only biological granddaughter he adopted others but i m his only blood grandchild and was definitely his favorite as evidenced by the 14 photos of me who took with him to show everyone in town page and lois were my everything i was very close to them but other family members took their belongings they had valuable things and that mattered more than making sure their granddaughter had memories i will dig through your flickr account but sometimes i don t remember which location is what i would love to find photos of our family church it was up in the blue ridge it s more like a little chapel and across from it is a cemetery where slaves were buried many without headstones my granddaddy was born 1 of 10 children and they were so poor they lived in a 1 room shack that was used as slave headquarters someone in our family took the painting of that shack after they passed i don t know where it is now when my granddaddy passed i was only 10 or 11 relatives that were not kind to my grandaddy emptied out their home before we could return from the funeral that still makes me sick when my nana passed i was 12 or 13 her belongings were kept by others i know my grandparents would have wanted me to have photos of them and some of their heirlooms i d just like to have the paintings of them and the places that mattered to them that little tea set too and maybe one of granddaddy s hats he had the best hats and they looked spectacular on him he was 6 feet or taller and always smelled of old spice and carmex we also went to this little mom and pop restaurant up in the hills where they served freshly tapped syrup it was a sunday traditional we had with my nana after my granddaddy passed away my mother and i moved to lynchburg to be by her at that point she passed only 2 years maybe less after i would love photos of that restaurant i have a very funny story about the last time we were there i d love to see their house my memories inside it are so clear but i can t recall the outside at all page was very involved in the lion s club too he was also very close with jerry falwell my nana was not any stories or pictures of them or places they spent time would be wonderful my granddaddy and i would go to the soda counter regularly that was in the drug store i don t know if it s still around i also want to find pictures and stories of my aunt dingle as they name sounds she was something else i d like to write my memoir and feel it s important to capture some of my roots my grandparents had such a big influence on me i m always trying to make the decision that that would make them proud today i m a social worker and a therapist like my granddaddy i try to give every time i ve spent the last 20 years volunteering mentoring youth in need and working in the trenches to help those who need a voice i do that because it s just the way i was raised it wasn t seen as special my granddaddy was just a kind person to his core he would literally take his coat off to cover a puddle for my nana no one was more of a gentleman than him but my husband comes close i don t think i would ve waited so long to marry if it wasn t for page he modeled the behavior i knew i would deserve one day when i grew up to be a woman any help you can give me would be invaluable i d like to come back to lynchburg to spend a week working on my memoir but connecting with others has been hard just seems people are too busy these days for nearly everything luckily i have more time and i don t want to waste it i have health issues that limit my ability to walk so i need to work on i came searching for it again today as pics of the demolition of culver studios to make way for amazon was is breaking my heart i am a 30 union lighting guy stuntman actor and just love some of the old history i know in the last few years a lot of studios have changed over again any plans on keeping this page updated i feel it is the ultimate go to for the evolution of the studios and would love to see it continue to be so i understand and appreciate how much work you must put into it peace reply calvin sneed says july 19 2025 at 1 32 pm kipp my name is calvin sneed i write a newspaper column in upper east tennessee on old steel truss and concrete arch bridges the bridges in my next column are three that both you and i know well the former orange bridge in lynchburg virginia from what i know the bridge is not a former bridge it lives on and has since 1941 when it was disassembled brought to kingsport tennessee and reassembled as part of three bridges on the southern railroad as an interplant connection from the holston ordance works and the tennessee eastman company the purpose was in the production of rdx the explosive that helped win world war ii fyi i grew up right beside one of the bridges and i have close up pictures of all three do you have a picture of the old orange bridge piers in the james river that i can use in my article could you give me permission to use it in my story also do you know of anyone or can you speak to the history of this old bridge when it spanned the james river i appreciate anything you can provide me my email is douglassriverview gmail
