is a critical realist study on how the rcrp programme remediates lessons learned after mental health police contact deaths by examining hm coroners preventing future death reports my latest post we have some issues with what counts as a death after police contact and how they are counted click here to learn how to navigate the site including its most useful operational resources or open up the menu in the top right corner of this page it s been used over three million times around the world and led to a job for me working full time on the issues i write about a chance to influence the laws policies and policing across the united kingdom and the chance to work abroad representing the uk to other countries how exciting is that i now spend my time as a criminology lecturer expert witness trainer and researcher attempting to expand the evidence base on policing mental health and criminal justice best of luck to those of you now trying to navigate the interface of policing mental health and criminal justice from various perspectives it could hardly be more complex and impenetrable and the current tendency is to massively over simplify things professor jill peay observed work done at the interface of mental health and criminal justice is as complex as any you ll find and the police can t fix this for us michael i try to keep this blog up to date but inevitably over time amendments to the law as well as court rulings and other findings from inquests and complaints processes mean it is difficult to ensure all the articles and pages remain absolutely accurate and current in particular hyperlinks used in some posts can fail over time as other organisations change their websites please ensure you check your legal issues take appropriate advice where necessary this blog was never official anything and i m not a lawyer or a doctor it s just my own stuff based on some working knowledge and i ve always felt a little like i m making it up as i go i ve worked hard to do that seriously and responsibly but i m neither legally nor clinically qualified government legislation website www legislation gov uk all opinions expressed are my own they do not represent the views of any organisation c michael brown 2026 i am not a police officer blog at wordpress com subscribe subscribed mental health cop join 2 711 other subscribers sign me up already have a wordpress com
