aven t quite gotten too yet the hunter hit 88 and i m working through voidstorm i tried to hit some of the side quests in the last two zones that i missed on the warlock but i m guessing i ll need a blogthis share to x share to facebook share to pinterest monday april 6 2026 march look back and mostly gearing my main i ve mostly been doing all the required weekly stuff on joar to continue to gear him up so all the renown events in each zone and all the weekly quests i m not as big a fan of the weekly dungeon quest for rep in midnight as i was in war within since each of the dungeons seems to take quite a bit longer this time around maybe that will get better as gear improves but so far they ve been a bit of a slog i m doing them in follower mode so queuing for a normal may be a better answer with all that i haven t made a ton of progress on the hunter he s at level 85 and has just gotten to the harandar zone i m trying to do all the side quests there since i didn t do them on my main i haven t covered all the delves yet but the ones i ve done have been good and i m looking forward to continuing that path for my various alts i also knocked out all the darkmoon faire profession quests this week although i still continue to debate whether i shouldn t just switch everyone over to mining and herbalism up after the hunter will be the druid who i m planning to continue leveling as balance at least for this particular druid in march i had a decent amount of playtime i came in at almost exactly 24 hours all of which was spent in world of warcraft that s still pretty far from my pace last year when i averaged closer to 36 hours per month but given everything going on right now it s not too bad that s the update for now with any luck next week i ll have finished the hunter new expansion it wasn t july after all but i finally managed to hit level 90 this past weekend my total leveling time to 90 was 16 hours and 56 minutes that puts it slower than war within but faster than dragonflight some of that is likely because i was logging off and on a lot and didn t have big blocks of time to focus on just knocking it out some of it is also because there were many more cutscenes this time around i also started working on leveling my hunter who is currently sitting at level 83 and working his way through zul aman i m just going to do the story there and then try to knock out a lot of the side quests in haranir which i didn t do the first time through i have also done a few delves and set foot in a couple of lfr sections those didn t go well so i won t try that again soon if i get a big block of time on a tuesday after reset that s the best time to try but it s unusual these days i very much enjoyed the story this time around i think zul aman is still my favorite zone after trying all of the others i also tried the abundance stuff a bit and it seems like a reasonably fun thing to do every once in a while i m looking forward to taking a more serious approach to delves after this week s reset i feel like my demonology warlock isn t quite as powerful as he was in war within but he s also not very geared at this point so i ll have to see how that progresses the beast mastery hunter is feeling pretty good so far though i haven t done much profession stuff but i probably need to run all my major profession toons through the intro stuff so i can to facebook share to pinterest monday march 23 2026 bathroom and kitchen disaster and still not 90 our trip to cancun went well and we had a great time like most all inclusive places the food was generally mediocre but the resort was clean and well maintained and the staff was excellent particularly the poolside service staff things took a turn for the worse when we got home however we had our house inspection on thursday afternoon and the inspector started filling the jacuzzi tub in our master bathroom which we have never used in the 20 years we ve owned the house the tub immediately began leaking into our kitchen ruining about half of our kitchen ceiling the next day we had a meeting with our hoa which is required before selling and we were told they want us to completely replace our concrete driveway before the sale because it has cracks in various places the total cost will be about 25 000 our initial buyer backed out of the transaction after all of this our back up buyers are fine with the status and steps we re discussing so the house is still under contract we finally got a plumber out this morning and found out that the tub was apparently never installed correctly so it would never have worked always have leaked we re going back to our new buyers now with an offer to replace it with a soaking tub if they have their heart set on a jacuzzi tub we ll provide them with a credit so they can buy a new one and have it installed themselves we expect the drywall repair to be completed by the end of this week at which point the new buyers can have their inspector come out on the world of warcraft front between vacation and this nonsense i m still not at max level i just finished zul aman which i enjoyed a lot one of the better zones in a long time from my perspective now i m babysitting arator as he runs around doing paladin things as an undead warlock i apparently provide a lot of comfort to him go figure i m at level 87 now the scaling so far has been slow it to facebook share to pinterest monday march 9 2026 picture day in preparation for listing our house for sale we had our real estate agent and her photographer come in to take pictures and shoot video of the house the process of getting ready for this photo shoot was nothing short of exhausting of course we had yet another long swim meet this weekend this time the high school club championships this was a prelim finals meet over 3 1 2 days that took up the majority of the time before picture day probably terrible planning on our part in hindsight but too late to do anything about it now every counter had to be cleared and every item stashed away or hidden we re not messy but we have a lot of clutter everywhere we thought we had everything planned out well with a bin system for each room but that quickly turned out to be rubbish when we figured out there was far too much stuff in most of these rooms to fit in the bins so sunday evening ended up late followed by an early monday morning and we still managed to pull it all off on time the house goes on the market on friday the same day we leave for spring break and hopefully it will be sold and done by the time we get back i have had a little bit of play time now as well i finished eversong and have progressed to zul aman though i m still very early in that zone i m at level 84 now demonology warlock seems to play pretty well and i m enjoying the story at this point