one has a place that they can call their own and raise a family in the list is endless imagine celebrating the grand opening of a new multi story luxury hotel a beautifully architected building that features hundreds of beautifully furnished rooms a five star restaurant a grand ballroom and many other amenities that can be enjoyed by those with the means to enjoy them a place that is an example of civic pride that brings hundreds of distinguished visitors to your city now fast forward one hundred years what was once a city landmark a place of pride an example of genuine beauty that enriched countless lives is now a dilapidated derelict ruin of a building the luxury hotel that it was built to house went out of business decades ago as times changed the only inhabitants of the building now being homeless drug addicts prostitutes child runaways and the undiscovered corpses of those unfortunate enough not to have survived life on the streets the neighborhood once the city s most elite is now so dangerous that no one goes there willingly especially not after dark police visits to the site are daily occurrences and the city fire department has put out no fewer than a dozen conflagrations ignited by homeless camp fires and drug binges so badly decayed and damaged is the building that the city s code enforcement division has ordered it condemned and yet the city is planning a centennial celebration for the building complete with speeches by local politicians public exhibitions of the building in its glory days and announcements of plans to renovate it and restore it to its glorious past of course without offering any specifics as to who is buying the building and when restoration efforts will begin despite the fact that it is unsalvageable and condemned as unsafe that building is an apt metaphor for the united states of america in the year 2026 its semiquincentennial what was launched as a noble and unique experiment in government by of and for the people something never successfully tried anywhere in human history before that time has tragically failed in fact it failed a long time ago arguably within half a decade of the u s constitution being ratified there has long been a great deal of contention over what event signaled the death knell of the american republic and i m not going to rehash them here mostly because i do not believe that any single event is the culprit rather it is the cumulative effect of multiple assaults on the nation s founding ideals over the course of two and a half centuries that has destroyed the nation s foundations creating a monstrous ruin that the nation s founders would not only not recognize but would exhort the citizenry to set right no matter the cost unfortunately their exhortation would be in vain as there is no longer a common consensus on what should be done and for the simple reason that there is no longer a common american culture or vision at least not one that would have been recognizable by the founders i remember the bicentennial celebrations of 1976 i was 15 years old then not old enough to have a full appreciation of our nation s history but still old enough to recall the events that affected the nation during my lifetime while conditions at the time were far from perfect there was still a broad and strong consensus that we were all americans that whatever our ethnic philosophical or political differences might have been we all loved our country and wanted it to become a better place for everyone to live in people often disagreed with one another but disagreement did not equate to vicious hatred also while there were significant communities of non european immigrants in the country they were a minority with limited political influence and significantly that sought to assimilate into the broader population and become america citizens sadly that country is long gone the america of 2026 is not even remotely the same america of 1976 to say nothing of the america of 1776 today s america is a balkanized patchwork of warring ethnic political and racial tribes each seething with visceral and lethal hatred for each other the only thing currently preventing all out civil war is the armed might of the federal government itself essentially an imperial army of occupation that prevents states and localities from dealing with the issues causing the contention but the u s government is a failed government whose grip on power grows weaker as its own policies e g immigration foreign policy monetary policy undermine it it will not be able to keep the american union together by force indefinitely and once the u s dollar suffers its inevitable meltdown and loses its reserve currency status all bets are off and things will get genuinely and lethally ugly so what is there to celebrate for those of us who value liberty and who cherish the ideals behind the nation s founding the answer is nothing as far as the current united states of america is concerned if anything we want to see the imperial monster that is wearing its skinsuit destroyed we also realize that restoring the usa as it is now geopolitically constituted to the government envisioned by the founders is an absolutely unrealistic goal the demographics of today s usa simply make that impossible there are too many people both young heritage americans and non european immigrants who despise the usa and everything it stands for there has been some talk of cleansing the land of such people or deporting them to the lands from whence they came but doing this on a large scale is equally unrealistic the best that patriotic white heritage americans can hope for is to carve out a new nation for ourselves somewhere amidst the rubble of the current nation after it is rent apart by civil war and re establish a government based on the original u s constitution plus the bill of rights not the heavily amended neutered routinely ignored perversion used by the leviathan state today if we re going to have to start over we need to make sure that we have learned from our past mistakes so fire up the grill and light off fireworks if you feel so inclined it s short circuit my hardwiring the problem is not so much caring excessively as caring excessively about things that i cannot change at least not on my own these are mostly work related and concern ethics professional standards and a desire to do the right thing even if it costs me in other words an attitude and outlook that has no place in today s predatory business world cares that a saner man would just forget about in order to preserve his own mental health tilting at windmills is admittedly not a productive use of one s energy and efforts once again though i have more self respect than that and will just have to see if i finally reach a breaking point that forces a change within i m sure i ll rant about it here when that happens family is the second stress factor to all who are concerned my wife family and property emerged from the recent venezuela earthquake unscathed glory be to god i m also happy to report that progress is being made on the repatriation front but it s going to be slow and tedious two months ago my wife and i had a conference call with our immigration lawyer with whom we hadn t talked in a couple of years the upshot of it was that since my wife has been outside of the u s for so long she is going to have to re establish residency all over again it will involve convincing u s immigration that she has not abandoned her u s residency for which we have enough documentation to make a convincing case especially given events in venezuela over the last five plus years and given the health issues she s had while there that have prevented her from traveling until recently it will require an interview with a consular official at a u s embassy and since the consular services section at the newly reopened u s embassy in caracas is not yet open for business this interview will most likely happen at the u s embassy in bogota colombia wherever this interview takes place i will be traveling there to meet her and be with her for it my presence and an avalanche of documentation that i bring providing ammunition for the restoration of her u s residency it usually takes 30 to 60 days for a decision so in the interim i will return to venezuela with her and enjoy a month or two in the house in the tropics that my hard earned money bought and that i can easily work from remotely she s set up a very nice home office for me unfortunately our immigration lawyer now seems to have taken a powder she hasn t responded to our emails or phone calls for the last six weeks and her office has been shuttered despite her having two paralegals as office staff i know she s having family problems she s a single mother of two and her own mother is suffering from cancer but that hardly explains her disappearance we ve been her clients for ten years and she s never before dropped out on us i hope she didn t get mixed up in some narcocartel related legal fiasco she s originally from mexico btw i m long overdue for a rant about women who go into medicine or law get burned out on it and then either abruptly quit the profession or start treating it like a hobby anyway we can t afford to waste any more time waiting on her so we re searching for a new immigration lawyer my stepson is an attorney in venezuela and one of his colleagues knows a venezuela born immigration attorney in miami who is supposedly very good i ll be in contact with this individual s law firm shortly beyond work and the ongoing family issues there isn t much else going on in my life i simply don t have the energy for diversions and probably won t until at least the family issue is resolved at the beginning of last month i reached that magic age that 1 makes me a ward of medicare and 2 puts an extra large target on my back when the next round of layoffs takes place at work i marvel at the fact that the radical changes in demographic and economic realiity that have occurred since what passes for a social safety net in the u s was established nearly a century ago have not affected policies in the least it really shouldn t surprise me given the soup sandwich that is every other aspect of life here but i cannot help but wonder how long the clowns in charge of this open air asylum think they can continue to ignore reality all i know is that when that reality hits us it will probably destroy ...
