queermystic when i was a kid my dad kept clean wet washcloths in the door of the freezer in summertime and whenever it got too hot he would hand them out to us kids and have us put them on our wrists forehead in the bend of our elbows and on the backs of our knees and then hold them on the back of our neck until we were cool applying the cold compress to your pulse points helps bring down your internal body temperature and then leaving it on the back of your neck it keeps you at the cooler temp for longer and if you have space in your freezer and a fan available you can freeze a bottle jug bowl of water whatever works for your living space and then sit the ice either in front or behind the fan whichever works best for your airflow situation and the melting ice will cool the air being moved around by the fan providing a makeshift ac effect it s not perfect but it will cool down an enclosed space by a few degrees which makes all the difference in these temperatures another tip which might seem janky but i swear it works in desperate times basically if your house isnt properly insulated against the heat you can diy that shit hang heavy duty thermal blankets over all the windows in your living space i m talking pinned or tacked or even nailed if you own your own home in every corner and as close to the actual window pane as possible preferably you want zero light in or out and if possible insulate the windows themselves with towels tucked in and around where they open blocking out the radiant heat from the windows any heat seeping through the improperly sealed windows will cool your home down at least 20 which can be a life and death difference in these kinds of temperatures and it will also hopefully prevent any cool air you do have in your home from escaping if you have window screens you can leave a window or two cracked open just a smidge for better airflow and circulation you dont want to suffocate in an attempt to escape the heat lol if you cant safely leave
