there s scientists still inventing new and fascinating mad science gadgets and that humanity is still advancing what the game shows you is that even after 200 years absolutely no one has built anything with new materials and everyone lives with holes in their roofs and walls because they ve just badly nailed together whatever scrap could be scavenged no one is cutting lumber no one is quarrying stone no one is even recovering bricks scraping them level and mixing new mortar these people are living at a stone age subsistence level of technology except with guns which is baffling because no one is shown to be producing any of the ingredients for gunpowder despite all the metal in use you never see a blacksmith or a functional forge or foundry that isn t being used as a sacrificial hell pit by a bandit cult don t get me started on how anyone still has functional electronics if they re relying exclusively on 200 year old components if fallout 3 and 4 was a story being diamond city or megaton but because they re open world video games we do get to go poke around in all the corners of those places and the facilities required to explain even the tech they do have let
