jackson is arguably the greatest entertainer of all time his body of work including music fashion sense and global impact sets him apart from everyone else for lack of a better word or phrase michael was other worldly though the latter part of his life proved to be very controversial no one can take away the influence that michael has on the world even almost 16 years after his untimely death i ll get back to the biopic momentarily but two weeks ago i flew to las vegas to see michael jackson one one is a resident cirque du soleil production that blends high energy acrobatics dance and original michael jackson music that is both mesmerizing and empowering this was an excellent opportunity to bask in the greatness of his music with stunning visuals this show is certainly a must see for fans of the king of pop now let s fast forward to the biopic that i was fortunate enough to get early access passes to see late yesterday i ve heard both pros and cons about this movie but my only con would be that i really wanted to see more regarding the connection with diana ross and with his sister janet but due to legal concerns and perhaps even personal ones both of those iconic figures were absent from the biopic that spanned from his jackson 5 years until 1988 apparently a sequel is already in the preliminary stages and it seems that the vultures are waiting to pounce on all of the negativity that can be conjured up regarding michael jackson for me this biopic was great the only thing they needed in that movie theatre was a dance floor because there was a constant groove around the room the actors including michael s nephew jafaar jackson coleman domingo nia long and juliano valdi all put on worthy performances i was surprised to see how jafaar perfected his craft and at times one could hardly tell that it was not actually michael on that stage performing if you re looking to see every move that michael makes in his life like him going to the bathroom or brushing his teeth this is not the movie for you this movie centers on the work that it took to make him power his way to the top do yourself a favor and go see how michael masters his craft and ascends to concert that i ever went to was diana ross i was an adult at the time and i saw her in charlotte nc i saw her again in greensboro nc years later diana s voice her glamorous nature her acting etc easily appealed to the fandom of a lot of people especially people of color i ve been a fan for years even to this day diana can still command an audience i brought all of this up to say that a couple of days ago a buddy of mine texted me this song and i really had no idea that diana s daughter tracee ellis ross could sing like this if one were to close their eyes they could certainly hear diana ross i knew tracee could act and really make people laugh with her quick wit but the singing part definitely took me to another level years ago i was watching a video of diana ross in vegas i think it was vegas at that concert the elder ross pulled tracee up on stage to sing lady sings the blues i thought then that tracee could sing but certainly not on this level obviously this movie the high note has been out for 2 3 years and maybe even longer i never got the memo and just heard this song just a couple of days ago this is what i m grooving to at the moment as i love myself enjoy your labor ways that only life can there s been a multitude of events that have happened since my last post the reason that i won t go into them is that each one of you can testify to the particulars as they happen to all of us for instance like a child being born death marriage loss of a job a health scare and the list goes on and on i guess though truthfully we all tend to prioritize the things that are important to us it is important to me that i work on writing more so i guess i need to make that more of my priority than i have to those of you out there reading this thank you for taking time out of frequent than they used to perhaps that will change in 2020 every year since i started i always try to post something for black history month for me this is a great way to end the month this song called pray for me by the weeknd and kendrick lamar from the black panther soundtrack is excellent i m not a big rap fan but i do like this one i also like the fact that this song has that michael jackson flavor in the midst of it i m really loving this song right about now one of the reasons i know i love it is that every time i hear this song i can t get enough of it according to wikipedia black panther was released in february 2018 and went on to break multiple box office records in various markets worldwide it became the highest grossing film by a black director in its domestic market of the united states and canada it set the records for the highest grossing superhero film and the highest monday gross elsewhere it became the highest grossing film in the territories of east west isabel davis every song i hear by this lady is absolutely moving and inspirational her delivery is extraordinary and the message in itself is always on point as to what i m needing spiritually i have stood there hearing this song that i remembered as a soul song written by berry gordy hal davis bob west and willie hutch the song was recorded by the jackson 5 and released by motown records on august 28 1970 as the first single from their third album on the same date today the song was also being presented as a soul song but this was soooooooo different i could easily now hear this song being played on any gospel station i looked at the lyrics in ways that i never had before and from this day forward i will always remember this as a soul song as it really touched my soul today check
