the petersons and our efforts to survive tuesday january 14 2014 dinner s ready during dinnertime it s usually just me and the kids it s a time of day where i learn some pretty funny things about my kids and their lives today maddox arrived for dinner first he came upstairs and walked right passed his high chair he instead grabbed a stool and pushed it up to the counter my chair mama no mo lil chair it was his way of telling me that he was done sitting in the high chair he wanted to sit by his sisters he then proceeded to tell me that i need big fook an big cup as opposed to a baby fork and sippy cup holynd came up next the first thing she said to me was do i like this dinner yes you ve had this before and you like it i have to hurry and eat my show is paused and i want to finish it okay what are you watching she skips over my question completely mom did you know that zack didn t like the way you smelled yesterday i told him it was your lotion he still didn t like it no i did not know that thank you for telling me sloane was the last to arrive at the table i don t wanna say the prayer today make holynd say it sometimes i don t want to talk to jesus the prayer is given by holynd afterwards sloane tells me that there is a mean boy in my class i don t like him i m sorry there s a mean boy what does he do that makes him mean he doesn t like my backpack maddox then decides he needs to add to the conversation by saying what s that mama 45 times which is then followed by a fake burp and an cuse me mama after everyone has finished eating we have a lengthy discussion about whether the kids want to take a shower or have a bathtub that night maddox really wants his little voice to be heard so he continually shouts i wannnnaaa tuuuub tuuuuuuuubbbbbbbbb while the girls argue over what they want to do holynd realizes that she still wants to finish her show and runs downstairs before a verdict is ever decided upon sloane follows while yelling what the heck holynd you re too fast maddox remains mama you clean up yes buddy mama is going to clean up maddox continues to sit on his stool he s still so enamored by sitting in a regular seat that he s in no hurry to leave he slowly picks at his rice and keeps repeating more rice yes peeze every time he takes a bite right on schedule bennett wakes up maddox s little head perks up and he says my baby bother awake and runs into the other room bennett is far from being very entertaining for a child maddox s age but maddox gets excited every time he hears bennett mealtime is going to change greatly through the years pretty soon their problems are going to be much bigger than a little boy not liking their backpack and what my lotion smells like or that fact that they just want a tuuuuuuuubbbb tuuuuuuubbbbbbb for pete s sake i ll savor this while it lasts posted by m t peterson at 5 26 pm 1 comment sunday january 12 2014 we want to go it gets a little rough keeping things interesting around here during the winter wait scratch that the kids always find ways to stay entertained but during the winter the things they find entertaining can really really get on my nerves for instance making a fort that stretches across the entire kitchen making decorations out of colored pictures for every wall in the house riding bikes in the house rearranging the pantry jumping on furniture or beds and the list could go on so last year i started having the kids make a winter bucket list basically things we can do to keep winter interesting without driving matt and i absolutely nuts things like go see christmas lights go to the dinosaur museum ride the train make a snowman make cookies go to chick fil a go to a movie things of that nature i like to cut out each list item and hang it on some branches which sit in a mason jar this is the exact same way i display our thankful tree during thanksgiving same branches same jar different ribbon this year we accomplished a lot of the things during thanksgiving break which is a little bit of a bummer since there s a lot of winter left but luckily a lot of the items can be done multiple times like sledding we live about 3 blocks away from a really fun sledding hill it s right next to the neighborhood playground which works out nice for our situation bennett isn t quite big enough to go sledding so he has to stay home with his mommy dad takes the three older babies sledding by himself what an amazing guy none of the kids like to go down on their own so matt has to take them down on his lap one by one with the playground nearby two kids can play on the playground while matt takes one child down the hill for a few runs these pictures are pretty horrible but bennett was in the car crying because he needed to be fed such is the life of a nursing mother the kids had a blast and can t wait to go back i m just really excited that no one got hurt well i take that back matt usually ends up hurt in some way he s a trooper though he carried kids up that hill for almost 2 hours kids make life so much more fun i never really enjoyed sledding when i was young but it s so much fun to go now we ve already started talking about the different kinds of sleds we ll be able to buy when the kids get a little older a few years ago when maddox was really tiny we used to plan things and i would feel a little bit of dread it was so