o eat and then to the mall for orange julius i was having a terrible time keeping my feelings at bay the young guy working the counter asked me how s your day going so far i smiled and said it s been great even though it wasn t really true and he responded saying very sincerely well i hope it keeps getting even better just that nice sincere comment from this young teenager made my day and i was determined to have a better day because of him it was so simple and most normal days i maybe wouldn t have thought much about it but i needed it this particular day you never know how something little you do can turn someone s day around and i want to be more aware to be able to do that for others this year to celebrate new year s eve we hung out downtown first stop was city creek and lunch at the food court for our favorites sbarro for ashton red iguana for the rest of us then we shopped we were originally there for mike but ashton is the one who scored he s getting way into clothes it s kind of funny but i love it we had to check out the macy s windows again this year not being big peanuts fans we weren t too excited about this year s with everything that theme but still impressive how they do it we then headed to the grand america to see their cute christmas windows and do the scavenger hunt the kids thought the hunt was way too easy this year but i think they are just getting too old either way the windows are amazing giant gingerbread house completely made of goodies crazy we had some time to kill so we killed it at the most awesome harmons then off to the jazz game since we had a late lunch we decided to just snack on fun stuff at the game we were celebrating bringing in the new year after all so we got all the yummy game food we could want it had been awhile since we d been there so we were excited to see there was now swig and iceberg concessions and took full advantage of that the jazz bear lead us in auld lang syne and we won an awesome awesome game we went home and watched the new york countdown and concerts and stayed up way too late and are still paying for it but it was the perfect way to bring in what i know will be the best year yet no comments september 15 2015 how we ended up with a dog meet fendi i have a ton of catching up to do but first i wanted to share about how we ended up with a new addition to our family it s kind of a long story but it s a big deal for us my whole life of scary bad asthma i had to avoid homes with dogs and cats i had friends get very mad at me because i had to miss a lot of birthday and slumber parties animals could easily put me in the hospital i did have a dog growing up but in the mild seattle climate we could have her as a strictly outdoor dog i grew to think of animals as something to avoid and if i did come in any contact with them i had to wash my hands and clothes as soon as possible now as a mom of course my two kids have felt like it s not fair that we couldn t have a dog and have always wanted one so badly i remember telling brayden when she was probably 4 or so that unless i died it could never happen i then would hear her talking excitedly about the dog she would get when i died ha ha nice we went through every type of robot electronic or virtual dog out there i ve always felt so bad and guilty about it then as my kids grew each of them developed some allergies to certain animals too i thought for sure it would never ever happen one little light of hope it was a fear of mine before going on my mission of teaching in homes with animals and getting so sick i prayed so hard that i would be okay somehow on my whole spanish speaking mission in california i only ever came across homes with chihuahuas i came to find that they didn t affect me at all i had mentioned that to mike but having grown up with a great dane mike was in no way going to have a little yappy chihuahua so to me that was off the table so here we are years later the kids still begging for a dog we have tried out a few other supposed hypo allergenic breeds including a cute little shitzu we owned for 2 days in the first year of our marriage i don t think there is such thing as a hypo allergenic dog those almost killed me too knowing what i knew about me and chihuahuas and being tired of all of the begging this past july mike and i decided we would do a week trial with a little chihuahua puppy from the humane society 1 to see how i felt and 2 to show the kids all of the hard work that goes into it we found the cutest little 3 4 month old chihuahua puppy named bijou she was the sweetest thing and so much fun to have around the kids did great cleaning up all her accidents and messes all week i barely lifted a finger however i had some not bad allergies but i think it s because we weren t allowed to bathe her and also i wasn t ready to commit we had the option to adopt her but we chose not to after bringing her back though we all felt so sad guilty and as if we made the wrong decision we had fallen in love with her mike and i wanted to surprise the kids and get her back permanently but sadly she was adopted within 2 days of taking her back good for her but sad for us she still holds a place in our hearts even just having her a week our fun week with bijou this might sound weird but we really felt strongly that we needed a dog in our family so the search started we decided we wanted a female long haired chihuahua which are supposed to be even less allergenic than short haireds but they are hard to find we had a certain type and color in mind which made it even harder we wanted a puppy since chihuahuas need to be trained and socialized young to not be the stereotypical timid and yappy for 3 weeks i looked at classified all over the country and every breeder website i could find we were willing to pay whatever if we found just the right puppy i would refresh our local ksl classifieds page a couple times a day just in case but didn t see much hope in that since i wasn t having much luck around the whole country one saturday morning i had just told brayden it could be awhile before we found the dog we wanted and just minutes later i refreshed ksl like i sometimes would and right on top of all the listings was a new ad for an 11 week old female long haired chihuahua with the exact look we were hoping for then i worried that it was too good to be true and that she would be snatched up too fast i tried to not have my hopes up as i texted but then found out she was still available and only 45 minutes away as soon as we met her we were in love she looked like a little tiny stuffed animal we already had a name picked out fendi here are some pics from the day we first got her she was so shy at first she just stood with her paws in her food bowl and ate nervously already trying to bling her out it was hard to find a collar small enough this one had to go back tiny little girl she made mike s shoulder her favorite resting spot the next day we took her to petsmart to get her a tag and the workers loved her so much they took her back to get a nail trim for free and she came out with these cute bows in her hair i guess it pays to be cute a few weeks later it s been 5 1 2 weeks and she s now potty trained as of 3 weeks ago knows sit lay down stay leave it high five and fetch so far and we are working on rolling over as