play the piano and then when i won a full ride scholarship at 18 to a conservatory he backstabbed me and said nuh uh you ain t doing that you re going to a christian school in far away michigan so they tore away the very thing i d poured my heart and soul into i ended up an alcoholic and addicted to drugs when i was 25 he took my mom and siblings and moved them all to a tiny little cult town in and is very cathartic i used to sing in a choir as a child and i keep wanting to do my own versions of some of your songs not to post on the internet or even record but just for myself i was wondering truthfully i can only sort of half read it as i never fully learned it properly when i was a child and i ve forgotten a lot of what i did learn but like i said i m hoping to get back into making music for myself thanks for responding i also thought of a suggestion for a video if you are interested in it would you ever do one on the topic of childhood religious trauma and how it can be mistaken for mental disorders in my case when i was younger i had an extreme fear of not doing everything exactly the way that god wanted i couldn t even function because i was so terrified of making the wrong decision and i would be in extreme distress over something like choosing what to eat for breakfast because what if i didn t choose what was in god s plan for me to eat well eventually i got sent to a mental ward where a devoutly religious therapist psychiatrist sadly i can t even remember which saw how utterly screwed up i was but instead of recognizing that it was based on cruelty towards me by my parents general extreme neglect encouragement to listen for voices from god and years and years of absorbing preaching about going to hell at church while also not yet realizing i was queer but being terrified about that in particular even though i didn t know why yet she diagnosed me with the worst case of ocd she d ever seen and she really genuinely believed it she believed so deeply in the same religion as my parents that she didn t even consider that it could possibly have been a result of all the toxic ideas and behaviors that it teaches she was a very kind person at her core but she couldn t see past the religion either i ended up becoming an atheist shortly after now i m currently agnostic but i see now that really all i did was trade in the religion of my parents for the religion of psychiatry anyway it s just something i had been thinking about recently and am interested in hearing your take on so i thought i would put the suggestion out there i hope you have a clinic for 5 months now iam a newbie i have a experienced colleague with who iam working with closely on every case iam a psychologist and she is a social worker so we work together i recently found out she has been recording every session with our clients without they knowing for reasons of making reports its a state clinic and to have it as a proof if somebody accussed us of something i find it very unethical and it bothers me i voiced my opinion that i dont like it and i wont do it yet she havent stopped her behaviour have you ever faced a situation like this can you please give me some by the standards of her licensure it might also be illegal i don t know the laws on recording people where you are located or the laws on recording clients then there s also the question of you knowing about it might this also put you at risk i would look up what your ethical responsibilities are as a licensed psychologist maybe even make a call anonymous or otherwise to your licensing board to ask their opinion you could also talk about it with the head of your clinic the problem is often clinics side with the experienced colleagues against the newbies especially if you don t have proof which might be hard for you to get so this puts you at risk also if you re a whistleblower you could lose your job so that s why i would suggest proceeding cautiously i know when i was a therapist i saw many many therapists doing unethical things i think maybe one or two got in trouble in all the time i worked with them it was rare wishing you the best daniel p s at the least i would try to not