hard to take all the kids out and try to have fun one or two of them was always upset about something and it was really easy to get frustrated there were a lot of times where i thought that s it we re never leaving the house again i used to think it was because the kids were just so little but now i m realizing it s just because we just kept trying we eventually learned how to keep everyone happy and the kids learned how to act when we were out it was rough for awhile but i m really glad we toughed it out i love these little adventures we get to have with our kids posted by m t peterson at 5 54 pm 1 comment monday january 6 2014 my favorites from 2013 2013 was an incredible year i m not going to lie i was sick for most of it but i still wouldn t change anything i m more thankful for my opportunity to be a mom than i have ever been my kids and my husband are my whole world just for the sake of remembrance here is a list of my favorite moments from 2013 some of these moments weren t my favorite at the time but when i think about them i can t help but smile sloane starting preschool taking all four kids to get flu shots and all of the kids screaming and trying to escape maddox answering all questions with the word no holynd flying down the hill on her friend s bike and me not recognizing that it was my child that was sobbing on our neighbor s front lawn after wrecking holynd learning to read sloane finally deciding that being potty trained wasn t the most horrible thing in the world maddox going to nursery may maddox finally going to nursery without crying and clinging to matt or i november bennett being born sloane having her first friend over for a playdate the girls sleeping in the same twin bed for a month because they couldn t stand to be apart maddox moving into his bedroom downstairs he was so super excited about it bennett s first smile going back to yoga post birth running again sloane going to the e r after colliding with her headboard and bleeding everywhere getting to watch the girls do swim lessons sloane starting dance class and not listening to her teacher for the first month sloane visiting primary and refusing to acknowledge holynd no matter how many times holynd waved or yelled sloane s name having my first dark haired baby learning to take all four kids grocery shopping discovering slurp and all it s treats taking all four kids to cornbelly s by myself yep all by myself maddox being a total daddy s boy decorating a nursery again finding out we were having another wonderful little boy searching the entire internet for the perfect little boy name matt purchasing his first real bbq grill going to park city for my birthday and getting my first massage maddox finally learning to walk he waited until 17 months old my wonderful husband taking me to see jerry seinfeld holynd and sloane flooding the kitchen while i nursed bennett holynd switching to a booster seat matt dressing up as ron burgandy for halloween a new season of arrested development matt taking the girls to disney on ice sloane eating an entire tube of lip gloss gardening so many trips to the library bennett s blessing day aunt twitch going to usu aunt t getting a dog and bringing it to utah a dog that my children decided they are terrified of maddox coloring on every single wall in the house matt replaced the garbage disposal all my himself he s super proud losing my phone in several different stores and matt always being able to find it eating my first buffalo burger in a bar on a sunday it was a really fun year dramatic at times but fun there are so many other great things that happened i can hardly wait to see what 2014 has in store for us posted by m t peterson at 7 33 pm no comments there s nothing quite like christmas christmas was magical as always i can t think of anything more fun than watching your kids on christmas morning this year we really tried to remind the kids why we celebrate christmas we often reminded them that we were celebrating christ and everything he did for us i don t know if we made very much of an impact but hopefully next year they ll be a little more interested i did not take a very complete set of pictures from christmas day i pretty much snapped pictures for the first 10 minutes we were up and then gave up sometimes some moments just need to be enjoyed instead of documented santa tried something different this year and didn t wrap all the gifts most of them were set out and were ready to be played with the girls woke up first no surprise there and immediately started playing i m still not 100 sure how long they were in there playing before they woke matt and i up once we were up we had a really hard time trying to get the kids to open their gifts they just wanted to play with what they could already see i think we may have to write to santa and tell him that this wasn t the greatest idea at least while the kids are so little it was a wonderful christmas that we get to go to a lot of programs it s only going to get more overwhelming but matt and i couldn t think of a better way to spend the holidays we never get sick of seeing our kids in the limelight holynd and sloane have been blessed with such fun groups of friends there are quite a few times during the week where we have a few extra children running around it keeps things interesting