of today when she had her last round of puppy shots she is exactly 3 pounds she s only gained 1 2 pound since we got her her parents were both only 3 1 2 pounds so she most likely won t be gaining a whole lot more she s very healthy and hearty for such a little thing though it s been so much fun and a dream come true for the kids and fulfilling something mike and i didn t know or think we needed or wanted i m still having to re teach myself that i don t need to wash my hands every second but i m getting there and no allergies it seems like a miracle i do feel a little like a hypocrite though i have a dog but i am still very allergic to all other dogs out there i have heard that having this little girl could actually help me get immune to other dogs eventually so it would be so awesome if that happens i take more pics of her than of my kids nowadays ha ha 1 comment june 16 2015 trendy tuesday summer favorites it s getting hot kids are getting out of school mine still have 2 1 2 weeks being in year round but we re getting close and the first day of summer is this sunday so being my very favorite season ever i m excited to talk about some favorite things of mine this summer first i want to talk about summer hair brayden and i have been through a few wavers and we just bought this to replace our last one and we love it better than the rest we ve tried it s bed head s a wave we go waver you can adjust the black knob on top to make the waves not as deep to very deep it s a fast way to get summer beachy waves that can last for several days at a time i discovered this stuff a couple years ago it s a sea salt spray that can help bring out natural wave in your hair and even has brought some out in my stick straight hair just by scrunching it all over it can also work to help hold your curled or waved hair sometimes i just spray it on even when i don t need it for it s amazing coconutty summer smell it s pretty amazing i love their beach babe shampoo and conditioner too they not only also smell coconutty but they are sulfate free hair seems to grow faster in the summer but since my hair needs some extra help for length and thickness i recently started taking this it s great for your hair skin and nails and has other benefits including making you feel full longer so you don t eat as much which can help your body become more summer ready and it s good for your joints the reviews are great and my mom swears by it so i m giving it a shot it s just a mostly tasteless powder that dissolves in any liquid so it makes it so easy to take i ll update with any results i get from it one thing that always made summertime so much fun growing up was stocking our freezer with all kinds of popsicles my kids love doing the same and we recently made our stockpile one that has always been a favorite of mine and are now my kids favorite as well are these strawberry shortcake bars i love that target has their own brand of them something brayden and i have recently become addicted to are these coconut sobe lifewater drinks they taste like summer that s the best way to describe it one thing i ve been loving this season in fashion is all of the fringe back in february for valentine s day mike got me well i picked out this purse from h m and i m in love with it it might resemble cousin it a little but i think it s so fun at the time it had taken me forever searching to find a fringy purse but they are everywhere now in all kinds of styles more ways to wear the fringe trend that purse in the middle top is the same one i have in white i also am obsessed with mint turquoise aqua they kind of intermix to me really i always am every season because it s my favorite but it s especially big for the summer it reminds me of tropical beaches and you can work it into almost every outfit i have saved the best for last this might be known out there but i had never heard of it until michelle money talked about it on good things utah back in march the diva cup this might be a little tmi but i had to share because i wish i had known about it sooner if you get brave enough to try it it will be a lifesaver for you this summer and forever during your time of the month you can leave it in for 12 hours at a time i have to tell you it s awesome you don t feel it and forget you are even on your period seriously they sell them at whole foods for 39 but i got mine for 28 on amazon it is suppose to last around 10 years so i d say that s a great deal for never buying pads or tampons again and for making life easier they come in two sizes one for before having kids or under 30 years old and one for after having kids or over 30 years old it even comes with it s own cute little storage bag ha ha now i m going to grab my coconut sobe and my iphone playing will smith s summertime pandora station and work on my base tan for all of the summer fun make your summer amazing 2 comments june 15 2015 disneyland trip 2015 spending the last day in hollywood it s only taking me half the year to blog about our february vacation ha ha this is the last post about it and i will update more on other things eventually notice how i didn t say soon it might be halloween before i get to easter but at least i m trying we planned things out with the weather and wanted the last nice day to be at disneyland and saved our second day at universal studios for what was supposed to be the rainy day since it wasn t as big of a deal to us the day ended up being pretty nice anyway which worked out great we started the day doing the tour again which was cool because with a different tour guide we learned some new things then we did rides then checked out a fun museum that had all different kinds of props and costumes from movies this was the coolest the actual car from back to the future a costume from back to the future michael j fox was so little we didn t stick around universal very long since we had already seen most of what we wanted to the first day we decided to head to hollywood blvd that street was a little scarier than what i had remembered people on every corner begging for money or trying to get us to buy something we also got dissed as white people when we didn t want to buy someone s rap cd i won t even get into the hypocriticalness of it all anyway maybe i ve just lived in utah too long where i grew up in seattle wasn t exactly the safest either but i really like living in our utah bubble and i realize that more now anyway we did have some fun the kids loved looking at all of the stars on the ground and seeing what names they recognized i don t think i was paying attention to what ashton was doing at the time but i love this mickey ears we passed this star but it was surrounded by tons of people so we didn t want to take time to stop all i saw quickly was leonard and wondered who it was assuming it was someone who just passed away i looked it up later to find out it was leonard nimoy s spock s star and that he had passed away the day before this wasn t my pic but it s basically what we saw from afar the kids also had fun finding some of their favorite icons hands or feet to try to fit into marilyn monroe michael jackson shirley temple adam sandler we checked out a giant nearby candy store with all kinds of crazy things the kids liked this candy machine you actually dispense candy from these
