case with all addicts it s too much fun for me to care my passions are as diverse as they are weird i m deeply into linguistics both in general and specific languages my native language is polish and i also speak english swedish and welsh with varying levels of fluency with some norwegian thrown in though i don t study it as seriously because it s so similar to swedish my dream list of languages to learn includes finnish sámi which isn t really a single language but anyway dutch frisian faroese scots irish scottish gaelic manx and cornish i have a borderline pathological fascination with minority languages and their preservation even when it s a language i m not especially passionate about hearing that it s endangered or dying always saddens me while i write exclusively in english on this blog i frequently discuss my languages and love sharing music in them language is play to me i like using words in unconventional ways though i feel much more confident doing this in polish i enjoy experimenting with style blending colloquialisms and dialects with more formal or even archaic expressions it s something i d love to master more in english through blogging if you spot any popular ones like mbti or the big five which feel relatively limiting and superficial to me but in particular the more niche ones that have originated in slavic countries such as socionics and psychosophy a russian personality typing system developed by alexander y afanasyev whose american equivalent is called attitudinal psyche i type people around me in these all the time it s like a compulsion i even typed misha even though these systems are made only for typing humans besides that i m a keen horse rider usually ride once a week though these days mostly as chill hippotherapy rather than the legit sport it used to be and have a rather extensive collection of gemstones if i m not forced to attend some family gathering or am not in bed with a migraine you ll likely find me reading or writing something as lengthy as possible doing stuff online talking to misha in any language i feel like he seems to understand them all talking to myself cuz why not discussing very serious topics like morality and nutrition with my mum or very unserious ones like social life not mine and human fingernails with my sister sofi or driving round the world with my dad on google maps discussing whatever with ais including my two assistants both named jack who help me run this blog behind the scenes listening to music folk tends to be my favourite genre but i also enjoy various shades of electronic music rock indie good pop early music experimental and anything else that might resonate with me i like to say that my music taste is eclectic but picky cause it sounds very cool doing all kinds of stuff with my languages paracosming daydreaming out in the forest or the stable horse riding typing random unsuspecting innocent people in socionics psychosophy and whatnot i was born totally blind due to optic nerve hypoplasia which in my case is part of a larger condition called septo optic dysplasia the latter also means i m anosmic unable to smell a thing have hypopituitarism a deficiency in some of the pituitary hormones and that my coordination and balance are affected to some extent in fact while i always knew i had onh the realisation that i have sod came not too long ago when i was already an adult and since the condition is quite rare and i m continuing to learn about it it s possible that other things in my life are because of sod as well i just don t know it yet last year i concluded that i most likely have dyspraxia a developmental disorder that affects your coordination which is a frequent comorbidity with sod but because it cannot be diagnosed in totally blind people like myself for purely logistical reasons no one had ever figured it out when i was a child nor can i pursue a formal diagnosis now it s quite normal for blind children to experience some delay in motor development compared to their sighted peers however my lifelong struggles in this area seem to be more significant than blindness alone would warrant i wrote a post on this very topic if you re curious how one can be both blind and dyspraxic it could be deadly for skimmer syndrome sufferers though i ve also had recurring mental health struggles including major depressive episodes since age nine and have gotten diagnoses of dysthymia a persistent milder depression and avoidant personality disorder avpd while i d been in therapy for years i haven t been in it since 2018 as it wasn t particularly helpful and required transportation i couldn t manage independently plus i kinda lost faith in most forms of therapy this blog is an emotional outlet for me a space where i can share my experiences and thoughts about life and the world in general through my rather specific bibiel lens which as i ve been told often varies quite a lot from most other people s lenses at the risk of sounding snowflake y expressing myself through writing comes much more naturally to me than any other form of communication thank you once again for visiting my inner mishmash like my blog yeah so i thought that it would scare people but as it is as huge a part of my life as it is scary i needed to at least mention it and those scary groups of scarily sounding languages were also important to mention as it isn t so that just any language is so extremely interesting to me yes well done you spelled them both right you sound like my mum she is also scared of words she seldom hears especially long words of latin or greek origin you mean how i do languages generally it doesn t differ that much from how sighted people do it although of course i get much more through hearing than it usually is with other people but that is actually an advantage in this case the problem is usually with getting apropriate and accessible resources it can be hard firstly because my languages are so niche and scary that other people would rather prefer to forget they exist and secondly because while creating a course be it online or an exercise book or something people not always think about making it accessible and unfortunately often it is so that not accessible easier to make especially in the context of making websites apps also sighted people are usually visuals so it s easier to give them some graphic like flashcards which my screen reader won t read to me unless they will describe the graphics another thing is with people s narrow mindedness cause when you are blind and search for a teacher people usually get very confused or scared they are convinced that teaching me must be very different and significantly harder than with sighted people my swedish teacher who luckily was a very open minded guy said though for him i was the easiest student to teach probably because i was eager to learn and the reason for which i learn swedish is simply my whim and i picked up the phonetics before he started to teach me he had to put some significant effort in things like rewriting stuff from normal physical books for me as we didn t have any alternative but that was a very speciffic situation he had a pretty rare book that i couldn t find anywhere in an accessible version and generally such efforts aren t needed to work successfully with me so it can be shitty at times and i m sure that if the world would be more open minded i could see i would be much further now and would be able to speak at least half of my languages but generally if you are determined enough and can find some helpful thinking people then there is actually no difference between sighted and blind people learning languages like liked by 3 people reply robyn harris says
