calloused to the desires and needs of others not only do they neglect god they are totally oblivious of him and have no fear of him and they convince themselves that this is life that the world spins around them and they must satiate their own desires regardless of the hurt it causes others and yet your all pervading love o god which extends far beyond the dimensions of our conscious lives includes even these distorted people who spurn you in exchange for twisted self centered lives your eternal love in beyond comprehension no wonder your children constantly reach for it and find ii chronicles 16 9 the story of king asa king of judah david s great great great grandson is a bright spot in the history of god s people yet it is tarnished and flawed because great as asa was he was a sinful human being whenever asa trusted wholeheartedly in god to lead him in battle he met with success against great odds but in asa s latter years his faith in god waned he sought out and depended upon an earthly alliance to protect him from israel s king who threatened the kingdom asa had ruled for 39 peaceful years asa took much gold from the temple gave it to the king of syria and said help me the syrian king happily did so the threat from israel was abated and asa had peace an earthly peace brokered by an earthly king but peace from god was lost harsh words came asa s way as a result in luke peter s three time denial of his lord is heartbreaking to read about especially at the moment when as the rooster crows and jesus turns towards him makes eye contact and looks at him what was jesus saying with this look that he gave peter i told you so peter why peter don t you love me peter even you peter or i love you peter remember the words i spoke to you tonight peter i have prayed that your faith may not fail i will not forsake you nor hold this against you or maybe all of the above peter wept bitterly and his soul was in anguish as he recalled jesus s look and of his own
