really drives home marcy being the narratives punching bag hughjidiot i recognize matt s answer to my question as the guy who asked why they went the possession route i do in fact disagree with matt in fact i think it s probably the single biggest flaw in the entire series that i would go so far as to say drags down the narrative as a whole true colors was essentially rock bottom for sasha and marcy where they got to face the full consequences of their actions and refusal to accept change for as little screentime as she had sasha at least got to keep her agency as a character and have an arc of actual growth and better herself as a person with marcy they were like eh let s just torture her and call it a day besides she deserves it for thinking she was the main character autie j oh totally marcy s possession arc robbed her of having an actual character arc like sasha did and they didn t even fo anything interesting with it hughjidiot god tell me about it you know i might ve been slightly more forgiving of marcy s possession if the show had actually you know done something interesting with darcy instead we lost out on marcy having any meaningful role in the narrative and natural character development and all we got was a single fight scene with sasha and grime autie j yeah darcy is really built up and it all amounts to basically nothing ofekma darcy is such a w a s t e what we got didn t even come close to justifying fridging marcy for a whole season especially since darcy didn t do shit until the final even if darcy would have been more active in the plot i d have taken more marcy over that any day now but the fact that they took away marcy without even having her replacement do anything meaningful adds an insult to injury because darcy was only revealed in the season final the girls didn t even get time to process the horror of it nor to let what darcy said about them being bad friends truly sink in we had to make due with looking at sasha s facial expressions throughout the episode in order to see that she s going through any sort of change in perspective which is also very easy to miss considering everything else that was going on that episode sasha realizing she was a bad friend to marcy and learning to forgive her but not apologize herself isn t even the c plot it s more like the z plot of this episode sasha and anne repressed thinking about her for the entire season and then they rushed it marcy didn t even know what her body was doing with darcy in control which takes away so much of the horror in possession stories the helplessness the terror trying to fight it wether you succeed or not the aftermath where you look in the mirror and feel violated and used darcy calling out sasha and anne for being bad friends to marcy felt obligatory she should have twisted the knife she should have cited examples she should have tried to act more like marcy to unsettle them to make them more hesitate to attack because they can t hurt marcy oh wait they already have she should have said that marcy is so much happier like this that she s with people who truly understand her that if they care about her they d let it happen even if it s a complete lie it still throws in their faces just how much they messed up instead darcy is used purely as sasha s twisted reflection and her need for control it s a foe that can make her yell i m not that person anymore with darcy controlling andrias mirroring the way she controlled anne and that s good anne and sasha defeated wrapped versions of f themselves to prove they changed was a good thing but the same effect could have been used with the core having a robot as a host not marcy because darcy didn t focus on the fact that it s using marcy as a puppet it focused on the fact that it s controlling andrias the reason why the fight against darcy barely touched marcy at all is because marcy had her own battle in the mindscape but it didn t even come close to what anne and sasha had it wasn t a glorious triumph that saved the world it was a sacrifice it was her truly loved internalizing shame making marcy dissapear after true colros also stopped the three from having a meaningful conversation about everything that happened the half ass speech anne gave marcy about accepting change didn t feel like what marcy needed to hear it was what the narrative needed anne to say it was like dora the explorer looking at the audience and telling them that you shouldn t be like swiper because swiping is bad hughjidiot god there was so much wasted potential with darcy during that first confrontation in the throne room i was honestly hoping darcy would thank anne for leaving newtopia to stay with the plantars since leaving marcy alone like that left her in the perfect mental state for andrias to get his hooks into her and since you brought it up you know what i also think might ve made marcy s possession more tolerable if she d somehow fought back while she was trapped in the mindscape not enough to break the possession on her own but enough to distract darcy and provide sasha with a critical opening again it wouldn t be much but that would at least have given marcy some minor hint of agency as a the reason i don t think jax is a well written character is because he feels like two separate characters that goose had trouble deciding between it s almost how i feel about kuvira from lok but worse kuvira forcibly took over the earth kingdom because it was failing without a leader she wanted to save people her people she was relatable for the most part and then it felt like they ran out of ideas to keep tension in the fight and made the decision to have her try to kill her partner which they had already made very clear she loved him and would do anything for him it was out of character but it was just that one moment but jax is worse because his decisions aren t just out of character and he has way more moments like that than kuvira it feels like a whole separate character completely because of how much they conflict with his established character there s the first version of jax who got really hurt when ribbit and kaufmo abstracted he uses humor to cope with his feelings and is never genuine with anyone because he s afraid of getting close to them he s mean and teases the others to keep them away from him he chooses to be lonely because he doesn t want to be hurt and he doesn t want to hurt others then the second version where he intentionally causes harm to the people he is secretly supposed to care about he crosses the line from being mean or teasing he goes into abusive territory especially towards ragatha and gangle it s not just verbal abuse either but also physical pushing gangle down ep1 throwing ragatha into deep fryer ep4 overkilling ragatha in ep 6 etc and mental gaslighting pomni in ep6 triggering ragatha s phobia in ep1 and other episodes blackmailing gangle in ep2 and ep5 etc the show s writing only seems to think that the first version of jax exists which is why pomni is still friends with him and the others aren t upset about it it s also why pomni seems to not care about his actions and is an apologist for him and what he s done and that s the main reason why so many people are upset about jax s character and the past few episodes of the show the writing keeps trying to spoon feed us the fact that we should care about jax but we don t