i ve done one delve so far and it was decent it was the one you have to do as part of the story anyway i ve not really made any progress at all on share to x share to facebook share to pinterest tuesday march 3 2026 it may be a lengthy break i haven t had a chance to play much of midnight yet joar has barely made it into eversong woods and has only just dinged 81 a lot is going on in real life right now so i may not get much play time at all until april first off the good news we had the state championship swim meet this past weekend my son jake the youngest joarling won both his events the 50 free and the 100 breast he set new meet state and pool records in the 50 free and a new meet record in the 100 breast both his relays also won with the 200 medley relay setting new state and meet records and the 200 free relay setting state meet and pool records his team won the overall state championship and jake was selected as the male swimmer of the meet it was a pretty exciting weekend and a great end to his high school swim career the next couple of weeks are all extremely busy with jake heading off to arizona state to swim in college we have no actual connection to our current home in columbus ohio i was moved there for work so we re going to move to arizona to be a little bit closer so we can watch his meets that are on campus we re having pictures taken for the realtor next monday and then the house will be listed on friday march 13th we are also as fate would have it leaving for a spring break trip with jake and several of his high school friends that same day we don t get back until the early morning hours of thursday march 19th with any luck the house will be sold by then but that will start a countdown to finish packing and moving into temporary housing until jake graduates and we re ready to make the move to arizona in mid june our older son also graduates from college in early may and will then move into an apartment in boston shortly after on second thought it may be july before i get much play time so it s going to be a slow process getting joar leveled up to max in midnight the updates may be more personal than gaming for a while so hopefully that doesn t offend anyone what i ve seen of midnight so far i ve really enjoyed it s nice to be back in silvermoon and eversong woods although it s share to x share to facebook share to pinterest monday february 16 2026 preparing for midnight normally before an expansion i ve had a pretty long list of things that i needed to do to prepare for the new expansion drop i m less obsessive about that this time around for a variety of reasons first i m not going to be playing as soon as early access drops because it s during state championship weekend for high school swimming for my youngest i ll literally be in the car driving to canton ohio when it starts but also i think i m also generally just less obsessive about these things now i will still do a lot of the usual things like clearing out my bags of old materials and deleting all the stuff that is only relevant to this expansion i ll also clear out my quest logs and at some point after midnight starts i ll log on to all 53 of my characters to get their rested xp restarted so maybe i am still a little bit obsessive i don t mean to give the impression that i m not looking forward to this expansion i very much am i like what they ve done with the various functional and class changes and i m looking forward to continuing the story and we ll be back to regular leveling updates after things launch very soon i m interested to see if anything changes about optimal leveling approaches for the new expansion i d love it if playing the main story quests was enough to get blogthis share to x share to facebook share to pinterest monday february 9 2026 when the game becomes the habit i ve been getting up early to play video games not because there s some raid that needs running or some event i can t miss not because i m deeply invested in the story or desperately want to see what happens next i get up early to play because that s what i do it s the routine it s been the routine for years but lately i ve been asking myself a question i m not sure i want to answer does this still make sense how it changed i ve been gaming for over forty years it started as something i genuinely loved a hobby that was mine before i had kids before the career consumed everything before life got complicated i wasn t chasing connection or trying to fill a gap i just enjoyed it but then my son got into gaming and suddenly it became something more when he and his mother moved five hundred miles away gaming became our bridge we couldn t be in the same room couldn t throw a ball in the backyard or go to a movie together but we could log into the same world run the same dungeons talk about the same games it gave us shared language when distance made everything else harder it kept us connected when i couldn t just drive across town to see him that mattered for years it really mattered now my son is almost thirty himself he has a family a career responsibilities that don t leave much room for twelve hour gaming sessions he moved on the thing that helped keep us connected isn t what keeps us connected anymore we talk about other things now real things life things but i m still logging in the sunk cost of virtual worlds world of warcraft has been part of my life for two decades twenty years of characters achievements gear progress guilds i ve been part of content i ve cleared expansions i ve played through from launch day the muscle memory of keybinds i ve used for so long i don t even think about them anymore walking away from that feels impossible not because the game is that good necessarily but because of everything i ve put into it the time the effort the identity i built around being someone who plays this game that s a sunk cost and i know it i know the rational move is to evaluate whether the game still adds value to my life now not whether it justified the investment i made years ago but knowing something intellectually and feeling it emotionally are different things what i m trading a couple hours every morning while the rest of the house is still asleep time i could spend reading books i actually want to read writing more consistently planning what comes next now that the career structure is gone or just sleeping which at my age would probably be the smarter move instead i m doing world quests and delves leveling alts and running the same content i ve run dozens of times chasing gear upgrades that will be obsolete in the next patch i m maintaining progress in a game that resets its goalposts every few months it s not that the games are bad some of them are genuinely good well designed engaging worth the time if ...
