suddenly like sike 06 00 19 may 2026 piracytheorist manga spoilers and theory so even before i had read through the whole manga it struck me as interesting how the withered branches of silverwoods are shown as black and apparently poisonous for the rest of the tree sounds a lot like gangrene considering gangrene is caused by lack of blood supply it s fairly weird to consider that a tree which has no circulatory system would fall prone to such a problem i assume this is why witches have come to accept the metaphor of silverwoods having blood i mean they literally have blood from their host but that s not what they re saying is it but what also caught my attention is how nolnoa says that the blackened branches are poisonous to the tree understandably so but to humans if so why does nolnoa handle a blackened branch with bare hands why is he comfortable working in an environment where blackened branches may appear at any moment and most importantly how is it that the blackened branches are supposedly poisonous but the ink coming out of them practically the rotten blood is not the only reason witches don t use ink on their bodies is because of the pact but no one ever worries about ink stains on their hands you could argue that boiling the branch might kill any dangerous bacteria but apparently living right next to a silverwood and handling its withered branches with bare hands doesn t appear to be dangerous so how exactly is it poisonous for humans they know enough to not eat the seeds so i don t think the poisonous part is there to discourage them from eating the withered branches luluci says she was aware of the parasitic nature of silverwoods which means that at least among the knights moralis that was a common knowledge maybe wider based on tartah s words it s only somehow conveniently left out that humans can also become hosts so anyway theory since silverwoods are crucial to witchcraft i m inclined to believe that some witches very deliberately spread a rumor that blackened branches are toxic to humans in order to make sure that no blackened branch would be left uncut because if they do what if that causes the whole tree to rot and allow the host to be free from it like think about it when the witches made the pact they believed it necessary to end the violence but at the same time it created an unfair dichotomy where humans not born in witch s circles had no option to join in if they believed it was a necessary evil what other necessary evils have they accepted silverwoods are necessary for witchcraft right they take over animals to grow but there hasn t been any mention of veganism so it s no big matter but hm looks like it also grows in humans but it s rare enough that maybe we can accept a few people being lost to silverwood if it means we can keep magic alive and if we allow that knowledge to spread people might get paranoid that every silverwood might hide a human inside it and thus let them rot just to see if they can free that human from it which means we ll be putting magic en masse at risk just for the sake of saving the few humans that might get infected so we make sure people know not to eat the seeds and tell them that rot can affect them so they ll cut it off before the tree dies and exposes the fact that the host can be freed because even if they learn that humans can be hosts they won t dare let the rot spread out of fear of it becoming a danger for other humans i am aware that there s many holes in that theory since only witches are aware of what the tree does so a random silverwood growing in a random forest away from witches will eventually rot this is just me theorizing especially about ways qifrey and custas may be freed from the silverwood what if the solution is to actually let the tree take over and then let it die the warmlight the first time i read this chapter i thought the branches contained magical blood that came from the host when dissolved in boiling water this blood loses some of its properties and becomes useful for witches to perform normal magic but when iguin put their own blood directly into coco s vial the magic became much more powerful personally i don t fully trust the narrative that the branches are inherently dangerous because the people enforcing the accords have lied many times in order to protect the limits imposed by them at this point i m not even sure witches truly need the silvertree to create magic maybe normal blood could do it too or perhaps even something else entirely the silvertree is something that makes me think a lot about the ones who walk away from omelas by ursula k le guin or fyodor dostoevsky in general but especially the brothers karamazov witch hat atelier feels very much like a dialogue with these stories constantly leaving us with more questions than answers and forcing us to reflect on our own limits and contradictions imagine that you are creating a fabric of human destiny with the object of making men happy in the end giving them peace an rest at last but it was essential and inevitable to torture to death only one tiny creature and to found that edifice on its unavenged tears would you consent to be the architect on those conditions i hope they can free themselves from the silvertree but that s what makes it such an omelas dilemma to me the witches who rely on its magic would have to give up the power comfort and stability that shaped their entire lives how many witches would truly be willing to walk away from that kind of world because even if custas and qifrey manage to free themselves they the top qifrey does read to me like he s asexual it kind of started as a joke to me from the moment he said he hated getting wet but i kinda like it that way too similarly olruggio is demi with a single minded preference for qifrey i made a long explanation on this post on why i chose that age range for qifrey i feel they have at most two years difference between them although i m leaning towards them being the same age although according to a comment from shirahama apparently it doesn t really matter lol now olruggio is very casual with pda qifrey doesn t mind it but prefers them snuggling in their own private space and all it s never anything more than a hug in front of the girls though the first fic i read with them had qifrey call him love and i fell in love with that he absolutely does use pet names olruggio may do it a little ironically considering that they do have their wits about them despite all the shit they ve been through i do believe that they can be pretty independent i m not the best judge about that though xd considering their background before they met olruggio was in a much better mental place to grow feelings quickly qifrey was a mess it certainly took qifrey way longer to realize his feelings i think it s pretty much canon that olruggio shows affection through actions especially with qifrey qifrey is much better at words they live in the countryside i think they d both be super chill with bugs and yeah i think they d be quite opposites when it comes to organizing their stuff xd now olruggio is the first to confess and get his memories wiped i couldn t really choose who apologizes first as of right now qifrey is physically incapable of opening up so it may look like olruggio would be quicker to apologize but once he s curse free qifrey has a ton of guilt to unload as i said qifrey is better at words so he does the most talking although olruggio has his share of it i debated about the penmanship and while it would make more sense for olruggio to have the better one courtesy of having had a stable childhood whose memories he maintained i think it would be funny if despite that qifrey s penmanship is better xd now i want to think that olruggio tried getting some experience in relationships maybe one time while qifrey was away on his own olruggio would try to move on only to realize he hates it anyway he s not the one forced to keep distance from others so he has more experience in human relationships in general i think i think both are good in noticing the subtle changes but olruggio has kind of been conditioned to not say anything you know constant mind wiping and all that and i believe it would be very cathartic for qifrey to propose first to know he s secure in this life enough to ask for it now i don t think i need to explain the commitment bit we all know what we re about about awkwardness i feel olruggio would be confident af the moment he realizes that qifrey has been loving him all along it s why he d also be comfortable with pda meanwhile i feel that at first qifrey would need to first get over his instinctual response to getting comfort and that would take some time and lead to some
